| Keep in mind that Super Smash Brothers Brawl was announced at E3 2005 and released in March 2008. However, New Super Mario Bros 2 got announced and was released a few months later. Any ideas? I just want to play Animal Crossing Last edited by whillywhack; 12-10-2012 at 04:36 AM. |

I actually prefer Nintendo announcing the games because it gives me hopes and dreams about how the games will be, it gets me hyped and I dont care when it will be realeased I only care to see it will release someday...

They just made all those big 3DS announcements to create a huge concentration of hype among us the nintendo fans and make a priority to buy a 3DS at launch seeing how it promised a great quality catalog even before knowing the release of the console itself. I bought a 3DS near launch just because I saw the Paper Mario, Layton vs Phoenix and Animal Crossing trailers in 2010.

hype and mainline 2D, 3D and sports Mario sells better than most of their other series so of course they would work on these first and finish them early /thread Last edited by BMO; 12-10-2012 at 04:41 AM. |

| Well, the COD franchise is a really different case considering the public it is aiming at. Actually I kind of like this big gap nintendo is currently having with their best franchises. It makes the games get remembered across the times and not just be the version 1.045 game of the same thing every year.

I prefer when they do that actually. Look at the Wii U. They said they only wanted to announce games from the launch window, and what happens is if you have no clue what the future holds, then if you wanted to buy the system, you'd be going in blind. People don't buy a system for the launch window games, they buy them for the early games and the later games. Same thing happened with the Vita. In fact with the Vita I still don't know what the future holds and it's been a year. With the 3DS, you knew what you were gonna get for sure. Not like "yeah we'll make a Call of Duty" or "we'll make a Bioshock" and then you realize development hadn't started on either of those games, the former turned out to be rushed in 6 months and the latter, the series director himself isn't even sure the game is going to be made. Nintendo may be announcing games early, but apart from Smash Bros. (which Sakurai thought they announced too early as well), they had footage to show you. You knew the games were fully in development and you knew what they were going to look like. I do think they've taken too long though. Kid Icarus was supposed to be released earlier, but it was delayed. For the longest time we had no release date for Luigi's Mansion, then it was announced as a holiday 2012 game, then it was delayed. Animal Crossing should have released this holiday worldwide in my opinion. I know there's a ****-ton of translation to do for localization, but now there's a gaping hole in the Western holiday line up (which triggered sales to be significantly down from last year). So I don't think the games were announced too early, I think they were announced at the right time, but I think the games released later than they had planned. |

as annoying as the wait and constant delays for games are, i find that generally Nintendo have higher quality control than a lot of devs who put out games with bugs. i think because patches are becoming standard nowadays, companies think they can get away with cutting a few corners for shorter development times. (having said that, i've crashed my 3DS twice in the home menu despite recent updates. tut tut!) it's also worth mentioning that Ninty usually have to develop their own game engines in-house from scratch. it's not their style to just pay a fee for the Unreal 3 engine or something.

Nintendo announces too early? The Last Guardian, next game from Shadow of the Colossus' director, Fumito Ueda was announced at E3 09 and no release date.

2-3 years is fine as long as they don't pull a Square and make us wait 7 yrs almost for a certain game which nobody knows when it is coming out. You all know what I'm talking about.
