I know that Paper Mario had an excuse. Miyamoto basically had the development team for that game start from scratch again.

Quite simply, they want future consumers to know that there are more awesome games coming out for the 3DS. So far, this strategy has been working.

Obviously it is because they want to create hype around the console's game library. If they don't announce any games there won't be anyone buying the console either. And honestly, how many years did people wait for Diablo 3? 9 years in production and all Acti-Blizz came out with was a big steaming pile of crap that repeats itself after a couple of hours. Seriously, anyone playing D3 after this long time should be ashamed of supporting Acti-Blizz for that game. But I digress; it's good for everyone that Nintendo announces it early. It creates hype and excitement. The only negative thing about it is the wait. It's a long wait but I am sure it will be worth it once Animal Crossing comes out! I didn't know of it until last month that it was coming out, that's why I bought a 3DS in the first place xD So for me, the wait won't be long.

I prefer to hear about an upcoming game a year or two before it's "supposed" to be released. Even though that does cause longer wait times, I don't like having a new game announced two months before it's released. In my opinion, I think it's much nicer to be able to plan ahead and know what you're going to be spending your money on in the near-ish future. I try to buy a new personal planner each year that I use to write down the names of any upcoming video games so I know how many games I'll be buying each month by taking a quick glance at that month's page.

Plus, as everybody else has already said, Nintendo could've announced a lot of their games earlier than they probably would've in order to build hype and trying to pull more attention to their 3DS. Consumers tend to need a push before finally making an investment and announcing games earlier could hype more people up for the future of the console and be more willing to spend their money.

Honestly, I decided to finally buy my original 3DS about five or six months ago when I heard about Luigi's Mansion and Paper Mario, both of which didn't even have a planned release date at the time. I fell in love with my 3DS by the time I started to play it and I've been able to buy a handful of games by now, while even upgrading to an XL last month. If I didn't hear about Paper Mario or Luigi's Mansion, I still probably would've been waiting for a solid reason to buy my 3DS.

They probably announce the games early so fans can get hyped to buy them.

Well, lemme put it this way.

Would you rather have a game announced early so you know what to expect, or have them pull a Sega Saturn release on you?

I think what this person means is why announce the games so early. For example, back in E3 2010, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart 7, Resident Evil, Mario 3D Land, and others were supposed to come out as launch window titles or at least in 2011. Of course, some of these did in fact meet the deadline. However, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, Resident Evil, and Luigi's Mansion, and Kid Icarus took much longer or is taking much longer. So, in the end, what I think this person is trying to say why doe Nintendo bother announcing these games if they are to be constantly delayed. I think this person is saying the announcements should be as swift as New Super Mario Bros. 2. That way, we can still know what's coming, but we will not have to wait 2 or 3 years.

Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion 2, Resident Evil and Animal Crossing were announced for 2011?
