Question 3DS not charging! eek!

Ok so I dutifully put my 3DS in it's charging cradle whenever I'm not using it. So last night I put it in it's cradle just before I went to sleep and it had only 1 bar of battery gone, the orange light went on so I know I put it in properly and it was receiving power. This morning I wake up the orange light is still on and the 1 bar of battery is still missing. eek!
So now I've turned it off and connected the charging cable directly to the 3DS, lets hope that makes a difference...
Also a question, if it happens that I have to get mine replaced will I still be able to keep my saved games, in other words are the games saved on the internal memory or on the SD card where I can just transfer it to a new card?
Also anyone else with this problem or maybe a solution? I've grown quite attached to this 3DS and would prefer not to have to replace it...
Thanx!

Don't get it replaced, get it fixed by Nintendo. It's free since the system is new and you won't lose any memory.

I live in South Africa so getting it fixed might mean sending it away, then I sit withou a 3DS for like 6 weeks, not cool

Did you tried checking the wire of the charger Nintendo 3DS, it may be that the wire which is present on the charger must have pulled due to which the wire that re present inside the charger must have come out, so because of that the charger must have not responding, just try with some other charger if it is present with your friend or just go to the nearest shop and see by connecting the new charger it and check if it is getting charged or not, if it is getting charged then the fault is in the charger of yours.

Unfortunately the only way I can check whether it is actually charging is by having it plugged in for quite a while and see whether the orange light goes off, everything on the 3DS says it's charging, little plug on the bottom screen orange light goes on. The battery is just not getting fuller

Added after 2 Hours 39 minutes:

Ok fixed!!
Drained the battery completely then let it charge, now its working.
It's kinda like I needed tpo reboot the battery, weird

Default A rubber band.

A rubber band might help solve the problem, just find a rubber band (not the tight ones), wrap it around the front of the 3DS and around the back part of the charging cradle. Here's some pictures to help explain what I said. It should work!
