Nintendo has confirmed their next console is going to be revealed at E3 2011 but does anyone think Sony and Microsoft will reveal their next consoles?
I think no, but I'd like to hear what other people think. |

X-Box needs to catch up and surpass the PS3 so they need to release sooner (more than likely) unless they are waiting to see the competition blink first. I think eventually everything goes glasses free 3d as long as they can get rid of the field of view problem. Until that happens there will be no other new systems than handheld (Microsoft needs a dedicated gaming handheld), and the WII 2. Nintendo has to release a new WII because they underestimated the effect hd would have on the market with their first system. I remember Nintendo saying something about they thought HD TVs would be a passing fad or would not catch on to the average household. That was an oops on Nintendo that they have to correct. The system wars sure are interesting though aren't they. I can't wait to see the WII 2. |

You know, maybe Microsoft may make some feeler mentions at E-3. Statements eluding to a new system without really saying a new system. Maybe a statement that just creates news and gets us talking. The more people talk about Microsoft the more money they make. So why not?
They may even talk about how they have developed technology tougher to hack eluding to the PS3 debacle. |

I am guessing they will both be shown e3 2012 and we will get them early 2013 or holiday season 2012. Just my guess |

LOL did it? Nintendo have a hard road ahead to get a lot of sales for the wii2 due to people being broke now and buying the wii during the good times, ie: 2006 to 2009, people are broke now. Sony has at least 5 years left in the PS3 MS has at least 2/3 years left in the X360, but will prob announce something at next years e3, maybe a handheld and then new home system the year after, 2013. Bottom line, even the non-partisan CBO puts the recession maybe reducing by 2014, but that's really just guess work. The recession hasn't ended, we just aren't getting much worse right now. When the recession starts to end you will see more confidence in stocks, gold will go down in price (right it keeps going up), housing will be much better and the Government would stop ordering money like candy to chidden. Little economics lesson there, sorry. I digress. Given all that in which I said above (and trust me I could write pages on the subject, I won't), I'm guessing if Microsoft releases another X-Box or Playstation releases another Playstation, it will be at least 2013-14 for X-Box, and 2015 for Playstaion. But that will also depend on the success of the WII 2. Companies make moves in the form of new products a lot of times in response to competition. And if the Microsoft or Sony releases anytime before, you will probably see their major add efforts in other countries other than the US. The US will buy the systems but they have a better chance of increased profit in other countries. Just my two cents. Finance used to be my job, and in my own investments still kind of is. |

Sony will not announce another console when they have done no promotion and little marketing on their NGP yet. We got a reveal and some ports running on it back in January. Do you really think they would be stupid enough to take the limelight off the NGP with another new system?
Microsoft - it's possible. With Project Caf?, 3DS and NGP being the stars of the show. They will need to pull something out of the hat whether thats a console or not I'm not sure of. |

While I hope the new consoles are released about at the same time ,so the next nintendo home console wont be to far behind in graphics because if they come out 2 years or so after the release of cafe the graphical difference may be high, than again graphical differences now days are harder to tell than it was years ago.

Nope. The 360 and PS3 both just released brand new controllers. Graphically, they both still look pretty good, and it's becoming more and more obvious that graphics alone won't be the focus on consoles going forward. Because the PS3 and 360 are easily upgraded with new hardware, I doubt we'll see their successors for another couple of years. Announcement in 2012 with release in 2013 at the earliest.
We won't see an upgrade until the internal hardware of the consoles begin to hamper innovation, as was happening with the wii. |

Now when more systems come out with more disc space (I'll bet they use Blu-ray which Sony owns) then I'm sure Playstation will release restriction and developers will develop bigger games for all systems, yea. This is why PLaystation will release their next system last in the console wars and this is because the Playstation dose'nt need an update until other systems catch up. That's why most people on this thread have said PS3 would be last, Nintendo first (finally moving in the HD world), Microsoft next (they will have a bigger and better system but probably also use Blu-ray), then Sony will match and beat the previous systems and again we have the console war saga part three. (veiled Star Wars reference there, sorry). |

Sony and Microsoft "just" released Kinect and Move, and sales are now growing for both companies, so there's no reason to release a new console in 2012/2013. And back in 2006 Sony stated that the PS3 will last for a decade (that's ten years btw...) Microsoft just started hiring people for the position "defining and delivering next generation console architectures", so I wouldn't expect a new console from either companies until 2015 at the earliest.

@Wix you are mistaking it's life cycle with how long until the next console. The PS2's life cycle isn't over yet just to help you figure out what they mean. If you can't then read below.
The 10 year life cycle is how long they will support it. So games may still come to it 10 years after it is released and production for the console may still continue 10 years after it's introduction. It's more of a goal than a Garantee I think. Both the PS1 and the PS2 made this as well. In fact the PS2 is either on year 11 or year 12 I think. |

I wouldn't bet a release date earlier than 2013 though, so we do still have some time. Last edited by raney150; 06-04-2011 at 05:05 PM. |

Microsoft obviously didn't announce anything. They seem to be dragging this generation out very long..... and quite dry after watching their press conference. I'm very excited for Mass Effect 3, and yes even Halo 4 and the Combat Evolved remake. Though I have a feeling Sony is going hit Microsoft pretty hard in a moment from now. A new console, probably not, but games yes. Tomorrow Nintendo will put them both in their place. XD
