Default Heroes of Ruin |OT| Friendship is Magic!

LAST UPDATED 8/12

===================
GENERAL INFORMATION
===================

=========
GAMEPLAY
=========
OVERVIEW

"Heroes of Ruin combines elements from action adventure and action RPG games. It takes inspiration from a wide range of games, including Western and Japanese adventure games, but it also brings its own take on the genre.

The combat is all done in real-time so you don't wait for your turn to attack. The combat experience will also be different if the player decides to play alone or with other heroes. There is a wide range of enemies and they attack with several different behaviors which include ranged attacking from snipers, unblockable attacks from hulking beasts, and evasive and fencing attack behaviors. This keeps the combat interesting and varied."
--George Wright

CONTROLS

"The game controls are simple, the A button does a basic attack, which can be strung out to perform combos. The X, Y, and B buttons do special moves that can be upgraded as your character levels up. For my Vindicator I had a dash attack, an area attack, and Shockwave attack that sent an expanding cone of damage out from my sword. The right shoulder button triggers a dodge move or, if held down, blocks. Pushing the d-pad left or right replenishes health and energy for pulling off more specials."--IGN

LOOT

"We?ve got over 20,000 weapons per class, we?ve got a tremendous amount of content," said Tim Schwalk, producer at n-Space, when we were talking about Heroes of Ruin. Earlier in the conversation we discussed the game?s character design. Now we switched topics to gameplay and specifically Heroes of Ruin?s loot system.

Being a dungeon crawler, equipping your character with new gear is a core element of Heroes of Ruin. You don?t have to go through menus to do this. If you see loot on the ground you can equip it by pressing up on the D-pad. Weapons are class specific. After all, the bullish Vindicator isn?t going to pick up a rifle made for the Gunslinger.

"20,000? weapons per class," I said wondering how n-Space created so many arms. 80,000+ weapons are a lot to collect.

"We have a really cool randomization system," Schwalk elaborated. "As loot is dropped, based on a lot of different factors, it?ll actually configure them and put them all together. It?s similar to sort of what Borderlands did, you?ll see some similar things, but a lot of cool really different things."

With so many weapons. you probably won?t see every item in Heroes of Ruin. The game automatically creates a StreetPass shop, which you can access in the middle of the Nexus, the game?s hub world. When you pass another player in a mall, coffee shop or Heroes of Ruin party your loot populates another player?s trader?s network. This will give them a chance to buy gear you found and vice-versa." --Siliconera

In addition, there will be around 100,000 pieces of armor.

CHARACTER CLASSES
  • Alchitect
    • A student from a distant academy and aims to become the greatest spell caster in the world.
  • Gunslinger
    • A former criminal turned wanderer, the Gunslinger?s every action is overshadowed by a massive monetary debt he must repay. He seeks riches, wields pistols, hurls bombs and is an evasive fighter.
    • The Gunslinger excels at ranged combat. He has ways to ensure range is kept, and ways to regain it when lost. He is fast, accurate, and deadly, using a wide array of ranged weapons. He excels at the use of all firearms but also brings to bear explosive incendiaries and other handy tools to eliminate his foes.
  • Vindicator
    • He travels the world to find a way to redeem himself from shame after his he fell from grace from his order.
    • Uses a sword.
  • Savage
    • He was exiled from his tribe and is looking for a way to gain power and glory.
    • Relies on brute force.
========
FEATURES
========
  • Drop-In/Drop-Out Co-op gameplay featuring voice chat via the 3DS microphone
  • Varied and Dynamic Environments: New routes and layouts each time you play.
  • Friendship System: Playing with the same players will build your "Friendship," which will allow your characters to obtain special bonuses.
  • SpotPass Connectivity:
    • Heroes of Ruin will send daily challenges to players which they can choose to complete. These will reward the players with special in-game items and extra gameplay.
    • The community site ties in directly with the challenges sent through SpotPass. The player can keep track of their challenge progress on the website. There are also challenges unique to the website which will level up the player's website profile.
  • StreetPass Connectivity: Items that the player has sold to their Traders Network shop will be made available to every player they pass who has the game. The player gets special points which scale with the rarity of the item. Accumulation of these points will grant access to special items in the shop like legendary weapons. Therefore if you get an item for another class that is of high level you can benefit from it by selling it in the Traders Network!

======
STORY
======
"War raged for over a hundred years until strong, powerful Lords emerged from the fighting to bring a fragile peace to the land. This peace is threatened when one of the Lords, Ataraxis, ruler of the city of Nexus, is taken ill by a deadly curse. A call is sent out, promising rewards beyond measure for anyone who finds a cure.

Four mercenaries, each with their own strengths, weaknesses and motivations answer the call. One uses forbidden spells to rain death on her foes, one has guns and bombs to blast his way through, another has a mighty sword capable of slicing through entire packs of enemies, and one other gains strength from savagely tearing through anything that stands in his way with brutal, bladed fists."--Official Site

What type of game will it be? judging by titles and characters it looks like some DotA/LoL/HoN type.

This looks strangely Western for Squenix. Hm, could be interesting to see how this turns out.

EDIT: ohhhh, it's n-space. That makes more sense.

It appears as if this announcement was a bit premature. The developer (n-space) has taken it off of their facebook page. Probably won't hear another peep until E3.

If N-Space is working on this, then does that mean CoD:MW3 3D will be worked on by someone else? :/

Well this is one of the three games they have been working on, so I think CoD is very likely one of the others.

If I had to guess, I would say this game would be an action RPG like Ultimate Alliance.

It would be awesome if we could team up with people over the internet and play the game co-op in 4 person (or more) parties.

I would also like to have complete character customization (race, class, etc.) but this isn't as important to me as online co-op.

I'm expecting good things at E3. LOL

It looks a lot better than generic anime characters in my opinion LOL.

And besides n-space is developing this game, so it wont interfere with your precious KH3D.

Okay so this is one of the three games, I'm going to guess the other two are Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and Geist 2 or Goldeneye 007 Wii port.

Updated the OP with additional details:

UPDATE:

Apparently this month's Nintendo Power has a lot more info about the game.

I actually posted this art today thinking that this was a part of the big reveal of Heroes of Ruin, a game resulting from the collaboration of Square Enix and n-Space. n-Space announced the game through their Facebook page. Shortly after announcing it, n-Space deleted the post but the damage was done. Turns out that Nintendo Power actually had the big reveal all along, on page 13 to be specific. And it gets better – Nintendo Power published details that weren’t given on the Facebook page.

The quick description of the game in Nintendo Power actually gives us a lot of interesting information about the game. As suggested by the concept art, Heroes of Ruin is a four-player game. The four characters in Heroes of Ruin are mercenaries. Depending on the character you choose, you will be able to customize his or her weapon, armor, and class abilities. These will be earned by completing parts of the main game.

You may be thinking that this all sounds dandy, but it’s almost impossible to get four friends together at the same time, in the same place that all have 3DS systems. Don’t worry, you won’t have to round up three friends to play this game cooperatively. n-Space is boasting one of the most impressive online offerings for the 3DS to date by offering drop-in/drop-out co-op gameplay and voice chat through the 3DS’s built in microphone. I can’t think of another game that offers voice chat on the 3DS, so this is very exciting for that platform. Heroes of Ruin’s online functionality doesn’t stop there, however. The 3DS’s SpotPass feature will be used to offer players DLC. Nintendo Power specifically lists daily challenges as an example of the type of content you can expect.

The game is sounding like quite an ambitious handheld game, and I’m hoping n-Space hits it out of the park at E3 (where this game will presumably be shown). Nintendo Power teases us by saying they will have more information in the next issue but something tells me we will be hearing about this game very soon.

Awesome, this is sounding pretty good, it's also good to see co-op with voice chat; it's a shame that RE Mercs isn't going to have it but it's good to see n-Space taking things to the next level.

I respect your opinion on your dislike of the concept art (even though I disagree with you), but how can you consider this nerdy and not Kingdom Hearts?

Like I mentioned earlier, Kingdom Hearts is being done by a different developer so this game won't interfere with its progress at all.

I know why they removed it, I recently was in contact with N-Space, and they told me they were very busy with preparing for E3. I think this game was meant to be revealed at E3.

also yeah, this is looking pretty sweet. n-Space has done some nice online stuff on Nintendo hardware in the past, and this seems to be no exception. If only Nintendo would put a little effort in themselves :/

Bugys on lion guy or ninja dude with machine gun! anyways, I think the DLc will be new classes or gear and stuff I mean a game with internet capabilities wont have the four same classes or characters for an entire game. Either way it looks like a great game, but now I'm lost, wait about an entire year or less for this to be released or get Ocarina of Time? God Damnit! So many games have been released balancing out my decisions and theres always one!

As it stands right now, I'm leaning towards using the Half-Orc Brawler guy, based purely on the concept art. Though the Human rogue with the gatling-gun pistol looks cool too. LOL

i think the concept art looks cool, pretty western as Baroque said, actually im done with anime-ish looking games, besides, it's a new franchise, wich is always welcome in a world of remakes and ports and iterations that repeat over and over endlessly (*coughpok?cough*) we'll have to wait and see at e3, but so far it sounds promosing and may get to my must-have list of games

??? So... a Marvel character is in this game?

Or was the concept art done by the same guy who draws The Hood?

I updated the OP with new information and pictures:

UPDATE (5/31):

We now have the first batch of screen shots plus some more info:

Official site: Heroes of Ruin

Here is an interview with IGN:

Quote:
IGN: Thank you very much for corresponding with us! Please introduce yourself and your role on the Heroes of Ruin project.

George Wright: Hello and thank you. My name is George Wright and I'm the Square Enix Producer on Heroes of Ruin.

IGN: Why did your team decide to develop a game for the Nintendo 3DS?

George Wright:The 3DS is a great new console. We were excited to make a game specifically for it that makes use of its great connectivity and social features.

IGN: How long has Heroes of Ruin been in development?

George Wright: About 6 months so far.

IGN: Would you say Heroes of Ruin has been inspired by Japanese role-playing games, or western role-playing games? Or perhaps something else?

George Wright: Heroes of Ruin combines elements from action adventure and action RPG games. It takes inspiration from a wide range of games, including Western and Japanese adventure games, but it also brings its own take on the genre.

IGN: Tell us about the story.

George Wright: Four mercenaries, each with their own strengths, weaknesses and motivations, answer a call to find a cure for the dying ruler of the city of Nexus. These unlikely heroes can choose to create a fearsome alliance or venture forth from the city alone. Beyond the safety of the city the land is filled with strange and dangerous creatures, but none as deadly as the evil force behind the curse, which the heroes must eventually confront and destroy.

IGN: The announcement doesn't mention much about the battle system. How, specifically, does it work?

George Wright: The combat is all done in real-time so you don't wait for your turn to attack. The combat experience will also be different if the player decides to play alone or with other heroes. There is a wide range of enemies and they attack with several different behaviors which include ranged attacking from snipers, unblockable attacks from hulking beasts, and evasive and fencing attack behaviors. This keeps the combat interesting and varied.

IGN: Can you describe to us how the SpotPass connectivity works?

George Wright: Your 3DS will connect to SpotPass whenever you are within reach of an open WiFi connection. In Heroes of Ruin we will send daily challenges to players which they can choose to complete. These will reward the players with special in-game items and extra gameplay.

IGN: Tell us about this "Traders Network." How does it use StreetPass and what will it do for players?

George Wright: Items that the player has sold to their Traders Network shop will be made available to every player they pass who has the game. The player gets special points which scale with the rarity of the item. Accumulation of these points will grant access to special items in the shop like legendary weapons. Therefore if you get an item for another class that is of high level you can benefit from it by selling it in the Traders Network!

IGN: How will the community site play into the user experience? What can we expect out of it?

George Wright: The community site ties in directly with the challenges sent through SpotPass. The player can keep track of their challenge progress on the website. There are also challenges unique to the website which will level up the player's website profile.

IGN: Tell us one thing that will convince us to run out right now and pre-order this game!

George Wright: Fun drop in/drop out co-op campaign against over 200 enemies in 3D!

The screen shot don't blow me away, and remind me of a free2play mmorpg, but that isn't a horrible thing considering the online play seems REALLY promising. Another game to add to my list of games to look out for, for sure.

The style looks a lot like Torchlight to me.

Anyways, the thought of a handheld loot-based dungeon crawler with an emphasis on the social aspect is really promising. So far so good.

That's official boxart for Heroes of Ruin (Facebook posted by N-Space)

Well, Logitech... Are you able to change the title to "Official Heroes of Ruin Discussion"?

Nice find. I can't seem to locate it on the Facebook page right now. They must have taken it down. Once it gets reposted I'll add it.

I VMed Baroque to ask him to change the title to make it more clear that this is the official thread for Heroes of Ruin.

If that helps. Keep up good work in your OT.

Do you think it's more like Mini-WoW, Diablo or Champions of Narroth?

We will have to see if we can mix-and-match classes and races. It appears, as of now, that we can pick 1 of 4 predetermined characters, making it more like Champions.

That is purely speculation however. Once E3 hits, I'm sure will get a lot more info on gameplay mechanics.

The new single screenshot makes me think that there are multiple cat types in the game. I think we've seen a panther, a lion, and now a cheetah.

If this game gets customizable stuff, you might as well consider it sold.

Which it most likely will, the people in the screenshots look different from the cover art.

With the way the online is set-up, and the fact that so many people only have that small pool of 4 characters to pick from, I believe customization is all but guaranteed.

Weird. In this Kotaku article they describe Heroes of Ruin as a "strategy rpg". I was hoping it would be an action rpg in the vein of Diablo and Torchlight.

This game is almost certainly an action RPG. Kotaku got it wrong, something they do quite often.

Kotaku makes more factual errors than almost any other gaming site I've seen.

Yeah. I've noticed numerous typos in various Kotaku articles. So I guess it's not surprising that they also make factual errors too.

Oh man this game looks awesome! Reminds me when I played Untold Legends on the PSP. I just hope this game has internet/WiFi play or the voice chat is useless. Speaking of which, that's awesome! Finally I hear of a game that you can chat in on a DS! I see the 3DS making big smiles in the near future.

UPDATE 6/8:

Some new info coming from IGN's impressions:

CHARACTER CLASSES

Four character classes, each with their own abilities. Characters' appearance will be able to be customized by the player.

I'm definitely in for this one. I love Diablo-style dungeon crawling hack-and-slash frantic mouse clicking/button mashing random loot fests. They keep me addicted for hours and hours at a time. Diablo II is my favorite game of all time. So many hours wasted...

Kinda wish there was more classes... but oh well, its a day-one buy for me if things continue to look up.

UPDATE 6/28:

The official website is now up: Heroes of Ruin - Welcome

Register for a chance to win a free Heroes of Ruin 3DS!

Also, I edited the story section of the OP:

UPDATE 7/1

I added the loot section and a game play video, and a few informative links:

LOOT

"We’ve got over 20,000 weapons per class, we’ve got a tremendous amount of content," said Tim Schwalk, producer at n-Space, when we were talking about Heroes of Ruin. Earlier in the conversation we discussed the game’s character design. Now we switched topics to gameplay and specifically Heroes of Ruin’s loot system.

Being a dungeon crawler, equipping your character with new gear is a core element of Heroes of Ruin. You don’t have to go through menus to do this. If you see loot on the ground you can equip it by pressing up on the D-pad. Weapons are class specific. After all, the bullish Vindicator isn’t going to pick up a rifle made for the Gunslinger.

"20,000… weapons per class," I said wondering how n-Space created so many arms. 80,000+ weapons are a lot to collect.

"We have a really cool randomization system," Schwalk elaborated. "As loot is dropped, based on a lot of different factors, it’ll actually configure them and put them all together. It’s similar to sort of what Borderlands did, you’ll see some similar things, but a lot of cool really different things."

With so many weapons. you probably won’t see every item in Heroes of Ruin. The game automatically creates a StreetPass shop, which you can access in the middle of the Nexus, the game’s hub world. When you pass another player in a mall, coffee shop or Heroes of Ruin party your loot populates another player’s trader’s network. This will give them a chance to buy gear you found and vice-versa." --Siliconera

In addition, there will be around 100,000 pieces of armor.

UPDATE 8/3

New Preview: Heroes of Ruin at C3 Previews

It's long, but pretty informative:

Quote:

Being from n-Space, a company that I have quite the soft spot for, when I spied the solitary 3DS unit featuring the game at Nintendo’s recent 3DS event in London, there was definitely no chance of missing the opportunity to try it out. Upon jumping onto the system, though, magically Alastair Cornish from Square Enix appeared, almost out of thin air! Square Enix is apparently so eager to show everyone how impressive Heroes of Ruin really is that it went as far as being the only company to have not only a truly delectable representative on-hand to field any general questions (a mysterious person who shall remain nameless), but a member of the development team as well (Alastair).

Alastair was there to guide people through one of the early missions, in a two-player wireless mode, where once one of the heroes of ruin had been selected and customised in a fashion of your own choice, various different objectives had to be completed whilst en-route to an encounter with the Spirit of Michedele, which had to ultimately be despatched. This involved having to trek across a fantasy world laden with vicious spiders, fire-breathing beasts, plenty of treacherous underground paraphernalia, and eerie aspects such as piles of skulls and bones to help set the dark tone, all in an effort to locate the spirit. This meant also having to deactivate a force-field by taking part in a puzzle element where hitting targets toggled certain others on or off with the aim to turn them all off, and eventually take part in a fight against a tree inhabited by Michedele (called the Spellbound Treant in the demo), attempting to find its weak spot and striking the decisive blow for victory.

To ensure players are sucked into Heroes of Ruin right from the start, the fantasy tale spun is one of war that has raged for over a hundred years, but ceased when powerful Lords instilled such fear into all and sundry that it brought a tentative peace to the land. Unfortunately, this tenuous treaty has been threatened as Ataraxis, one of the Lords and ruler of Nexus, has become stricken with a deadly curse. Should his position become weakened, war could indeed break out once more. Therefore, a call to arms is made, with a reward for whoever can find the cure, which is where Heroes of Ruin’s four lead characters step in.

The top-down viewpoint used during the entirety of Heroes of Ruin showed off some strong visuals that illustrated both the power of the 3DS and expertise of the development team, with no slowdown creeping in, no matter how many enemies started bombarding the group of warriors. At the time of this demo trial, the level of 3D depth was not quite as strong or effective as expected, yet playing in an event environment was not exactly conducive to the sort of relaxing experience you would have playing such a game at home or on the road, so perhaps the effect will impress more in the final build.

Control throughout was via the highly accurate Circle Pad, although potions, weapons and items could be used quickly via the Directional Pad and use of the touch-screen, with special moves mapped to the face buttons (including a handy ‘healing circle’ move). Everything has been streamlined to be as accessible as possible, without interrupting the flow of the adventure due to clunky menu options. Handling of each character was simple and pleasant enough, with triple-tap attacks triggering combination moves to destroy enemies quickly, shoulder barges to catch monsters off-guard, and a defensive pose to prevent certain attacks from causing damage. Keeping an eye out for enemies turning red was also key since it meant they could not be hurt for a short time, and attacking whilst in that state left your own character vulnerable to counter-attack.

Rather than have a massive on-screen arrow obliterating most of the player’s view, instead a handy map is located on the touch-screen to keep track of others that have wandered off. However, there was a slight drawback here because when a team member had wandered too far away, it became quite the chore to figure out what direction to head in, so the idea was proposed of an on-screen arrow only appearing if the team has gone a set distance away, limiting the directional hint to a distance-related trigger only. Considering the code that was played was still at the pre-alpha stage, it was mentioned that ideas for additions or changes were most welcomed.

As for the characters themselves, the two beast-like creatures, the male and female fighters are actually mercenaries, and dependent on who you choose there will be a wide selection of customisation for their weapons, armour and general class abilities, with major changes actually affecting their visual appearance, similar to how characters in Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies altered when equipping new apparel. There is a sword-wielding Vindicator out to redeem himself from shame brought upon him in the past, a Gunslinger who acts as an evasive fighter that uses pistols and bombs and is driven forward by his need to clear up heavy debt, a Savage exiled from his tribe that wishes to gain more power and glory, as well as an Alchitect from a distant academy that can cast magic and wants to become the world’s greatest spell caster. Each one has their own unique power that comes into use at varying times.

Equipment can be earned after missions have been completed, purchased, or picked up from fallen enemies on the field. An interesting aspect comes from selling goods, however, since items can be sold immediately after picking them up, yet keeping them in storage for longer and bartering at the right time can result in more money being accrued in the long-run. Additionally, there are plans to incorporate the buying and selling aspect into a StreetPass mode, called the Traders’ Network, whereby items you wish to buy or sell can be traded when passing others with Heroes of Ruin StreetPass data stored on their Nintendo 3DS system.

Despite being at such an early stage, though, it was clear that a lot of care and attention is going into the Heroes of Ruin project, along with plans of grandeur on the horizon. For instance, not only can three other players join the action at any time wirelessly, but they can also do so via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (giving a personal feel of Secret of Mana). One uncertainty at the moment is if this will be country- or region-specific, but hopefully Japanese, US, European, Australian gamers alike will be able to enjoy this sumptuous title together. There are two especially stunning features, the first being how the difficulty level automatically scales itself depending on how many characters are playing, which is a key point since some genre stable-mates fall foul of growing far too easy when three others jump in. Secondly, anyone playing as part of the online experience can simply pause their game without having a detrimental effect on either their character’s health (enemies simply ignore the paused character), or the balance for the others still playing (the difficulty adjusts temporarily).

For those thinking this is a mindless hack ‘n slash game, rather like X-Men Legends and X-Men Ultimate Alliance, Heroes of Ruin is finely balanced and even has role-playing elements mixed in, with the ability to tweak different aspects of the characters’ equipment (80,000 weapons spread across the four classes) and other statistics after certain amounts of enemies have been killed and experience gained. At specific points players will be able to attribute a set number of points to various areas of their combatants in order to tailor a character to whatever they desire. n-Space, on the other hand, seemingly prefers to label Heroes of Ruin as an action-adventure, although, personally, throwing the term ‘RPG’ into the mix is definitely not going to hurt, especially given the drop-in, drop-out multiplayer aspect personally seems reminiscent of the good old days of Secret of Mana.

Heroes of Ruin is all about attention to detail, and there is also the option of looking at fallen items briefly or with greater scrutiny, as when wandering around, slaying a plentiful supply of the 227 types of monsters, should something drop, simply wandering over will initially identify 1.) If it can be equipped by your character, 2.) Whether or not it improves your statistics; but if you wish to see intricate details, menus can be delved into for such a purpose. There is a randomisation engine incorporated into Heroes of Ruin for many parts of the adventure, even including the areas visited so that each experience feels fresh. After accepting a number of missions from people within the game’s hub world, the Nexus, it is a case of being thrown into a randomly generated environment, and sometimes Heroes of Ruin actually forces players to re-enter some areas, so each time it differ to prevent boredom kicking in.

Finally, it was mentioned that there is a ‘Friendship’ feature that is separated from the standard in-game character levelling system. Basically, Heroes of Ruin collates data related to who you generally play with, and a stronger bond forms the more you play alongside the same person, which can lead to eventual bonuses that will only be found by building up levels via the Friendship system. To put it frankly, n-Space and the team at Square Enix London are attempting to cover all possible aspects with Heroes of Ruin to make it the exemplar product on 3DS in 2012, and if anything has been overlooked, the crew are eager to have people join the official site and share feedback.

GAMEPLAY
=========

========
FEATURES
========

======
STORY
======

Thanks logi.
Can't believe the amount of weapons they are apparently adding. That would be some 80,000 weapons.
Hopefully it releases early 2012, can't wait.

Do we really need MLP in the thread title?

Seriously, this **** is getting annoying. I understand some people like it. Stop shoving it in everyone's faces.

Yes.

Anyway, I wasn't really interessed by the game at first, but after watching the trailer I think I might consider it. It does look quite interesting, and I do like the MMORPG feel of the game.

I'm actually not a MLP fan.

I changed the title as to draw attention to the "Friendship" system in the game. Once a new interesting piece of information comes out, I'll likely change the tagline to something more clever (and equally cheesy.)

Is this an MMO or more of an RPG that is online. If it is an MMO, I probally wouldn't get it but if it is the latter which it seems like it is then it looks awesome!

This is not completely related to HoR Game or Gameplay.
Err... I'll start anyway.

On this Friday, at Pax Prime so I'm going to there to try out all games then I heard (HoR is playable in Pax Prime) so It will be neat to give some of my opinion after my game day on Friday. I do hope the HoR game, and gameplay look fun and good enough to justify my purchase for it.

(I live in Seattle so it's neat to attempt Pax Prime every year)

Everything sounds promising, but I would like however for the game to sharpen its graphics a little bit, seems a little blocky.... just a little.... besides that (because graphics are not a big prioriety to me) but I will buy.

C'mon, those are two of the biggest features they've been announcing for the game. Strange you didn't know bout them.

I want this game. NOW. Everything about it sounds like fun.

One note to Nintendo: give these guys a bigger cartridge, because the textures seem to suffer from lowressiness and overcompression.

It really is sad because it seems to be very common in games......
I really want this game too, but I'm also hoping that MH 3G will have a similar online offering when it hits the 3DS overseas next year.

its a hack n`slash game, just like diablo and torchlight, so its not a strategy RPG, the makers also said in the interview they looked at the gameplay and stuff of other games like: diablo, torchlight and even borderlands cause of all the stuff they maked for every individual character. So its a action RPG, so dont worry Dark Spire, this is btw a must-have for me, and i definitely buy it.

Those screenshots made it an instant preorder on Amazon for me literally. I love Diablo type games and I hope i can afford a second 3ds for my fiancee by the time this drops. In fact a 3ds will be my anniversary gift for her and we will be all over this game.

A bit premature don't you think. The game isn't out for another four months or so.

I"m not very impressed with its graphics (even the frame rate looks unstable), but the feature set and gameplay are drawing me in.

Still feeling kinda mixed about the videos we have seen so far :/

The features sound awesome, so I really hope that the gameplay doesn't disappoint.

It would be nice if they jacked up the graphics a bit. People are complaining about the graphics in MGS3D...

If you ask me, this is one of the most promising 3DS games to be released.

It was under my radar for a long time, but I'm just now realizing the potential it offers online and how impressive the amount of content that's included. Looking forward to it the same way I'm looking forward to notorious titles like Resident Evil or Kid Icarus.

Hope to hear more details about it soon!

What did you guys think of the eShop video? I'd seen it before but this time or more convinced to buy it. It seems like a cool and simple RPG that has great online.

I think they've hinted at an eShop demo:

I'm really leaning towards no with the game. Not only do the graphics look overly simplistic (worse than iphone game), but it also suffers from framerate stutters. As much as it might check off a good many boxes (online, voice chat, etc.), I'm not sure it'll be worth the money.

Here's what I'm hoping for:

- Strong story and characters
- Voice acting in cut scenes and maybe even when talking to NPC's
- Online text chat, I'm uncomfortable with showing my voice online
- Super moves that can be used after filling some sort of rage bar or performing consistently well in combat
- 'Elemental Potions' which give a temporary elemental effect to your attacks. ie an Ice Potion which delivers a freezing/slowing effect to enemies, Fire Potion delivers a lingering and spreading fire effect to enemies, Electrical Potion which stuns and lowers enemy attack and defense etc

Well, pretty much all the demo and trailers have been reminding us that the game is still in development, plus the 3D eShop video was from last E3, so maybe the game has/will improve.

Added after 3 minutes:

These screen shots look pretty good...

Heroes of Ruin - Welcome

It is planned for release on April 3, 2012 in North America and sometime in Spring 2012 in Europe.

Co-op will most likely be with friends only. Text chat isn't really feasible for a game like this.

I'd be lying if I said I were comfortable with talking to people I don't know online but text chat just wouldn't work with a game like this especially on a handheld.

The trailer is making this game look zetta sexy. But yeah, there better be a way to turn off voice chat.

But that doesn't stop people from badmouthing others during raids in MMO's, does it? I suppose as long as you don't play like a noob, it won't be too bad.

NVM, that's the actual Europe date. For NA, it's April 3.
Nope, both are fake. Damn you, Wikipedia.

Yea, this is definitely a game I've been looking forward too.

This game looks like it may take advantage of some features of the 3ds that a lot of us have been waiting for.

Yep, I pre-ordered it and Kid Icarus.

I think Heroes of Ruin may "set the bar" for some things when it comes to multi player on the 3ds. I have high hopes for it and lets hope it delivers on everything we've heard.

I have a question for future reference. So I preordered HoR off of amazon, and say they ended up cancelling it, would I lose my money, or get it back, since it's pre-release?

Amazon doesn't charge you anything until the game ships. You won't lose any money. (If you paid for your pre-order with Amazon credit/gift card then it will just bounce back into your account after cancellation and the amount will become usable again.)

If you really hate it that much then just make your own custom box cover like I did with The Mercenaries 3D:

Hmm... June 30th ehh... That might be optimal. I'll have plenty of games to play until june. I should definitely be able to beat tales of graces and kid icarus by june... But darksiders 2 comes out in june as well. I really hope they don't come out the same day. Hopefully darksiders 2 comes out in the beginning of june so i can nolife it and have it beat before ruin comes out.

n-Space just shared a picture of Heroes of Ruin in the "available at retail" section in the eShop and they called it a "teaser". Hopefully this means they're announcing a release date soon.

I pre-ordered when I picked up Kid Icarus and Gamestop showed 7-1.

Anyway, I'm excited for this game as well. There are some more unique features in this game.

Great time to be a 3DS owner with all of these great games just released and all the great games upcoming!

This looks to be awesome. I can't make a WoW account due to reasons such as technological limitations, but this looks just like it!

Can Anyone tell me if you can play private games? Example: My friend and I wanna play a game with voice chat just us two, We don't want little 5 years olds screaming in the mic. Can we play a game with just us and like locked it so no one can join unless we like invite them? Also, You Don't need special Headphones to use mic do you? Just the 3DS mic itself?

Can you say anything With the 3DS mic? Example: I'm playing with someone online, Can I say "You watching the game on Saturday Night?" with the 3DS mic? Or do you need Headphones to say anything you want?

Yeah you can say anything.

Go into the music app and record yourself to get an idea of how intelligible youll sound/how loud youll need to speak with the built in app.

Less than a week to European release~ :3 I was hyper sceptical about this game before because it looked very generic, but the demo convinced me otherwise. Pretty graphics and solid gameplay with plenty of content, I've heard. Also online with voice chat is going to be fun (Although akward for me cause I'm not native english speaker.... Or maybe akward for everyone else xD).

Going to go get it on release day because I'm hungry for RPGs on 3DS.

Probably going to be a Vindicator because I like being close-range, AND I like being a healer. Yay :3

The demo has convinced me on this; definitely purchasing. I'm planning on using the Savage.

FYI, has anyone else considered the level cap? Based on the fact characters have 15 abilities each with (I think) four tiers per ability, I'd estimate a level cap of 60, which is pretty good.

Also I read on heroesofruin.com that the game will have online leaderboards, too. Like most time played, most gold spent and stuff like that. Cool :]

Yeah, the Alchitect looks like a guy to me too. Sorta looks like a dark elf. Can't wait to play as a Gunslinger! Some of those guns look really awesome.

I'm on debate on what class I should still give a go . I was hoping the gunslinger but now that it's only guns, I'm having my doubts and might just have to roll another class!

wow

Anyways...

When does the game release in EU and US? I want to know how many daily quests I'm going to miss out on. Although, are they really going to start on those straight away? If they really cared about all the people buying their game, they should wait a few days after it's released in all regions. Here's hoping.
