Question Is My 3DS the Only One That Does This? :T Or Is It Just My Charger?

Usually when i charge my 3DS, the charger light doesn't come on. It has to be at/on a certain angle, then it charges. That's why it doesn't charge properly. Does this happen to you or a friend?

Possiblities:
- It is not on the dock properly
- Your 3DS is already fully charged.
- Your charger might be cut or possibly chewed by rats maybe?
- LED might be busted.

do not wrap the wire around the charger like most people do, don't let little children play with it and don't expose it to dust. Also don't blow on the ports, liquid wrecks it

You're either putting it on the dock wrong or there is an issue with your 3DS/dock.

There's a little small button on the cradle that extends two metal rods that inject into your 3DS. The button is on the cradle.

If you don't lay your 3DS on that button when you put it on the cradle, it won't charge.

That's what's probably causing the problem.

It doesn't matter if the 3DS is already fully charged by the way. The moment you unplug it, it starts using battery power. Go ahead and try it; unplug a fully charged 3DS for just one second then plug it back in. You'll probably see the light on for a few seconds.

My 3DS died last night. So i had to charge it. It was on low battery power.
I don't have Rats in my house.
Maybe my LED light is busted.

First of all, i wasn't even charging my 3DS on the cradle. It doesn't have to charge on cradle. I've charged my 3DS many time successively without the cradle. -.-

Okay, here is what happened to your 3ds, which also happened to my 3ds, my dsi and my ds lite. Your connector on your 3ds is most likely bent which means that when you plug the charger in the charging elements are not connecting correctly. However, if you wiggle it to an angle it begins charging correctly.

My 4 year old son is the culprit of my bent 3ds and dsi charging prong. Now I just use the charging cradle.

For my dsi I had to order one of these bad boys from ebay:

Of course it does, it has to provide juice to keep the internal clock running. Its not MUCH juice, but its some. In case you didnt know WHY.

Well there is another problem that might be causing it that isn't related to your 3DS. Next to my bed there is an outlet that doesn't give out power for some reason so I have to use a different one. Maybe you should try using a different power outlet.

It probably is the the charging cord is damaged. Or, if you are using the charging dock, it may just be defective.

The wires in your cord are getting crystallized so the current only makes it all the way through if you have it in just the right position. To prevent this you should keep your cord as straight as possible and avoid bending it and of course untie any knots in it (which will ruin it quicker than anything else you may be doing) or you are going to need a new charger. The issue is not with the dock its with the cord so it does not matter whether you use that or not.

@Smil235: Are you still having the problem?
I just had a charging problem with mine and found something weird.
I had charged it successfully three or four times previously but today when I tried to charge it, the power LED kept flashing red and the charge LED stayed dark (so it didn't appear to realize it was plugged in).
I reversed the orientation of the AC adapter on the outlet / flipped it upside down. I don't know why this worked, but it worked. Since the plug isn't polarized you should be able to flip it around.
Another theory is that the unit was just taking its sweet time realizing it was plugged in for whatever reason... try leaving it plugged in for 20 mins or so to see if the charge LED eventually comes on.

i had this problem as well. but i solved it by elevating my 3ds to a position with a sponge so that the 2 points touches the charging point properly.

This has happened with my old laptop charger.

It means the wire has been worn out.

I'm just curious now that I see so many people saying not to bend or wind the charger cord.

How do you all store your chargers? Or how do you pack them when you want to go out with your 3DS?

I've always wound my cord around the body of the charger since I can remember having anything with a charger and I've never had one go faulty. The original charger for my first DS still works even.

I have had this problem too. However, my cord had been chewed on by a kitten. When I borrowed my brother's DSi charger, it worked fine. Perhaps your cord has been damaged somehow.

Also, the metal part of the charger (the part that plugs into the 3DS) might have bent, or the charger port in the system became lose. I have had it happen to three different laptops, so I don't believe it is an uncommon thing among electronics.

Either way, I think a new charger could fix the problem.

My 3DS had the same problem, I had to hold the charger in place, I eventually broke the charging port of my 3DS, I had to wait months before I had the opportunity to get a charging cradle. It turns out the thing inside the 3DS charging port is supposed to be bent down. My battery was also having problems at the same time however. The charger wasn't the problem with me, It worked just fine with another 3DS

Wait, the last post on this was over a year ago...
