Super Mario Sunshine certainly hasn't been forgotten. If you've noticed the things in more recent games, such as Mario Kart for the wii having Pianta's on the sidelines of some tracks and whatnot-
And the new Mario Tennis Open coming out for the 3DS features the Noki's, as stated on the Super Mario wiki, and also features the Piantas. Also, Luigi's Mansion is having a sequel, so who says Super Mario Sunshine could be next?! ![]() |
|
|||
![]()
Well, Nintendo has certainly not forgotten about Super Mario sunshine, what with some of the characters going to appear in Mario Tennis Open,
And hmm, I cant remember this persons name, but someone from Nintendo expressed that they'd like to remake it. P: come on??? P: |
|
||||
![]()
There's a lot of Nintendo employees who different games remade or ported.
However, Piantas and Nokis have appeared in many Mario games since their debut.

it's just you. :P
as much as i'd like a 3DS version of this, i don't see it happening, at least not sometime in the future. yes, piantas and nokis appear in other games, but that could just be them becoming staple characters in the Mario universe.

There was a Super Mario Sunshine stage on Brawl.
That must mean that they're going to remake the game for the Wii, with enhanced Wii controls! Maybe even release a special edition package that contains awesome Mario figurines, a Shine Sprite plushie, and even a book of Super Mario Sunshine stickers! |

Not many people liked Super Mario Sunshine because of its "gimmick." Also, Super Mario 64 DS was created so that people would buy a Nintendo DS on release. Besides, Nintendo doesn't really have a remake formula, for the most part. Would I love this if it happened? Yes. Will it? Not likely.

It's just you :P
I do wish for a sequel however and I refuse to give up hope! I loved the first one and spent ages playing it when I was in hospital visiting my brother (Yes I know I should have been talking and paying attention to him but that's how awesome it was).

I don't see it happening. The reason Luigi's Mansion is getting a sequel is because it was practically a new IP. Sunshine was just a sequel to the Mario series.
If anything I think we will see a new Metroid, Kirby, and Donkey Kong on the 3DS before a remake/sequel to Sunshine. |
|
|||

I beat Sunshine for the Gamecube years ago, I still go back to replay some levels occasionally, but it's not a game I want remade... I want a full-blown sequel! 8)
I loved the voice acted story, it seemed like a step up, I also liked the gameplay a lot. It doesn't even need a story, it could be like Super Mario Galaxy 2, basically all the ideas that the original didn't think of. |

I think a sequel would maybe be forced to do for Nintendo. Forcing themselves to come up with more ideas to use Fludd, use another vacation theme.. But it was a brilliant game so yeah, I don't know. They made a Galaxy 2 too, but that was only 3 years after the first one. It's almost 10 year since Sunshine, but seeing a Luigi's Mansion sequel make it seem more likely.
|
|
||||
![]()
Ugh... Can I vote for both?
I guess I'd end up voting for the Sequel, just because the Gamecube version was so great, and there really isn't anything to fix. And we would get a whole new story and more levels and stuff for a sequel, so the sequel wins in just about every way.

Since the 3DS and the Gamecube basically have the same graphics power I doubt it would be a remake. Probably would be a port. I would love a sequel to sunshine but it was unpopular for some reason so I doubt that they would do that.

Sunshine on the 3DS would be awesome but could it match up to the gamecube version? Probably not for me, I loved that game.

![]() ![]() In all honesty, Super Mario Sunshine has got to be my favorite Mario game of all time. It was definitely unique and supplied a ton of fun to play through on the Gamecube (released back in 2002). I just wanted to make a short post and see if anybody else had some input, perhaps? Here's an article I recently read and thought it'd fit well here. So, could this game work on the 3DS and would you like to see it happen? Super Mario 64 was remade for the DS and I have no doubt that the 3DS would be able to handle Super Mario Sunshine. Let me know what you think! |
|
||||
![]()
I know that it probably won't happen, but I was just wondering if everybody thought it'd physically be possible.
The only issues I could see would be the lack of a c-stick and z. I was thinking that the camera can be controlled with the touch screen (the camera never seemed like too much of an issue in that game, regardless). |
|
||||
![]()
Honestly, I'd be happy with a simple port (and some control reworkings, since there are two hardware-wise limitations). I played a bit of Sunshine not too long ago and the game definitely still looks beautiful, even 10 years later.

Oh, and I just remembered about the "spraying mechanics" that could be another easily-solved issue. When you hold R lightly while moving, you can spray while running but if you hold R completely down, Mario will stop and spray in place (without running). I was thinking that this could be solved by, if Mario is in motion when R is held, he will remain in motion: if he is still when R is held, he will simply stay stationary. Makes sense, no?

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one interested in some sort of Super Mario Sunshine release. I absolutely loved the original game for Gamecube and I would love to see a sequel.
I think it could be very possible, especially with all of the other sub-Mario games that have been releasing for the 3DS (referring to Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion, and even a new tennis entry). I mean, Luigi's Mansion is finally getting a sequel it deserved after this long, so I could definitely see Super Mario Sunshine getting something new. This would make me very happy. |

I would hope that Galaxy had better graphics, being on a more current console (and being about five years down the road). Obviously a Gamecube game released in 2002 wouldn't have better graphics than a Wii game released in 2007.
In all honesty, I certainly think Super Mario Sunshine has aged well and certainly doesn't look bad for a ten-year old game. Regardless, I'd much rather see a sequel than just a port for this game on the 3DS and it could be possible. They did make a sequel to Luigi's Mansion (released in 2001), which seemed to surprise a lot of people - I certainly never saw that coming! |

Luigi's Mansion 3D would be good. SMS 3D? I don't know dude...it'll be cool as a sequel though. I don't know.

By saying Luigi's Mansion 3D, do you mean a port of the original or are you referring to the new game? They're already making the sequel so I couldn't see them making a port of the original after that.
As for seeing a Super Mario Sunshine 3D title, I'd definitely prefer a sequel (and it's definitely possible since they made a sequel for LM). Don't get me wrong, I loved the original SMS and I would definitely play it if they did go with a normal port, but I'd much rather see a whole new adventure. |
|
||||
![]()
My grammar can sometimes be blah.
Of course i'd love SMS 3D, but the fact that my gamecube didn't have a memory card irked me off, so yeah I did a oneshot of all my games back then. Maybe if they did something like save a person in each paintish world + the stages were longer, I don't know...

I'm not doubting that longer stages would definitely be nice, but I don't think I could see that happening on a portable system. When most people think of playing a portable game, they tend to like mid-length levels (where they'd be able to complete a level when they have a spare ten minutes). The 3DS does offer a nice sleep-function so longer levels could very well be possible.
I also agree that I'd like to see some different aspects as you mentioned, but I don't know. I really did enjoy the idea that you had to collect the Shine Sprites to clean up the island, but that was essentially the same as collecting stars, which has worked well for Mario in the past. |

In my opinion, co-op could be possible. Where as in 1 would host, and three others could join. Defeating monsters could be less-scarier and easier( i guess ) and some places could only be accessed through co-op play

There's a nice little chart in this article that compares the disk (or cart) sizes of some more current consoles. According to the graph, the Gamecube's disk caps at 1.4GB, while the 3DS' cart caps at 2.0GB. There should be no issue fitting a Gamecube game onto a 3DS cart.
While I agree that they could've made the carts a bigger size (considering how big a microSD card can get up to these days), I don't think it's all too necessary. It would only cost the developers more money to purchase these bigger sizes, let alone develop a game big enough to fill that bigger size (costs that would surely reflect on the pricing of retail games). Bigger isn't always better. Last edited by MrTripStack; 07-21-2012 at 01:23 AM. |

But think of how big gamecube games are in resolution at standard :P
A 3ds remake would decrease it by several hundreds of megabyte :P But one game i REALLY want to have as a remake is twilight princess and super smash bros! O.O

Well, they're already making a Super Smash Bros. game that'll be released on the 3DS and Wii U, so I couldn't see them remaking the Gamecube version.
Some Gamecube games I would like to see a port of include Super Mario Sunshine, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Starfox Adventures, and Metroid Prime. The Wii U is getting a new Pikmin game and I'd also love some sort of Pikmin port for the 3DS (rather it be Pikmin 2, or the original). |

I believe a sequel would be harder than bringing Gunpei Yokoi back. u_u A remake would be possible, I'd say "no, if they were to remake an old polygonal Mario they'd do Super Mario 64" but since they've done it for the DS, maaaaaaaybe one day Mr. Iwata will wake up in a particular good mood and say "Hey, why don't we remake Super Mario Sunshine for the Nintendo 3DS, desu?" and BAM! a new star in the skies of awesome will appear.

i was happy that they made luigi's mansion dark moon it wasn't as great as the original (just due to the fact you can't free roam and it just mission based) but in my opinion it was still a very solid game and one of my favorites on 3ds.
That being said i think nintendo should dust off the cobwebs off my other favorite GC game Super Mario Sunshine. Similarly to luigis mansion, Sunshine was a Different style of game compared to the typical mario platformer and i thought was really fun. Its been 10 years since sunshine came out and i think it would breath some fresh air into the Mario franchise because lately all nintendo has been pushing out is typical platformer games like New Super Mario Bros and 3D land. Don't get me wrong i do enjoy those games its just that like luigis mansion, Sunshine 2 would be a nice change of pace. |

Eh. I do get the feeling that they will eventually 'remake' (in reality port, but they'll say otherwise) Super Mario Sunshine for the 3DS. However, I'd much rather them make a sequel for the Wii U. Complete with the open world format.
I feel like Super Mario Sunshine's environment would be better suited for an HD console. In fact, it would look very gorgeous. On the 3DS it would be... jagged edges everywhere and obvious graphical decreases from the original. I don't want to see that, personally. Graphics aren't everything, of course, but with SMS I'd rather them be better.

They could easily create a version for both 3ds and the u. Personally I loved sunshine, different lever styles and upon release was definitely a breath of fresh air. I agree though, other franchises need to be fulfilled on ds first, I.e. Kirby, Metroid, Wario, etc..
Sunshine would be sweet on 3ds, but I think other games should be released first

Oh yes! I would love, love, love a SMS game on the 3DS. It won't help me much on a home console, since I don't own any. I would love a 3DS version as that game was awesome. Even a port would be sweet. I wish they would have allowed us the original LM too, if it is possible on the 3DS.

Mario in general is very popular and would generate many sales. I hear very little about Sunshine in comparison to other Mario games now and it feels it hasn't stood up as well as others though. So yeah, no **** a Mario game is going to fly off the shelves, but it doesn't mean it is super popular in the realm of Mario.
