Mother of gawd. There aren't words for how much I loved this episode. This is just another example of how great the writers for this show. Instead of beating around the bush for 15 to 20 more episodes and confessing her love to Mako right before some big perilous fight or other such important event (i'm looking at you, characters of every freaking tv show ever) Korra did it right there in the ****ing locker rooms. It just blows my mind. I know a lot of people hate this angsty teenage love **** and are probably seething with pure unadulterated rage at this moment for wasting an episode on the stuff, but seeing someone be truly honest with their emotions instead of hiding them is really great. Makes them seem a whole lot more human than the average cartoon characters. Alas, I do see some TV trope-worthy plot lines in the future. Mako can't be with Korra because he's with Asami but then something will happen and Mako will break it off with Asami and then Korra and Mako will be together. *sigh* Hopefully the writers will surprise me and something that obvious won't happen, but I doubt it. Aside from the Mako x Korra stuff, we did get to see some seriously great Bolin moments. Bolin and Korra's date was beyond adorable. And when he saw Mako and Korra kissing and began bawling his eyes out I didn't know whether to feel sad with him or laugh my ass off. Still, even though he's one of my most favorite characters on the show, Bolin showed that he's just a tad bit immature. At least he seems that way to me. The manner in which he reacted to seeing Korra kissing Mako, though totally warranted because that pretty much sucked balls, wasn't a reaction of a man being betrayed by his brother. It was of a kid seeing someone steal his favorite toy. And hey, I may be wrong. Bolin may in fact react that way for the rest of his life, but it just seemed like a kiddish thing to do. I'm sure Bolin will do some real growing up by the end of the series though. Anywho, time for some quickish tidbits about the episode.

It was nice to see some Pema backstory. I do have to wonder who Tenzin was seeing before he hooked up with her though. They'll probably never tell us as it isn't important, but i'd really like to know. Tenzin doesn't seem like the dating type, so I just assumed Pema and him being together was sort of a freak accident of nature.

Korra being nice to Asami made me laugh heartily. "Thanks for the money", she said after having kissed her boyfriend.

Bolin getting drunk on (possibly) Flameo's Noodles was downright hilarious. Just bravo.

Tahno is so arrogant, but it apparently isn't unwarranted given how easily his team defeated their opponents in the final match. It should be really interesting to see the final match between the Fire Ferrets and the Wolf Bats. Unless of course. We'll just have to wait till next week to see what happens though. Can't wait.

Did it end with the reigning champs walking off arrogantly after winning their match really quickly and Korra, Mako and Bolin looking on in shock? The version I watched seemed to just cut out at that bit and it felt like I maybe missed the end?

I'm loving Bolin more and more. One of my favourite things about the avatar series is the comedy. I loved Sokka for it in the original, I'm loving Bolin for it here. I still think all the relationship/lovey dovey stuff feels a bit too rushed and happening too fast, but it's nothing too bad and it's still handled pretty well. I quite liked the new character introduced, the leader of the reigning champions pro-bending team, I know we're not supposed to like him but I always end up liking the arrogant douche characters

Overall a good episode, and as ever can't wait for the next one.

In a preview we see Amon appear during a Pro-Bending match and Tahno getting his powers taken away.
I'm assuming it'll be that really kicks off the battle with the Equalists.

But why Tahno? Is it supposed to be a like a warning or threat to the benders? Make a public appearance for more people to see them?

He's one of the most famous benders in the entire Republic due to his fame.
It let's everyone know he's not just targeting crime syndicates and announces his power to the world while everyone is watching, yet at the same time he gets to avoid attacking someone like Korra or a political leader, which would taint his public image.

Also, he gets to look like a total boss by doing right under the Avatar's nose. I can already see the Republic City reporters. "Why did you fail to stop Amon when he was right there in front of you?" or something to that affect.

Perhaps The Fire Ferrets beat the Wolfbats in the final, Tahno can't handle the loss and goes crazy, attacking Korra and co with bending, Amon swoops in, takes his bending away and saves the day. He looks like a hero and makes his case against bending even stronger. Whatever happens, I'm pretty bummed Tahno loses his bending already, I quite like him.

At the tournament, the Fire Ferrets lose but then Amon and company break into the probending arena. Korra tries to stop him but she is subdued and Amon takes away the Wind Falls Wolfbats' bending. This action demonstrates to all of Republic City that even the most powerful benders will succumb to his power. Because she was unable to stop him, it also undermines Korra's public image and the people lose faith in the avatar.

Does the entire series take place in one city or is the world open to exploration again?
What's the general plot?

It's entirely in Republic City, though the city has so much history, political and social dispute, criminal activity and unique facilities that it's actually really interesting to explore. It alone has as much depth as any of the individual nations, if not moreso. Additionally, Nickelodeons official website has an interactive tour that goes into detail about how its politics work, the creation of its industry, how lightning benders power the city, the metal-bending police taskforce, etc.

The show's plot setup is two standalone seasons, rather than one ongoing story crossing three seasons. The current one will be airing episode 6 soon, lasting 12 episodes altogether.
In Book: Air it focuses on Korra's arrival in the city to train with Aang's son, Tenzin, to learn her final element. However, there's an anti-bender socialist movement being led under a masked figurehead named Amon, who has the mysterious ability to take bending away. Korra is dealing with the inequality rampant throughout the city and taking on his Equalist group in a task force with her Pro-Bending teamates, Mako and Bolin.

Is it just me, or is Amon reminiscent of Anon?

Am I the only one who liked a lack of development for Ozai? Azula as a villain was deep, conniving.. and then really depressing. The fact that Ozai was first and foremost a power seeking and prideful villain really added a level of depth to both Zuko and Azula.. Not to mention, him being a mere shadow throughout seasons one and two added to the fear of this character. With all the deep character plots, it was nice to just have a "villain" on the show.

I know Amon will definitely be deeper than Ozai and I have no qualms with this (and am intrigued).. But, I just wanted to appreciate the awesome that was Ozai.

Any who, why is there no love for the beauty of Tahno? I guess no one wants his private lessons...

As much as I loved the to kill or not to kill issues Aang had.. Azula vs Zuko was just so good, and development takes the credit for that. TO EACH THEIR OWN.

Toph went on to create a Metal-Bending school when young and later a police force. She married at some point and had a daughter, Lin, who is now the chief the police force. Whether she is alive or dead is unknown.

Sokka is dead. That's all we know.

Katara went on to marry Aang, had 3 children (Bumi, a non bender; Kya, a waterbender; Tenzin, an airbender). She trained Korra in water-bending and healing. She is still alive.

Aang, while attempting to "dismantle" the fire colonies after the war (this was called the Harmony Restoration Movement), ran into a situation with some of the oldest colonies established. The culture in those colonies were too intertwined with each other (as Zuko pointed out) to simply break apart. We can assume this lead to the creation of Republic City, a place where the nations are unified. His time in the iceberg caught up to him and he died at age 67.

Zuko became firelord. Early on, during the Harmony Restoration Movement, he realized some of the oldest colonies were intertwined and embedded in the lives are those who lived there to break apart. As firelord, he was the who pushed for a solution that didn't involve hurting his people at these colonies. This lead to what I stated with Aang. He went on to marry unknown (assumed Mai) and had a daughter, who is currently (the first female) firelord. Zuko retired and is currently traveling the world. He is alive.

Azula was brought into a mental health facility after the war (she broke down psychologically by the end). She was watched around the clock. Her current status is unknown.

Ozai rotted in jail.

Ty Lee joined the Kyoshi Warriors and taught them Chi-Blocking. Her current status is unknown. Whether or not this has anything to do with Amon is unknown.

Mai's status is unknown.

Suki's status is unknown.

Iroh's status is unknown, but we can assume dead.

Appa: After the war, Aang discovered a small herd of Air Bison not too far from the Western Air Temple, who were in hiding. Seeing as Sozin only went after stray Air Nomads and not their animals, this is COMPLETELY plausible. So Air Bison, though endangered, can be repopulated (we see Tenzin with his own Air Bison in Korra).

Momo: He was an endangered species during Avatar. Whether or not his kind is extinct is unknown, but in Korra, we do see a branch off their species called the ring tailed lemur.

It was like someone shot an awesome ray into my eyes. Some of the best fighting scenes in the whole series. Amon for villain of the century. He was a total bad ass in this episode. Came in, took out Tahno and the Wolf-bats, gave his little speech and then left like he hadn't just declared war against the benders of the world. Also, Tarlok is definitely working for Amon. He gave in way too easily when Lin wanted to keep the arena open. Speaking of Lin, this episode really cemented her in my mind as one of my favorite characters. So cool. Sadly, it seems we won't have an episode next week. Guess we'll have to wait for the Aftermath. Oh well. Great ****ing episode.

Dat flashback. Those ****ing teases. I need a full on flashback. Amon is definitely related to the Yukone incident. Or at least Korra will know what to do thanks to Aang's actions during the Yukone incident. Gah! Gimme da flashback, Bryke! I need to see old Aang in Avatar state.

in the episode the desert, toward the end when aang was really upset and sokka, katara, and toph were running from the buzzardwasps, aang chased one down and killed it with an airblast from his glider. This was most likely because he was frustrated and so upset because Appa was stolen from him
