Default Santa Destroy

Santa Destroy was recently plagued by un-adequateness, and is now quarantined somewhere in the depths of this dark forum. We grieve for the loss of a great thread, but will continue nonetheless!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I felt I'd keep Bloozetunes up here if people felt like sharing music and chatting elsewhere. No forum rules are there to keep you down, but there is a maximum capacity of five persons.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We're open for posting! The usual posters should know how this place works, so I'm not detailing any dumb RUUUUUUUUUURRRRUUUUSSSS, mmkay~? If you're new to this place, try reading some posts before actually posting for a good idea of how to post here - We appreciate high quality posting here, and anyone who fails to meet our standards will have a target placed on them for future assassination.

Well maybe not by me, but I can't guarantee some other person won't do that.

Oh, and anyone who goes "first" on this page should find their way out of here.

A moment of silence for our fallen thread.

EDIT A MOMENT OF SILENCE LATER BUT NOT REALLY: So, i'll start this thread by posting my most favorite Google Doodle of all time and forever and eternity:

Freddie Mercury's 65th Birthday - Google

So cool.

third.

I still don't get how this is any different, but here, go read about some British trolls:
BBC - Newsbeat - Gamers try to use 'virtual skills' in real world
"A study spoke to 15 to 21 year olds and discovered some gamers end up doing things like reaching for a search button to find someone in a real crowd.

Others had tried to use a 'gravity gun' to pick up food."

We already have an official Cam Newton thread.

Next is a Cam Newton forum skin.

Then, someone will create a thread titled: "Has Cam Newton gone too far?!" For several pages, we will argue about the relevance of Cam Newton on a forum devoted to the 3DS but in the end the discussion will amount to nothing.

Finally, someone will create a Cam Newton filter.

Don't worry, everything's fine now. I put the yo-yos away, so the spoons can't reach them. The next plan of action would be to hide all the women and children inside the lettuce to prevent the spread of apples.

Okay, so I'm browsing through artists on last.fm, and I see this:

Spoiler!

What?! There was a new Genki Rockets album, and I didn't hear about it until just now!? So I went on Amazon and ordered a copy for myself.

Genki Rockets is slightly relevant to Santa Destroy because of a certain song:

Finally got to completing the nice little DSi/3DS freebie. Hero's Trial 3 wasn't as terrible as Hero's Trial 2 was, but the the last room in Trial 3 killed me like 5 times D: Never touching that on SP again. And for reason, the picture looks over saturated :O

Baroque did mention this to me earlier, but Grasshopper Manufacture seems to be hinting at some portable No More Heroes experiences.

Oh wow, that's cool. It would have helped me with biology last year, since I only partially understood how motor proteins moved vesicles across the microtubules. Not the ATP stuff, but what it looked like in actual motion. They really do look like people "walking."

Ugh, Blues, I know what you're talking about in the last room of Trial 3. I got absolutely DESTROYED, and I'm not in the mood to have another go at it.

I might eventually just do it in 2P, though. I have a friend who has Great Spin, so that'll help a ton.

Oh, and an interesting bit of news outside of the whole Steve Jobs thing. Apparently it's shameful to request a box for any left over food when eating at a restaurant? Well, this seems to be the case in the UK, and I find the comments at the bottom to be particularly interesting.

If I can't finish my boneless buffalo wings for some extreme reason, I am taking them home with me to eat. Yeah, yeah, I'm paying for the "appeal" of the restaurant along with the meal, but that doesn't mean I should leave my leftovers. It's wasteful.

There are Starvin' Marvins out there that would love to have leftovers.

Holy crap, man. I am laughing like heck right now. I just realized that in that Pokemon short by the AT guys, Ash says to Pikachu "My dad taught me that trick before he left my mom." That's just hilarious.

Why would people be opposed to doggy bags? You payed for the food, you get it. I'd also take wanting to bring it home as one of the only sure ways of knowing if someone liked their food, so it's certainly not rude.

So people in other countries are too conscious of their appearances, hmm? One argument I read is that restaurants are at fault for serving larger than needed servings, and therefore perpetuate some sort of gluttony-endorsing attitude amongst customers.

Though I don't think that means you shouldn't ask for a container to bring leftovers. Some people think its gross to ask for a bag, and I'll never really understand that notion.

I always thought it was bad manners to take food from a fancy restaurant. At least that's what my grandma taught me.

Most "fancy" restaurants I go to have small servings, so I usually have nothing to bring home unlike something like Romano's Macaroni Grill, where the servings are a bit large.

Lol. I think my definition of fancy restaurant differs greatly from yours. In my small town, any place with waiters not on roller skates is fancy and they usually serve ginormous plates of food.

AHAHAHAHHA! What a face!

But on that food thing, I don't get how it could be considered bad manners. It's not like they will give the scraps to anyone in most cases.

Young Justice 13 - Alpha Male

Dunno if anyone still watches this show here, but the latest episode did come out just now, and it features Captain Marvel who now replaces Red Tornado. The series has been on hiatus for quite a while until a few weeks ago, so if you're interested in teenage super heroism, now is a good time to catch up.

Anyway, the series is still going pretty strong, and we're just halfway through the first season. There are quite a number of mysteries surrounding the plot, but each episode seems to do fairly well on their own. Wikipedia states that the next episode will feature the Injustice League - Which should be pretty interesting.

Captain Marvel was done marvelously by the way.

Just got caught up and I have to agree that Captain Marvel was great. They really captured the whole "he's still a kid" thing. Also, I don't like the Miss Martian x Superboy relationship thing. I dunno. It just feels weird. Poor Wally. Looking forward to the next episode.

Superboy and M'gann seem to work well together - At the very least, their being together seems to have contributed to their character development. Wally seems to have better chemistry with Artemis anyway.

Artemis is pretty cool if you ask me. The mystery surrounding her being a part of the team is quite interesting. Especially with all this stuff concerning the mole, and her characterization in Home Front.

It seems the relationship thread got cleaned while I was away, meaning things became... most interesting.

Relationship threads on these sorts of forums do tend to attract weirdos, don't they? The weirdos who post their stories, and the weirdos who wait for them to be posted.

Anyway, a cute comic:

Hmm, you remind me of something...

I attended a dinner last night with some friends at what I'd consider a "fancy restaurant." We like to take pictures of our social activities, so I'll present what we ordered - Mine being the later image:

See, the servings are actually pretty small (though very delicious). It's hard not to finish these up. We even ordered dessert, which was gelato if you're interested in knowing. Each dish was around $40-$49. Luckily, I didn't have to pay for any of this.

Whaa. That's like something out of a movie or one of those fancy rich people restaurants they show on those celebrity shows. I don't think we have anything like that in Brownsville. Also, 40 to 50 bucks?!?!?!? Who was cooking at the place? Emeril?

I can get good meals for 15-30 dollars a piece at tons of places.
I don't intend to pay 50 bucks for a slab of meat.

I'm not a big eater and can be really picky with what type of food I eat.
I don't need anything fancy. Chicken is chicken, pasta is pasta.

I mean, I'm pretty loaded, my family goes to pretty-nice restaurants, like, bi-weekly, but I mean, the sorta restaurant Blues posted pics of is either something you're invited to or a super special occasion. Like, a once or twice a year thing.

We're not that rich, guys.

Whenever I go to those types of restaurants I need to specialize my order and make an idiot of myself.
Everything is always way classier than my tastes.

It's actually more than once or twice a year, but yeah, it's definitely not an everyday thing. And considering the serving sizes, these shouldn't be the type of restaurants to go to if you're only looking for a meal. I sometimes go out with friends to these places simply for the experience, and stories that can be derived from them.

There's a lot more to say about this place compared to, let's say a Chili's Grill & Bar Restaurant.

And speaking of Music Bank, I just watched a re-run with 다비치 winning. A bit surprising, but good for them!

Wow. Blocky faces sure made me get a different perspective on Claude Speed.

I always Imagined him looking less... manly.

This is an 10-year Anniversary figure done by Rockstar Games, btw.

I'm here for just a little while, so I'll just post some things I found interesting over the past few days.

ventla

Currently tagged on last.fm as electronic, chillwave, experimental, lo-fi, synthpop, folktronica, and Japanese, ventla was shared to me by a really awesome guy who helped me with preparations two days ago. All the music is free, and ventla plans to keep pumping out more free albums so it wouldn't really hurt to give the stuff a listen. I'd personally tag this as avant-garde to some degree, as the music reminds me a bit of The Residents (who I think everyone should listen to as well).

Anywho, this link should bring you to ventla's Tumblr where you can get some previews and download any albums released so far.

Young Justice - Revelation

Friday had a new episode that featured a lot of Justice League heroes and a bunch of villains. Uh, overall, it was okay. Some highlights would be the appearances of so many heroes, the Joker, and to some degree Artemis, Ms. Martian, and Robin. For some reason, Wally outright sucked throughout the whole episode and Black Adam didn't do much of anything besides act like some sort of henchman - I didn't like that.

Oh, and The Light was revealed at the end of the episode. I won't spoil who each member is, but I'll say that at least four of the seven have been shown in previous episodes.

And that will be all for today. I'll be checking out some haunted houses later today. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I would consider My Neighbor Totoro to be one of his more obscure films.

I don't mind K-Pop. The women are far more attractive than western pop stars.

It probably came out before you were born, right? So you wouldn't know it at all since you can't remember it.

Meanwhile, old people remember. We always remember. Until we forget. Then we don't remember anymore.

I didn't realize March was such a good month for threads.

Nintendo using women as objects with 3DS - I was sorta hoping more people would continue arguing with me, but the thread became spam central at some point and got closed

3DS components only cost $101? - Surprisingly this thread wasn't closed. I actually did want to defend the 3DS here, but I didn't have anything to argue with. At some point the arguments turned real bad, so I just sat back and read.

And I do know that the 3DS Forum had some really funny threads, but that place is flooded with so much garbage that diving into that would be harmful to my body. Some reactions to barkiss3DS were also entertaining. Funny how everyone hated the guy, then suddenly loved him when the whole "barkis is willing - are you?!" thing came about. Anyway, a comic:

Spoiler!

That's because he transformed from an annoying fanboy that derails and spams threads to a conspiracy theorist setting up himself as a messiah.

The latter is far more entertaining.

Something I worked on yesterday and finished just now. Ain't it cute?

Young Justice 15 - Humanity

Unfortunately, I don't have any high quality images, but it shouldn't matter much. Anyway, it seems Robin is getting shipped with Zatanna. Not entirely sure how I feel about this, but it's cute. Captain Marvel got a little screen time again, but the main feature of this episode was Red Tornado. I won't spoil anything, but Red Volcano makes an appearance as well as the other two who appeared a few episodes ago. Good episode overall.

This is something I don't often do, but...

Quote:

Allow me to explain why.

It may not come as much of a surprise coming from one of IGN's PlayStation editors, but my excitement for the PlayStation Vita is palpable. I've played Sony's upcoming handheld on numerous occasions since it was revealed and have had hands-on time with a plethora of games. And while I acknowledge that Sony has stumbled quite a few times during the PSP and PS3's lifecycle, things appear to be different this time around. Sony's emphasis seems to be on all the right things, and Vita is primed to do a lot better than people are expecting it to.

In short, Vita will be the real deal when it's finally released in the west on February 22, 2012. It has an impressive roster of games in development, it's a technological powerhouse with connectivity options that are becoming increasingly important in the games space, and as a dedicated gaming device, everything it's capable of doing combines to make it look much better than the offerings from its primary competitors.

For starters, PlayStation Vita has games. Lots and lots of them are in development. Games sell devices like the Vita, and I've played enough of Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Resistance: Burning Skies, Sound Shapes, Gravity Rush, Super Stardust Delta, Escape Plan, Ruin and so on to tell you that you won't have to concern yourself with not having a deluge of quality and interesting games to play. They'll be there, and in impressive numbers. Without games, the PlayStation Vita would be an expensive paperweight with a pretty OLED screen.

For better or for worse, Vita will be pitted against the Nintendo 3DS. But the comparison doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and even if you were to pit them against each other, Vita is still destined to sell better. That's because in addition to games (which Nintendo 3DS is still sorely lacking), it's also a much more powerful machine capable of doing a whole lot more than 3DS.

It will have full access to an actual online service in the PlayStation Network, it will utilize a series of popular third-party applications, and it will come in an optional model that lets you go online anywhere you get cell phone service. It doesn't depend on an antiquated online interface. It has the potential to be a ubiquitously connected device, one that is being set-up to speak directly with your PlayStation 3 over the PlayStation Network. Vita is therefore not only echelons ahead of 3DS in terms of games, but it's light years ahead of Nintendo's handheld in terms of tech. Comparing the two isn't even really fair, as I've discussed before, and it's a fallacy to continue to do so.

Nintendo isn't the primary competition for Sony this time around. The major complaint against something like Vita is that its space is being encroached upon by the phone and tablet market, and hence the real competition for Vita will come from Apple and Android devices. There's certainly something to be said about that. People are playing games on iOS in insane amounts. Hell, 30 million people play Angry Birds everyday. That poses a real problem for Sony.

But the issue for touch devices is that most traditional games simply can't be played on them. You can't play a first-person shooter, a side-scrolling action game, a platformer or many other genres with a touch screen... at least, not as they were intended. You need a control pad and analog sticks, you need triggers and face buttons. Even Nintendo, with its buttons and triggers and touch pad admitted that leaving off a second analog stick from its handheld was a huge mistake. Now, you have to buy it separately. Vita comes with one right off the bat because it's probably the most glaringly obvious thing a handheld needs to compete these days.

When you combine everything the PlayStation Vita can do, it could easily make you wonder why it's been short-changed by many people in the gaming community. The Nintendo 3DS is certainly not going to take the Vita out with N64 ports and tired, worn series. The iPhone and Android phones are in everyone's pockets, but who's going to play a competent first-person shooter or action-heavy games like Arkham City on them any time soon? The Vita seems to be the best of both worlds ? a technologically-advanced and connected handheld that's tailor-made for gamers.

Should Sony feel threatened by its competition? Sure. But Nintendo is the least of Sony's concerns these days. The boys in Cupertino probably have tricks up their sleeves that could make Vita look much less appealing, however. But until we see what that is, I implore you not to sleep on the PlayStation Vita's potential. The dedicated gaming handheld will die sometime in the future. But, as much as Nintendo is trying to prove otherwise, the future isn't here yet.

First off, this sorta goes against my prohibition on Vita vs. 3DS discussions, but I can trust regulars here won't post anything absurd or just plain stupid. I didn't post the article to start a comparison discussion though, but rather because I find it interesting to make a point about "ports and tired, worn series" when the argument itself is a "port."

I put certain portions of the article (besides the title) in bold because I feel those pretty much summarize the real argument here - Vita is technologically superior and possesses "hardcore" games therefore it will succeed.

And before anyone gets the wrong idea, I'm not saying the Vita is going to fail - Actually I have no idea how the 3DS or the Vita will turn out a couple years from now.

Listen Read this ****

So I'm at the supermarket 'cause my roommate's a ****ing idiot who thinks she can eat all the damn food in the apartment and then just sleep away without a ****ing care in the world. Well I'm hungry so I gotta do something. Damn ***** doesn't even leave her bedroom unless she goes to class or her boyfriend takes her on a date.

The most I've ever seen her do is ***** and moan about life and whatnot - Which is soooooooooo annoying! Hell, every time I have guests over to play video games, watch movies, hangout, she just locks herself in her room. How does she even have a boyfriend?!

ANYWAY...

So, I'm at the supermarket and I'm waiting in line to pay for my ****: Many TV dinners (the diet kind, and hopefully Ms. Gluttony doesn't devour them), some rice cakes, instant ramen, etc. And SUDDENLY this (get this) damn girl in front of me starts to complain that the item she wants that is on sale isn't in stock.

I sit there and contemplate what I should say, assuming I'd be there longer than I'd want to be; granted, the item was a BOGO chips sale. Eh.

So finally, as she's in the middle of harassing this excellent cashier, I open my mouth:

"Hey, can we shut the hell up and move on? Is that alright!? They're just chips, crap-for-brains. Buy them another time. What the hell's your problem?"

"You wanna know?!" she said to me without turning around.

Crap! I'm really not much of a fighter, and looking at her now I think she'd rip me to shreds. So she turns around and stares at me. I actually prayed for forgiveness in my head.

She finally says:

"I had Reese's for breakfast!"

"Crap, you had candy for breakfast?!"

"Not candy, Reese's Puff Cereal!"

So she pours me a bowl and I shove the spoon in my mouth. Then a completely orgasmic wave of peanut butter and chocolatey flavor bombards my taste buds!

Reese's Puff Cereal

It's Reese's, FOR BREAKFAST!

That's why the PSP did so well right?

IGN's editorial team that deals with Sony is all fanboys, no one should listen to them about these types of things.

A couple of things:

Apparently I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. I hope it gets fixed soon. I cannot live without reblogging every neat thing I find. Well not really, but I do love sifting through all the K-Pop and idol pages for pictures and news.

Also, after seeing Storm's Cosplay Thread, I realized that (this) Santa Destroy is lacking in cosplay. So to remedy this, a couple of images:

I took some from my own collection and stole a few from my friend's Photobucket. If you're interested in what series they're cosplaying from, it's K-ON!!, Bioshock Infinite, ヤンキー君とメガネちゃん, Cowboy Bebop, and Touhou (of course) from top to bottom. Hopefully they're not re-posts, but if they are it doesn't matter much.

I do like it, though I don't think it's my fourth time posting that. I did maybe twice at most on the Chat, but that's about it.

EDIT: Comic (with slight nudity)

Spoiler!

Kurtiss, being the absolutely wonderful sweetheart he is, increased avatar file sizes to at least 9MB now.

Spoiler!

That's actually way more than what I needed, which is great! So I'll probably make a ton of animated avatars like I did for kevinsky just now. Love~!

Anyway, because I have nothing else to say - More cosplay:

Series cosplayed (from top to bottom) are Crash Bandicoot, Durarara!!, Black Rock Shooter, One Piece, Metroid, and Dead Space.

Want to see what I've been doing the last couple of weeks?

Watch this: (Video may not be appropriate for some. If you are squeamish, don't look.)

Spoiler!

This is just one video, but there are many other ones, if you are interested. So far we have done all of the back and upper limb. The videos are just like doing the dissection yourself, without the smell though.

Human anatomy dissection? Delicious? Some how I feel those two combine to create cannibalism.

Anyways it's snowing over here. Already. I'm not in Colorado, I'm in upper New Jersey. The snow started about 1 hour ago and it's sticking to the ground any cars! Anyone else here getting the same thing?

Before I get off, here is the English transcript of the Semi-Annual Financial Results Q&A. The last question and answer segment was a pretty neat read.

For example, the majority of social games, which have expanded in Japan, are not available on smartphones today. The fact is, the majority of such games are played on multi-functional cell phones that we Japanese often and uniquely call ?Galapagos Cell Phones" or, more recently, ?Feature Phones." It appears these two different devices are mixed together in their arguments.

Regarding the effect of so-called ?social games," it seems that so many people believe in the causal relationship between the decline in Nintendo?s business performance and the rapid expansion of social games just because these two events have happened simultaneously. On the contrary, we do not believe that they are a big factor in our slower performance today. Since I have repeatedly explained about this in this type of opportunity, I do not intend to repeat the same explanations but, as we continue our research even after making such an explanation, we have never found any research data which show any meaningful differences in the attitude towards or in the frequency of playing with the Nintendo?s handheld game systems as a result of playing with social games. Accordingly, we have to think that there are no causal relationships. Game businesses are largely affected by the availability of a hit title. At the upcoming year-end sales season, where we have multiple software titles which have the potential to become hits one after another, we believe that we can pull the trend to our side. We really want to show a year-end sales result that can more effectively communicate to a number of people that the growth of social games has no causal relation with Nintendo?s performance.

Next, about smartphones. Smartphones in Japan have entered into a cycle of rapid expansion this year. In the U.S. such a trend was found earlier. Among younger generations in particular, smartphones have become the contemporary must-have items, and it has become rather common for us to switch to smartphones at the time we need to exchange our existing cell phone for another. With smartphones, you can play games without purchasing a dedicated game system, and these games are offered either free of charge or at extremely low prices. In this regard, there is no doubt that the bar has been raised higher than before for us to encourage consumers to spend several thousands of yen for a video game in Japan.

However, approximately a decade ago, a number of people used to say exactly the same thing. Namely, they said that, with the ability of cell phones back then being able to run a variety of software applications, dedicated handheld game systems would not be purchased any more. The fact is, their forecast has not become a reality. This time, the basic structure is the same. Nintendo has been recognizing that video game systems are something that consumers are obliged to buy in order to play with the software they want to enjoy. Therefore, the most critical thing for us is to periodically propose software that can encourage people to have the mindset of, ?I really want to play it." The circumstance surrounding us has not changed in this regard. On the contrary, we now have a means to communicate our information rather effectively to our consumers directly. So, as I said today, we are currently considering how we can best take advantage of this media, and our attempt to put Nintendo eShop on the Web is one of such efforts.

As for the opinion that game dedicated handheld devices are not needed any more as long as you have a smartphone, I cannot say that no one holds such a belief; however, the results of our research have not shown any meaningful differences between the game play attitudes of consumers that do own smartphones from those who do not. Accordingly, as long as the Nintendo 3DS can offer gaming experiences that can not be realized on smartphones, and if they are attractive enough, we can ask our consumers to purchase the Nintendo 3DS. The important thing for us is to make these proposals by taking advantage of our position of being able to make unique offers based upon the integration of both hardware and software as we are making both
It's pleasing to see that Nintendo understands the whole situation with smartphones here, and how they know that their business depends on their software library attracting more customers to their hardware. Wish more people here would understand that much.

I think one of the very important jobs of Nintendo is to identify the third-party software made in Japan which, we believe, will have a strong affinity with the tastes in the overseas markets and, thus, have a strong market potential there, and we will collaborate with them to make these titles into hits. So, with these different efforts, we would like to enrich the software lineup for the markets outside Japan as well from next year, which will become one of the contributing factors for our improved profitability in the next fiscal year.
Hopefully this means more localizations. There was also a bit on how they recognized how HD is a necessity and how software droughts are a real problem.

Thoughts?

I hope they keep their word on localizing games. Some of those jRPG's look very interesting.

We all caught the "third-party" part right? So if you're hoping for Xenoblade, Last Story, or Pandora's Tower... well, he still hasn't commented on them.

I was actually referring to Monster Hunter Tri G, and some other developers like Level-5.

Though on the subject of the three RPGs listed, I like to think Nintendo will release enhanced versions of them on the Wii U. Unlikely, but it sounds interesting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Level 5's stuff gets localized. Just usually really slowly.

As for MH3G, I'm sure it'll come out eventually here. As long as Capcom doesn't give Nintendo exclusive publishing rights or something.

Even if they do, it's probably more likely that they stay Japan exclusive. Definitely wouldn't mind playing Xenoblade in HD though.

Some level-5 games don't get localized. But I'm sure these will, Fantasy Life sounds interesting, and it would suck if it stayed a Japan exclusive.

I'm sure MH3G will come to other territories. AFAIK only MHP3rd wasn't localized, and that's only because the PSP is at the end of it's life cycle.

Sure.

There's a bit more to it than just Monster Hunter though. What I'm hoping is that the likelihood of Japanese third party titles being localized is increased. I believe the strong yen will have an impact on future localizations, so if Nintendo is really going to work with other Japanese publishers to identify what will work outside of Japan, it may help alleviate any possibility of future game droughts.

Anyone still care about DMC? You know, that Ninja Theory reboot or whatever it was supposed to be? Well here's some interesting news concerning Dante:

Suda51.

Imagine if they were there from the beginning of video game history.

What a f**ked up world that would be.

I think Volnutt being there is more than enough.

If it wasn't for me, The Banner of Misfit Games would never exist.

So the notion of video gaming is evolving. Apple certainly has affected our perception of games, pricing, and portability. Don't think their contributions overshadow the significance of the work of many people over the last couple decades though.

Pretty laughable if you ask me. The only thing that gives me pause is that its a survey of a game devs, and not a bunch of idiotic analysts or something.

'Twas probably ruined by a bunch of biased iPhone devs with their moneyhatz.

I can't wait for the social games bubble to pop and all this talk about Apple dominating everyone else in the gaming industry stops.

At 99 cents? I'm not too sure about that.
This is all most likely bias, and something that people may laugh over in the future. Of course, this isn't to say some people aren't laughing now.

Social gaming bubble is beginning to pop.

Zynga's Continued Declines 'Extremely Troubling' - IndustryGamers

Quote:
Zynga is easily the top social games maker, but its dominance and massive valuation (overvaluation?) should not be taken for granted. DAUs (daily active users) have been showing major declines for the company even with Zynga launching five new games in the last four months.

Zynga's DAUs declined by 700K to 46.9MM (-1.5% m/m) over the past five weeks. Even the most recent game, Zynga's sequel to Mafia Wars, hasn't quite demonstrated the high numbers many were expecting. Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz has pointed out that the recent poor numbers could affect the much talked about IPO from Zynga.

"Three of the five recent launches ('Empires & Allies', 'Pioneer Trail', and 'Adventure World') have suffered 40%+ DAU drops off their post-launch peaks, while 'Mafia Wars 2', launched two weeks ago, is already showing signs of having peaked. We think the lack of user growth at Zynga - which is really a two-year old problem - could cause issues ahead of a potential IPO in November, particularly given an expected rich valuation," he said.

The closest competitor to Zynga, Electronic Arts, has seen its DAUs drop as well, falling 3.5MM to 14.6MM (-19.5% m/m) "as the viral growth of The Sims Social appears to have ended," noted Creutz. But for now, Zynga needs to worry about Zynga, not EA. The company must figure out a way to drive user growth.

New titles don't appear to be doing the trick, as they are "largely cannibalizing users from old titles, and failing to attract new users to Zynga’s portfolio," said Creutz.

He further expained Zynga's problems:

"At least as disturbing has been the degree to which new launches have begun rolling over almost immediately after the initial launch. Three of the five games (Empires & Allies, Pioneer Trail, and Adventure World) are already down more than 40% from peak DAU levels. Mafia Wars 2 hit a DAU peak 8 days after launch and has gone sideways for the last week; while it is very early in the game’s lifecycle, we view this as a bad sign, particularly given that Empires & Allies, Pioneer Trail, and Adventure World hit peak levels between 5 and 18 days after the initial launch. Only Words With Friends has enjoyed sustained DAU growth (and we note that this was a Facebook port of a popular mobile game that Zynga acquired, i.e. not developed internally at Zynga). In sum, we view the user trends at Zynga as extremely troubling given the apparent lack of organic growth, particularly in front of an IPO that continues to be talked about at rich valuations in the $10B range."

Apparently that was due to a change in the way that monthly users were counted.

Anecdotal evidence:

My mom used to play farmville like 3 hours a day. Now she might play a few hours a week.

Well I do call this audience "fickle" for a reason.

A lot of people probably started with their Wii, then moved to Apple and Facebook once they realized how much money they'd save just by changing. They basically follow trends, and we can probably expect the same once a new hip trend comes about.

Also just realized someone made a thread about this in The Lounge.

I always saw it as a fad, which is why I always wondered why investors were so eager for Nintendo to jump on that horse.

Well some people get to decide Game of the Year 2011 this early in the year. Anything we feel is missing from here? Or is that too early to decide too?

List looks pretty solid I think, though it's hard to vote when 2/5 aren't even released yet.

I think BF3, MW3, and Gears 3 have a (small) claim for being nominees, though.

Just in case - My post does link to something indicating that those games will be made available via PSN.

If I had to vote right now I'd have to pick Arkham City. But like you said, 2/5 games aren't out yet so it's too soon to tell. I think BF3 should be on the list, not sure about MW3 as I haven't payed much attention to it.

I'll probably end up ranking them:

#1: Skyrim
#2: Skyward Sword
#3a: Batman: Arkham City
#3b: Uncharted 3
#5: Portal 2

I've only actually played Portal 2 and Arkham City at this point; but I usually have a good feel about how I will end up receiving a game this close to launch.

I'm a little surprised LA Noire didn't creep on there considering the way games media sucks up to Rockstar.

Battlefield 3 is incredible, but I think it plays it too safe to be a Game of the Year contender. It's too bad the only game I've had a chance to play on that list is Portal 2. It had one of the best single-player portions of any game in my recent memory, but I've got a feeling that each of the other games on here might give it a run for its money. I haven't had a chance to play Arkham City yet, but it sounds phenomenal. And then there's Skyward Sword, which I'm hyped for despite largely ignoring it until a couple weeks ago.

There's no way I'm watching the Spike VGA's, though. They're simply mind-numbingly boring.

I've always wondered, is there an official GOTY award? Or does everyone just go with the general consensus of the game magazines and websites?

The latter.

IGN, Gamespot, Joystiq, Kotaku, etc. all give their own GotY awards. There isn't an "official" one.

The Academy is made up of people that make movies, so the closest thing we have is probably the Interactive Achievement Awards.

The latter, i really think the gaming community needs an OFFICIAL GOTY Award to keep things official......like something of the Oscars and the Spike VGAs seems to be the closet thing to that (even though a lot of people disagree with their choice of winners)....just my opinion

I'll save you time.

Whatever's Nintendo wins every category. If there are 2 or more Nintendo titles in a category, preference is shown to the franchise that has been around far too long. 3DS games are also shown preference.

I should know too since the last thread was all about how Super Mario Galaxy 2 deserved it more than Mass Effect 2 or Red Dead Redemption.

Not that I think it's a terrible game, but yeahhhhh

Come on. We have some pretty vocal Sony fanboys as well. Which is kinda ironic given the name of our forums.

They are a vocal minority. I'm assuming a GotY award would be voted upon, so the quantity of Nintendo fanboys would triumph.

I think you made a GOTY thread last year - I could be mistaken.

Also, one last comic - And I'll place it in spoiler tags because this isn't for everyone. I probably should have posted it sometime around Halloween, but I was sorta busy at that time.

Anyway, it's a horror webcomic called 봉천동 귀신 (Bongcheon-Dong Ghost), that was actually made before October but still worth a look if you're into that kinda thing. For best results, have some good speakers or headphones on hand. The noises really enhance the experience.

Spoiler!

Strangely enough, I'm not a part of any forums of that sort.

Oh, and re-post of the comic from a while ago for those like me who view 10 posts a page. I'm interested in reactions for those who haven't seen it.

Spoiler!

Not that I think it's a terrible game, but yeahhhhh
SMG2 is unquestionably better than ME2, and probably better than RDR.

I can honestly say I was not prepared for that. What got me is that I blinked when "it" happened, so when I opened my eyes and heard the sound on my headphones, I was presented with "it."

Freaky stuff, yo. Good find.

Eh. I was hoping for a larger selection of categories; "Best Strategy Game" "Favorite Indie Title" and such. Something that wouldn't be Nintendo-centric by design. But that would most likely end up being the case. Stupid Nintendo fans.

Which is why for any serious video game awards you need to have a panel of intelligent people who decide who wins what and not just have open voting.

You don't really need "intelligent people." I mean it's just opinion.

You just need to cut off people who haven't played all the games from voting.

Probably should have replace "intelligent" with "knowledgeable".

People who have only played one game on the list of nominees and are ignorant of the other options probably shouldn't be selecting the game of the year.

Should we have an intelligence contest?

Considering the circumstances, I would have made the same choices as the girl. Thought for thought.

Well, yeah. Though I highly doubt every member of this forum possesses all three consoles to make such fair judgements. And even if they did possess all the consoles (and also a capable PC), there's a strong chance that they don't have the money to purchase all games.

Then there's personal preference. This guy likes shooters more than this person. And this person is more of an RPG fanatic. The idea is that you could recognize all the merits of whatever game you played, but does that mean that they'll vote for x game over their favorite just because it has more to offer?

Setting up an "ideal" Game of the Year awards event is near impossible, I think.

I was actually referring to Game of the Year awards in general than specifically a forum one.

I trust the Game Developers Choice Awards and the Interactive Achievement Awards far more when it comes to "Game of the Year" than say the Spike VGAs since they are both conducted by people who are knowledgeable about the industry.

Understandable.

Though I'd put Game Developers Awards over Interactive Achievements Awards, if only because I didn't like IAA last year.

Neogaf has a GOTY awards thread, which probably represents a more comprehensive gaming population than this forum.

An official trailer finally, and an official site below. This is headed by Takashi Miike, the guy who provided me my favorites Audition and Ichi the Killer.

Okay - This shouldn't be posted anywhere else in the forum like my last post was. It's an old comic I have saved on my laptop.

Spoiler!

As usual, I do like to read reactions/responses. Do share if this is your first time seeing it.
