Default Power A Offcial 3DS Mic Headset Now On Sale

If there was one accessory I wanted for the 3DS, it was this one (though I wanted it to be PDP who released it). Power A is set to release a headset for the 3DS this November. Here's the marketing spiel:

"A top-notch video game experience deserves audio quality to match, and the Stereo & Chat Headset for Nintendo 3DS fits the bill. It offers great sound quality for games, music and video. One-click music control with the inline remote and a detachable mic boom put the power in your hands, and the fold-flat design lets you easily store the Stereo & Chat Headset when you're on the road. That leaves your hands free for other things - like gaming! PowerA accessories are made to the exact specifications of your console. All products meet or exceed Nintendo's standards for quality and safety. Enhance your gaming experience with cool characters, sleek styles, and superior functionality."

Another list of features:
  • Compact, stylish stereo headset
  • Detachable mic boom for game chat and video-conferencing
  • Designed perfectly to complement the Nintendo 3DS
  • Folds flat for easy portability
  • Adjustable headband for kids or adults
  • Great sound quality for games, music and video
  • 3DS compatible inline remote with one-click music control button (play/pause, track fwd, track back)
  • Official Nintendo Licensed Product

And the best part (at least I think), this is an OFFICIALLY LICENSED NINTENDO PRODUCT.

Here's the link to it so you can check out the design for yourself (it won't let me post the pics): http://www.play.com/Games/DS/4-/24266395/Officially-Licensed-3DS-Stereo-Chat-Headset/Product.html?searchstring=3ds&searchtype=allproduc ts&searchsource=0&searchfilters=s{3ds}%2b&cpage=2& ob=6&urlrefer=search

The only problem now is the fact that there aren't any games out there yet to support it. Heroes of Ruin is on the way, but we haven't heard any news on whether the game will support it or not. Hopefully, other developers might look into supporting mic'd online games

Maybe Mario kart could use it, although then you would have to hear a bunch of little kids screaming stuff like "Haha, pwnd you with that blue shell noob."

I wouldn't care for the feature when playing against others worldwide, but I would love it for playing against friends. I'd be really happy if they could somehow update Mercs to support this

I don't see how the Mic gets worked for an extension on the 3DS...

The DSi's Headphone jack had a lil box plugin to the side of it for a Mic Headset function on it, but the 3DS doesn't have that...

How does the plugin work for the 3DS???

Like this is what I mean.

The plugin for that was to differentiate a headphone from microphone feature.
3DS does not have that.

Maybe the 3DS is smart enough to not need the extra plugin?

Na, the 3DS just has a life unlike the DS's before it. (and most of us here)

Smartphones can take a headset with a microphone in one single 3.5mm audio plug. It's possible to have actual phone conversations with these.

I guess it will work the same way with the 3DS.

It does work the same on 3DS as it does smartphones. I have a pair of headphones with a mic built into the cord. It only has one standard headphone plug.
Both the headphones and mic work on the 3DS as well as cell phones, ipods etc.

you can already get a headset/mic for the 3DS. Mine cost around three dollars on amazon.

This looks great. Now only if we had some games that it would work with. So far, the only game confirmed to have voice chat as a feature is Heroes of Ruin. Seems like a sort of useless accessory unless we get a few more compatible games.

I've tried two pairs of headphones with mics on them and none of them worked with the 3DS sound app. Whether this one will work we don't know either, but I'm not sure all mics will be supported with Heroes of Ruin. They could just decide to use this one only

Yeah. Getting pwned by little kids is bad enough when you don't have to listen to smack talk.

This couldn't be for a surprise 3DS feature in the November update, could it?
It comes out on November 4 (the accessory not the update) could audio and video chat be included, along with messaging features?

Default Officially Licensed 3DS Headset Revealed, Priced and Dated

Officially Licensed 3DS Headset Revealed, Priced and Dated - 3DS News @ Nintendo Life

"The headset's set for release in Europe on 4th November for an RRP of ?24.99. There's no North American date yet, but you're looking at around $29.99."

"Compact, stylish stereo headset
Detachable mic boom for game chat and video-conferencing
Designed perfectly to complement the Nintendo 3DS
Folds flat for easy portability
Adjustable headband for kids or adults
Great sound quality for games, music and video
3DS compatible inline remote with one-click music control button (play/pause, track fwd, track back)"

So what do you think? Will you end up buying this? Will we see more than just a few titles with voice chat so it can actually get some use? Or do you think this will end up like Wii Speak or the DS headset, just wont be supported by enough games?

Nintendo isn't making this.
Also it was announced ~ a month and a half ago. I saw it on the PowerA website.

No but it's licensed by them as their 'official' headset.

Looks like you plug the mic in either separately or with the headphones.

I was excited about this periheral until it tried my regular mic'd headphones with 3DS sound again and they worked........
Well, saved me $20.

It annoys me that the 3DS is already compatible with mic'd headsets and Capcom didn't look into supporting the feature with the Mercs 3D, the game most in need of it. That game was already a slim package.....

Cool Official 3ds headset on sale!

Priced at $29.99, the Power A 3ds headset is available now available in the U.S! So far, I've only seen it available online at the Power A website and (strangely) at Toysrus.

Power A Headset for Nintendo 3DS - Power A - Toys "R" Us

Stereo & Chat Headset

Let the reviews commence.

Cool, but I don't see why anyone should buy it now. Which games have audio chat enabled?

The site says that it will be useful for video conferences. I wonder if that's going to be a surprise release by Nintendo or (the most likely) that statement was a bit dodgy.

I know this thread is EXTREMELY old but, I was wondering if anyone here has these headphones AND Mario Kart 8. I'm asking cause I want to know if these headphones are compatible with Wii U voice chat capable games.
