Default This game is really frustrating...

Is it just me, or are the Special Worlds immensely hard? I find them a bit difficult and it's basically gathering dust. And I'm only on SWorld 6-Castle -___-
Anyone else feel frustrated at these levels?

Yes i feel supremely frustrated when playing the Special Worlds.

They are bloody ass annoying
After i finished the special worlds and everything i swore to myself never to play the special worlds again.

Thats what actually ruined the game experience for me.

Oh c'mon guys, they weren't THAT hard. The only annoying part was getting the comet coins there.

They didn't frustrate me as much as I thought they would, I didn't really find them hard. They were pretty challenging, but nothing that made me rage quit. Quite a few of them had me trying again and again though.

in my honest opinion, it is challenging like i lost 10-20+ or (even 30 i think) lives just to finish some levels... what is more challenging is getting those star coins...i mean seriously, i almost lost a lot of lives by just retrying to get those star coins

i actually like the difficulty for special worlds...

it will be even more challenging beating your time in speed runs...

i don't call it hard... it is just challenging...

Hmm, I don't mean to show off at all, but I found most levels extremely easy up to S-8.

I think it's a good balance. They are hard enough to not be a cake walk but not so hard you beat your head against it and give up. Nintendo doesn't always accomplish this. Some of the Metroid game "hard mode" stuff has been "are you kidding me?" level in my experience.

People like you is why everyone think Mario should be an easy game that you could beat within a day. Mario used to be really hard when he was on the NES and as the years went by he became one of the easiest game series. I'm glad Nintendo brought the challenging factor in the Mario games again.

Everything was hard on the NES. The NES Metroid and Zelda games are also the most difficult entries in the series.

The levels with the little Ghost Mario really ticked me off. I just wanted to stomp his guts out. I think it did add a nice challenge twist.

Personally, I have found the old Mario games (the ones on the NES and SNES) quite easy.

I know, but unlike Zelda and Metroid, Mario didn't keep the difficulty at the same level and downgraded it alot. I finished both Galaxy games in ONE DAY, 2 with all 240 stars.

I'd rather play a game that takes time and strategy to beat rather than a game that walks you by your hand the whole time.
*glares menacingly at the recent Pokemon games*

Anyway, yes, the Special World levels are much tougher than the Regular World levels, and I greatly appreciate that.

I get extremely frustrated with each special level but I feel this insane sense of accomplishment when I beat one.

So, although I get frustrated, I feel really good. o.O; Its definitely an improvement on how ridiculously easy most Mario games were up until this point, at least to me.

When I first picked it up and started playing I kept thinking.... "Omg... This is so easy it's stupid. And what's with this stupid special invincible suit you get if you suck?" But then it was like "omfg I miss that suit so much because these levels are sooo hard."

I really like the special worlds, they feel more like a Mario game than the others do IMO. Except 3-5 I could not get the damn rythem right and I was too lazy to go and her a tanookie suit

The first 8 worlds were really, really easy. Nintendo probably wanted to give us "core" gamers(people who have been playing, or played and love the older Mario's) some love as well.

That said, I didn't find them hard, but they were a nice challenge...a very refreshing change from the first few worlds of SML3D and well...every Mario game since Galaxy.

I honestly didn't think it was that hard of a game. The special worlds were challenging at some points, but if you've played your fair share of platformers, it isn't too bad.

The only world that seemed to really frustrate me was the very last special world, other than that the regular and special worlds were quite easy

I feel like the OP gets it right in the title when he labels some of the special worlds frustrating. The game is frustrating rather than hard in the later levels. Many times I just feel that the game developers felt like, 'oh so the red/blue flip platforms adds quite some challenge to the game, so why don't we just place an awful number of them just to frustrate the players and make the game seem challenging', rather than actually putting thought into level design.

After they did that, 'cosmic mario looks like a good way to extend some replay, so why don't we add cosmic mario to all those stages with all those red/blue flip platforms so people will think we did some real clever design into making the game so difficult!' and stuff like that.

Nah, maybe if your trying to collect all the medals, other than that, I think when it comes to Mario games people vary from each other in skill, some people are bad at certain levels, some are good. You either got it or you don't. Besides, the tanooki suit makes everything easier.

Hang in there, I was stuck on a S level more than once and I persevered.

I suck, I suck bad and I got my 5 profile stars, so if I can do it, anyone can.

The shadow walker levels and the auto-scroll levels were the hardest.

I'd recommend going on youtube and watching walkthrough videos. Search for SullyPwnz = is one of the best also SuperSkamory. I found these videos very helpful.

and have no shiny stars
and i always die more than 5 times
including World 1-1
basically i suck on platformer games
and better with racing games
(as so i think)

Some of the special levels were hard, but mostly, they were in the intermediate range. I'm stuck not halfway through S-8 only because I don't feel like gathering 10 more Star Coins.

The games controls are what get to me. They're rather unresponsive, which makes me make more mistakes. If it was as responsive as Galaxy, I'd have completed this game already.

Not the levels themselves, but getting the Star Coins. I currently have 260 and can`t get to 8-5 S. .-.

i have trouble with the camera angles sometimes in this game. there is definitely a degree of difficulty when trying to jump around.

or maybe i am just not used to it yet. only had it for a couple days and haven't put too much time into it...

Yeah, the special worlds can be aggravating, but then again I'm only on Special World 3.

One of my most aggravating levels was actually the very last normal mode level. For some reason I had a very hard time with that, it's actually one of the most difficult(But not impossible) challenges in a game I've had in awhile.

Some provided a good challenge, yes, and a few that were frustrating, but nothing TOO hard. The challenge lies within good game design, so I don't get mad at it much.

I agree. The quality of a game lies in its gameplay design. Don't hear that very much around these parts. It most certainly is refreshing!

I do have to admit there were some moments in super mario 3d land that i got a tad bit frustrated due to some of the level designs, but the overall fun outshines those minuscule issues.

I HATED that purple ghost mario thing. Especially when he got big.

As for the challenge of the game, when I first started playing it, I was extremely disapointed with how easy it was. I played and beat every single level all the way to world 4 or 5 without losing a single life. The challenge of the special worlds were a welcome treat.

My only problem..... the final level (the one after you get all 5 stars). I cannot beat it. The furthest I can get is the part where you gotta jump on toads head to go down the first warp pipe. I can't for the life of me, land on him. I always overshoot.

I've been stuck on Special World 5 Castle for awhile now. The levels like this where you have to pick up the clocks to keep time are pretty challenging. Even more so if your collecting Star Coins.

The game was really goo dbut very frustrating/boring in the end

I didn't finished it because I'm bored to always come back on old levels just to grab some more coins, to unlock ONE more level and then go back in old levels ........

that's boring end I'm stuck in S8, near the end.

I would love to have the possibility to get coins more easily than just replaying levels I hate again and again and dying again ang again

I now play Resident Evil Revelations and Mario Kart 7 a lot more.

I'll give this game a 7/10, not more, because of that

But gen 2 was stupidly easy!

Also, 3D Land was a good (but not maddening) challenge. The veeeeerry last level had me lose a few hairs, though.

I have to admit it was frustrating and hard. I hated that dark clone that followed you, that even if you try to kill him, he'll come back...

the game was a piece of cake. I even found it boring in some levels. Pass the level withou trying to win those big coins is the easyest thing in the world, but if you want to win everything you have to be more patient. As many people already said, it was a bit chalenging but not hard.

I'm not saying it's "hard" or "easy", I'm saying it's boring, and in the end, to go to the last stages you have to play again and again the same levels ...

Speak for yourself, I passed them with both Mario and Luigi. Yes, Special World 8-Crown as well.

It's different for everyone I guess. Some parts were hard. But isn't that the point? A suitable level of challenge? As long as you enjoy the game, story, graphics etc? I know I did.

But the shadow walker and timer levels were the worst I have to admit. *grr*

It wasn't hard, merely annoying. I got all 5 stars, and the hard part was to resist the urge to smash my 3DS into 5 pieces. Especially those last levels where the floor dissapears, and Black Mario is chasing you.

They're not super hard but I hate the speed levels where you start with like 10 seconds and have to keep collecting time. Didn't they do that for the first castle in the special worlds or something? I liked the original worlds better.

I'd just say it's repetitive. The Special worlds definitely weren't as creative as the first 8 worlds. Plus once you 5 star it I don't see the point in playing it anymore

In my first playthrough of the game I went through the entire game trying to carry two tanooki suits through the regular worlds and get all the star coins in each level. I wouldn't move on to the next level without getting the coins. It paid off in the future. I did this same thing for the special worlds.

In terms of difficulty I thought the Special Worlds were a bit challenging but not challenging enough to make me throw my 3DS across the room. As long as you carry two silver tanooki suits during the special worlds you should be fine during the levels. Getting all the coins did prove to be the most challenging of all, though. That was the thing that got me really mad and worked up in the Special Worlds. Other than that, I thought the game had a perfect difficulty level and I enjoyed every bit of the game. Now on my second playthrough I'm trying to get the special five stars you get in the game for beating it on special conditions.

Really? I actually felt the opposite about the special worlds. Like I found the normal levels harder than the special levels, BUT in saying that I'm not normally a Mario gamer(sually play kart or any other mario affiliated game that is not solely mario adventure based game). I actually thought the coin placement in the special worlds were a little more obvious than the original worlds.

After one convention's worth of streetpassing I went though all the levels again and beat the other folk's best times. After another convention I lost best time on a bunch of levels again but damn, it was hard enough the first time, I don't think I want to beat my head against a wall doing this. I managed to get 999 star coins, right now I'm letting streetpasses reactivate all the surprise boxes and mushroom houses, then I'm going to put the game away for good.

Ahh see there aren't many conventions in Australia and no one at my university has a 3ds so I barely get street pass hits. Plus when I do their times usually suck
