I'm feeling kinda thrifty... gonna tear up my Namco stick and see if I can do a Saturn pad hack. :]

Full Sanwa too. Why not?

Added after 2 Hours 6 minutes:

Easy part is done. Sanwa buttons are in, PCB from an old Saturn pad is in.

Still needs wiring, still needs some labor before I can fit a JLF inside.

Stuff to note:

Characters exclusive to the console ports of Vampire Savior are in. In this regard, the game is BETTER than arcade-perfect. Donovan, Huitzl and Pyron.

Contrary to what many sites are reporting, this is NOT Darkstalkers 1 and Vampire Savior. It's Night Warriors and Vampire Savior. Night Warriors is the second Darkstalkers game.

Challenge combos are back, having been absent from recent GGPO releases MvCO and JoJo. Probably only for VS, if I had to guess. 5 combos per character, just like 3SO.

Things you should know if you've never played VS

Hunter Chains
Similar to the magic series chains that emerged out of the Marvel series, Darkstalkers has a unique chain cancelling combo mechanic shared by it's entire roster. A hunter chain is a series of normals of ascending values which cancel into eachother under two conditions: you can only cancel from weak to strong (jab to fierce, NOT fierce to jab) and same strength punch into same strength kick (meaning you can cancel jab into short but NOT short into jab).

Brief review.

The following chains ARE POSSIBLE
s. jab xx cr. strong xx s. roundhouse
cr. forward xx s. fierce xx cr. roundhouse

The following chains ARE NOT POSSIBLE
cr. strong xx s. jab xx s. roundhouse
cr. forward xx cr. roundhouse xx s. fierce

You cannot chain into specials. You generally chain into a knockdown for oki setups.

Hunter chains work pretty much the same for everyone. However, the chains won't necessarily combo because the longer your chain gets, the further your opponent is pushed back. So jab xx short xx strong xx forward xx fierce xx roundhouse works in theory, but you'll find that it pushes back too far for like the forward to hit, usually. So keep em short and sweet.

More later. Let me know if you have any questions and/or if you find this helpful.

Added after 19 minutes:

Just to clarify something, you can cancel any punch into any kick provided you do not violate the first circumstance listed above. So...

POSSIBLE
cr. strong xx s. forward (works because it progresses from punch to kick when at same strength)
s. short xx cr. fierce (works because you are going weak to strong, does not matter here that you are going kick to punch instead of punch to kick because of this.)

NOT POSSIBLE
s. forward xx cr. strong (same strength but goes from kick to punch)
cr. fierce xx s. short (does not work because even though you're going punch to kick you're progressing in the wrong direction, from stronger to weaker)

Demitri is the shoto of this game. Talbain is the easy hit confirm into super. They're both really, really good characters to learn VS with.

Stuff VS has:
Air blocking
Push blocking
Guard cancels
Dashing/air dashing
EX moves
Frankenstein
Reversals
Supers
OTGs... sort of! Not in the way you're thinking.
Red health
Rolls (wake up)
Throw techs

Stuff VS does not have:
Dizzy/Stun
Guard break
Wolverine

More to come.

Added after 19 minutes:

So, some of the things I've listed above may seem surprising. Specifically, I wonder if "red health" caught your eye.

Whenever you deal damage in VS, you also deal an amount of red health. Red health is recovered overtime, but it counts as damage. If you have 30 health left and ate hit with an attack that does 14 damage and 16 red health, you'll lose the round.

While red health restores gradually over time, it recovers much, much faster if the player suffering from red health goes on the offensive. As you may imagine, VS is insanely fast paced.

Let's say in Street Fighter 4 you land an incredible comeback with the smallest pixel of health. Next round, you're good as new. You and your opponent reset with full health, on even ground. In VS... not so. In between rounds, you do not restore health in VS.

Yeah we should talk about pushblocking. So like in Marvel, if you're getting rushed down, pushblocking is vital to evening the stakes a bit. (this is a huge handicap for Anakaris)

If any of you guys play Blanka, Chun, Honda or Gen in SF4 you may understand that your character has a piano move. Think Chun's legs, Blanka's Electricity, and Gen and Honda's slaps. The way pianoing works is that, each of these specials requires 5 inputs (punch, kick, whatever) to activate. If you press the same punch button five times with Blanka, he's going to do electricity.

The big idea is that it doesn't matter what the first 4 inputs are - it is the final, 5th input that dictates which version of electricity Blanka uses. So, LP LP LP LP HP will activate his HP electricity. LP MP LP MP MP+HP will be EX electricity. Make sense? It's because of the way that this works that people use a technique called pianoing, where you rhythmically tap out 5 buttons as quickly as possible with the 5th input being whichever version of the special you want to get. The piano I do in SF4 for chun is:
LK HK MK LK HK

It has a nice rhythm to it. And it allows you to reliably get the move out, instead of mashing which is completely unreliable.

OK, back to Vampire Savior.

So as you might imagine from this lengthy explanation of pianoing, pushblocking in VS uses the same mechanic. It does not matter what buttons you push during block stun, it is the 3rd (or 6th) button that dictates how far from you your opponent is pushed back. So jab strong fierce would give you the max distance for a pushblock.

...

...

Possibly.

What? POSSIBLY?
Yup! The likelihood that a pushblock will actually happen at all is dictated by the number of inputs you use.
1-2 inputs = 0%
3 inputs = 25%
4 inputs = 50%
5 inputs = 75%
6 inputs = 100%

Obviously then, you should practice a 6 button piano input. Anything that's comfortable to you works - there's no "good piano" or "bad piano" - well, I guess a bad piano is one that doesn't work. Since I learned to piano with Chun, I'll probably be practicing a modified version of that tech I listed above. Maybe short roundhouse forward roundhouse short roundhouse. But whatever works for you, works for you.

Good work, man! If you're having trouble with Iron Fist's mission 10, I recorded it back in November.

Well, I'm not so much having trouble with IF's 10th, just a mis time on the Air HS connector to H c.H b.H And I've never attempted Chun's 10th.

Cooling off from mission mode for a while, just doing some Arcade shenanigans. Maybe I'll try to get all that BBCSEX data that got corrupted T________T

Aside from watching the excellent video Volatile put up may I suggest trying one if not all of these 3 characters: Kyo, Ryo, & Terry I wouldn't go as far as calling them the shotos of the game but they are excellent when it comes to mastering the basics, Terry in particular.

Apparently BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma is out in Japanese arcades. It has a faster pace to it, and has an X-Factor like "Overdrive" but that boost only goes to the end of a combo, as opposed to time.

Some footage:

As far as a roster goes, the playable characters (although I don't know if you can play all of them straight from the start or if their even playable in the arcade version) include:
* Ragna the Bloodedge
* Jin Kisaragi
* Noel Vermillion
* Tsubaki Yayoi
* Iron Tager
* Bang Shishigami
* Litchi Faye Ling
* Arakune
* Taokaka
* Rachel Alucard
* Valkenhayn R Hellsing
* Makoto Nanaya
* Platinum the Trinity
* Carl Clover
* Relius Clover
* Amane Nishiki
* Azrael
* Bullet
* Hazama
* Mu-12
* Nu-13
* Izayoi

I'm pretty lucky, as my fight night in MA has a great Soul Calibur community, a pretty decent P4A community, and even a half dozen or so people who play VF. One of our VF players made top 16 at EVO2012, and one of our SC players made top 32!

Most people play Marvel and SF of course, but it's really nice to be able to play just about anything.

Yeah I've seen people use these. I've heard they make 720s easier, but afaik are banned in some games as they allow you to simultaneously block in both directions, which obviously eliminates the cross-up game

I don't think its even possible to block in both directions in Tekken. Cross setups are much harder than most games in Tekken.

EVO 1day event. Dwindling # of players/scene - Tekken Zaibatsu Forums

So the Tekken scene is basically smaller than I can ever remember. I've been in the scene for 10 years now, playing tournaments and such. I remember when we used to get 117+ people entering for Evo qualifiers in Chicago, now we are lucky to pull 20.

I've mentioned this before but it keeps becoming more apparent, Tekken is just too damn hard, and TTT2 was the absolute worst game to introduce new comers to the series. Although arcades are dead the fighting game scene is still thriving in other ways like streaming and online. Tekken however continues to be incredibly stagnant.

I say TTT2 is the worst choice for Namco because the last thing the series needed was to encourage people to play 2 characters, learn an added in more complicated system from six ( Bound ), and learn new tag systems from TTT2 ( Tag Crash, Tag assaults, red bar health, different breakable stage combos, far harder timing and planning for juggles ).

Tekken 7 needs to go back to 1v1, and I think it needs less characters, and maybe even ditch bound entirely.

The fact is all these easier fighting games get people to play them, and Tekken will never do that unless it settles just a little bit.

The fighting game community is an absolute joke now. Me and a bunch of long time fighting game friends have been trying to figure out any way to revive it here in Milwaukee but not a single thing seems like a viable way. Depressed. I've been doing tournaments and traveling for over a decade now and it's a shadow of its former self. Really sad.

Even I am guilty of falling off.

my offline scene is pretty solid... for capcom. it's just me and one other guy who play VF for hours every week. lucky for me, he's really good.

i need to travel to play in tournaments. last year I went to CA and NYC and it seems like i'll be back in CA at the end of next month for SCR2014. wish i lived closer to NYC so i could attend the monthlies at next level.

06./00. [PS3] Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign <FTG> (Arc System Works) {2014.12.04} (?7.538) - 27.278 / NEW
16./00. [PS4] Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign # <FTG> (Arc System Works) {2014.12.04} (?7.538) - 12.638 / NEW

Both figures from Media Create. It hasn't been a full week, but Guilty Gear seems dead

Now that I look at street fighter V, it seems more towards the casual with the combo system, kind of like how one would compare Melee and smash 4 in smash bros. Or is it just me?

Who knows. They commented they weren't even halfway done with development though. The trailer was probably just made so they had something to show, rather than to showcase what to expect I'd say.

Tekken is def going for a little more of the casual crowd w/ T7, but I'm happy with that since it was a hard game to get into.

In Capcom Pro Cup they showed Mike Doss and Combofiend playing the demo for the first time. I don't know if you have seen that

So as I mentioned above about T7 trying to go for the casual market, this one I'm a little upset about:
http://www.avoidingthepuddle.com/new....html#comments

No longer need to read the arms.... which really wasn't super hard before if you just paid attention. I guess we'll see, if it helps Tekken get some more players I might be able to live with it. Liked how it was though.
