I think we've outgrown the regular marvel thread, lets just keep all discussion of fighters that require quarter circle motions to play in this thread.
all other discussions of "fighting" games or preschool fighters like smash brothers can go to their thread.
also i'd like to keep a list of the main players and what games they play and on what console to facilitate trash talking.

I play on 360 and primarily play SSFIVAE and umvc3. my umvc3 team rotates regularly but have been maining chun in SFIV since 2009.

my gamertag is really bad art.

I'd like to play more TvC, and can retrieve my wii fc when I get home.

I practiced TVC again tonight, I used to play with a classic controller but now i'm playing with my stick, I can't do all my combos I used to do and I press Forward M too soon after launch.

I like seimitsu better because it is the closest feel to Happ buttons without sacrificing inputs. I was raised on arcades.

it's reversed - my tvc stick has sanwa buttons and a clunky metallic seimitsu joystick. I don't think I'd be able to slide on seimitstu buttons.

also, my sf2 cab has happ competition buttons. I like 'em.

I'm pretty much on the same boat about SCV, I'm looking to getting skullgirls and Tekken vs street fighter first. mostly because one of my regular fighting partners is a beat in soul calibur (he said he was Texas ranked at 2) so pretty much our soul calibur nights will be spent fighting for 2nd place

nah, I think you have better chance of seeing Blueballz show up at SBO (Super Battle Opera). It never had a chance at EVO cause of its name and what it tries to be...... all those years back.

Yea, I'm looking forward to readjusting to online yet again for SCV (viola fail time xD and hopefully the SC players on my friend list, might come back and play a bit) and Tekken 3D (get that Xiaoyu on). Hope it uses a nerfed rage system, I know they won't take that crap out.......... So I can not hope for it being totally removed.

As much as I like BlazBlue, the community just isn't there anymore. At least, not like it was for CT. Hopefully the new release comes out soon before it dwindles even further...

it sucks to have only 1 person to play local matches in blazblue within 30 miles. and even then we just kinda stopped when CS 2 came out. I wanna blame mahvel for it but we might as well just be burned out from playing each other so damn much.

I'm not too keen on fighters that aren't crossover types. But I have played pretty much as many crossover ones I've been able to get my hands on (shame I haven't been able to get any of the SNK crossovers, it pisses me off) As far as MvC goes, I've played all the installments, but I only have those three I mentioned above available to me.

I've already versed Holmeboy and Jackz, as well j_phoenix, Snail and I'm taking a guess and saying Kikae here on the forums.

One thing that's always bugged me, is whenever Holmes does the High Tide OTG after an air combo with Vergil, he never tries to finish it up with Air Dimension Slash. Heh, maybe that's just me.

You can't do it as soon as it happens though. You need to wait at least until Vergil is about to get maximum height on the High Tide. Anything after that seems fine.

i've been trying to get spencer's zip line combo extenders down, but then I got bored and learned nova's fly/unfly combo and dorms blackhole combo.

went to the arcade today (30 to 40 minute drive, but it was worth it) pretty much spent the day there playing mahvel and BBCSEX. god I got rusty at BB if anyone is up for some BB matches I am pretty free right now. there was a severe lack of KOF13 unfortunately but at least they had the new Tekken Tag cabinets, 1 dollar a credit though :G

Nah, can't get a good vibe for Nova, need a new character.

It's just his hypers punish any red he had away, and I simply cannot adapt to such play style. Can't get a good entry with him without using any assistance either.

Taking it apart piece by piece should help; you should absolutely take the time to learn that Nova combo. The LMHS MMHS sequence is one shared by most of the cast, and learning to time the flight cancel to continue the air combo will help you out greatly.

And if it's any consolation, Mahvel isn't a bad place to start for those interested in taking fighting games more seriously. This is because the vs. series is more reliant on button input than stick input, and the combo system uses far more chain cancels than links. Good combos should be more easily accessible to beginners in UMvC3 than SSFIV.

That said, I wholly concede that combos themselves are more important to vs. games than they are to SF.

so i've been playing a ton of vampire savior and hnnnng i love this game

regardless of what you think of the gameplay, it probably has some of the best art in a Capcom game (pretty much only rivaled by SF3 and SFA2, and possibly a few others)

liked the gameplay just wasn't playing like that around the time the game came out originally. Unlike my friend that was around the time that it came out and he was very good at it.

so strider is really fun to play but I have difficulty doing more than 600k damage without using his lv 3. does his strength lie in mix ups or am I missing something big with his combo potential?

I find Strider to be more of an ultra offensive type "stay on yo ass until you crack under the pressure and block wrong" character than a big damage combo one, or at least that's how he was in Marvel 2.

To me, he needs the right assists that allow him to do so:
Assists the emit heavy pressure + Strider all over the place = mindf***ed player

correct, Strider is VERY reset centric. most people put him as anchor but I believe he would work best on point to have assists provide some cover.

those sticks only last for a bit, If I remember right. You can change the buttons on that stick though. It is modable. The normal buttons start to die from heavy play after a few months. It isn't bad for a hori though.

if you'd have waited I would've just told you to get an MC cthulhu and or a TE Kitty for your current stick and dual mod it so you can use it in all consoles.

here are some of the matches from yesterday, my cameraman sucked so he didn't even record most of the **** that happened, if you don't like to hear us rambling about Moms, Juicy Pants, Macdonalds or other small escapades I recommend you mute the videos. also be forewarned that there is plenty of raunchy and borderline racist remarks on the videos.

it was a pretty low turn out, and it's mostly a gathering of fighting fans than it is the usual fight nights so no tournaments unless you count the cheeseburger matches.

Try Sentinel/Morrigan/Phoenix. Play keep away with Sent by using his H and cr.H and drop cr.M when they get around midscreen. Your goal with Sent here is to basically cover Morrigan's meter build assist which you should be calling constantly as long as it's safe. When you have about 4.75 bars of meter, hard tag Phoenix in.

When playing Phoenix, drop TK Trap L and TK Trap M. Use your teleport frequently. NEVER use meter, NEVER use X Factor.

I mean, I hope they get some of the "bad guys" from the fighting game community in particular to participate.

I honestly believe that FP Champ just wears Beats around his neck for the sake of "looking cool". Out of all the many many many times I've seen him walk around with them on his neck, I have yet to see them on his head.

So now that I've got a competent joystick for the PS2 I have been playing the hell out of CvS2 and SFA:Anthology. Honestly, now that I can play them comfortably, they're like whole new games. As silly as that sounds.

All the SFA games are pretty good but there doesn't seem to be a good reason to get into SFA1 since SFA2 does everything it did better. A3 is a completely different beast and even though it's packed tight with an enormous roster and an interesting "groove"-like system I prefer the simplicity of SFA2. It's much less busy, the soundtrack is better and I can throw with >fierce/roundhouse. I hope to spend more time with 2 and 3 and I'll probably never play SFA1 again (except maybe for the story sequences?).

One thing I've noticed with SFA:A and CvS2 is that I keep accidentally activating negative edge. Not sure if it's the games or the controller, but it's no biggie.

CvS2 is a lot to take in, but the amount of content the community has provided for the game has me excited to get all caught up in it. Haven't played it as much as the Alpha series just yet.

Added after 7 minutes:

Oh I forgot to mention that the sprite-work in the Alpha series is pretty amazing. Some characters look better than others (Adon's sprite is so good!) and the backgrounds in A2 and A3 are great. A1 pallet-swaps some stages which irks me and some of A2's are a bit empty, but overall the whole series looks really really good.

Also the block sound in A1 is awful.

Played a bit of KOFXI and I'm a bit bewildered by some of the mechanics (such as the difference between a super cancel and a dream cancel). I'm also a little bugged by the console port's issues - not having a random select option on the character screen means that not only do I have to select the team leader and the order of my training dummies, but i have to individually select all 3 each time I switch my team. Also, what is the standard NEO GEO button layout? LP LK SP SK or LP SP LK SK?

the mechanics of XI are real close to XIII. so once you figure them out you'll be able to jump into XIII easy.

also practice your 4 kinds of jumps, nothing is sadder than a KOF player who can't hop or Hyper Hop

Not sure how they work in MK, but in Tekken you can cancel moves or actions to quickly do a different move / block ect.

depends on the game and type of cancel, in KOF XIII a HD or Drive Cancel are used for extending combos, or to make a devastating HD combo. in MVC3 GUILTY GEAR or BLAZBLUE a Xfactor/Roman/Rapid cancel can be used as defense to cancel out an unsafe block string, to counter a block string or to to extend combos.

cancels do many things they are used in combos, to cause mix ups, and can also make some moves safe. A cancel pretty also ends the animation of the previous move to the next move you have input. Like for example in ST cr.mk Fireball with Ryu or in UMK3 jab, tap block and it will cancel the jab go into block.

but some moves can't be cancelled.

no, unfortunately. I missed NEC quite awhile back (like 04-05). I did meet some other players way after that.I was also in college during the time.
