Default Super Mario 64 3D on 3DS

I really want to see remake of Super Mario 64 in 3D on 3DS! What do you think about that?

My God... why do people want so many remakes? I understand buying them if they're out, a good game's a good game, but don't ask for them. You can bet Nintendo would put a good team and a decent amount of time and money in a remake of one of their own games, and that's time, money and a good team that could be put to use on something new. Seriously, look back on past consoles and handhelds and tell me how many system-defining games have been remakes and how many were original games?

That was a release title for the DS. Why would you possibly want that on your next-gen handheld?

And besides, we've had way more than enough Mario titles on the system as is (not to mention lazy remakes and ports). Let's make some games for the 16+ demographic now, mmkay?

I would love it : I didn't bought it on the DS because of the lack of circle pad.

Now, with the circle pas, improved graphics, 3D ans maybe some new levels that could be a blast.

However some "super mario all stars" compilation with 3D classics from "super mario bros" to "mario 64" on one cartidge would be amazing.

For some reason, I just felt horribly embarrassed reading OP's post.

Also, NO. NO, NO, and NO.
Super Mario 64's been milked.
Remake's been milked.
3D's being milked.

Damn cows everywhere.

No thank you. We need more quality titles like Revelations, Nano Assault, Dead or Alive Dimensions, and other games I'm forgetting. I don't want a remake of some overrated game that has already been ported and you can easily play on your 3DS right now.

Do not want on 3DS.

You know you can play DS games on the 3DS right?
Then you'll be able to use the CP.

Yea and if anything, this game would be the perfect example of how awesome the c-pad is for going back to a bunch ds games that could use it.

If they didn't already remake it on the DS then yeah, maybe a remake could be justified sometime. But, it's already been remade on the previous handheld. So no, it won't happen.
You can still play SM64DS on the 3DS for the circle pad.

Do we really need another remake on the 3DS?
If it was a really old game that hadn't had any remakes then fine, maybe but we have SMG4 DS.

This was one of the worst games in the series, to me, I definitely don't want to see it again. Something along the lines of a sequel, I'm all for, but no more got damn remakes.

Would be nice to have on the eShop, but seems unlikely when you can still buy Mario 64 on DS.

Super Mario 64 DS was the worst remake of any game I've ever played. The controls were unresponsive, the graphics were the grainiest ever on DS, and they added and changed things that made it even worse; like multiple characters and those unneeded 30 extra stars.
I would like to see a proper remake. Something that doesn't try to make it better. Because the game was already great. However I don't think they should make it a $40 3DS cartridge game either. It should be downloadable for about $6 or $7.

I'd rather see those games Geist and Sanity's Requiem.

Never played 'em, but I've heard a lot of things.

I may have suggested SM64 3D awhile ago, but with another main Mario game on the way, it's now pretty unnecessary. Besides, SM64 DS is still on the market, and that can be played on the 3DS, so there's really no use for it.

If there's going to be another Nintendo 64 game remade in 3D, it should be for a series that isn't on the platform yet, like F-Zero X, Donkey Kong 64, or Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

It's readily available for both the Wii virtual console and for the original DS. Those are also far cheaper alternatives than potentially paying full price for a 16 year old game. Why bother when both of Nintendo's newest systems can already play it?

The 3DS is cluttered with ports, remakes and upcoming Mario games. Let's try to break that pattern a little bit.

Nintendo would have a second remake for this game. Also Nintendo would have to add all the 3D features to it. (Which probably takes pretty long for them)

Just buy it for the DS and play it on the 3DS.

It's not that I am against but...
It would be cool if
1. it was an eshop download for cheap (i.e 10$ or less - it's even better if it's 5$ or less).
2. not a "SM64 DS 3DS" remake. (i.e. no mini-games, no yoshi, luigi & wario)
3. it's only a graphical + 3D remake.

If you really want to play SM64 on your 3DS, just play SM64DS. For me, I'm able to beat the game 100% between 5 and 6 hours. So... that being a commercial game would be like... MEH. I would have absolutely no interrest because of the sheer amount of time I've played this game through. Heck, it's a game of my childhood.

Bottom line, if it's threated like a 3D Classic, OK, but it's REALLY NOT worth a commercial release.

But it can be much improved. Lets face it: the N64 was great, but the graphics werent good and the control stick was rather unresponsive. The DS remake of this game had the same thing only worse. Sure, Mario's face looked a bit better in DS than it did in 64, but getting the terrible graininess in exchange was not an even trade. And don't even get me started on how horrible the control schemes were. You just can't navigate a proper 3D space with an 8-directional D-pad, and the touchscreen target kept moving, making it impossible to keep running for very long.

Still, grainy graphics and bad controls.

I agree. If they are going to remake it they should remake it right, and not make us blow $40 on a game that just has new graphics.

3D Classic, maybe. But I would really like to see it rebuilt like Ocarina of Time 3D. Still for download, but not just the original game with original graphics in 3D.

That would be ridiculously stupid.

I'd prefer to go back in time, erase the existence of 64 DS, and THEN remake the original on the 3DS. I like remakes and I love Super Mario 64, sue me.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people are getting tired of these remakes. I wouldn't mind a sequel returning back to it's roots or a new galaxy game for the 3ds.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mario 64. But there are two faults here:
1. Nintendo would never do it
2. It is a bad idea

It's already on 3 formats (N64, Wii, DS), and you can play it on your 3DS. The fact that you want a remake of a remake from LAST GENERATION that can still be played on the current generation is absurd.

Thats... a terrible idea. We JUST had that game remade, you could already play it on the 3ds, theres enough remakes as it is, it's just the most ppointless thing ever

64DS didn't count. It wasn't a remake. It was a "Lets take this popular old game, slap some new characters and some new levels on it, add some cheap minigames and make a buck"; not a "Lets remake this game right: the way it was meant to be."

Besides, how many remakes were there for Ocarina of Time? Besides the original, there was 2 on GameCube, the downloadable one on Wii, and the 3D version. That's 5. And even counting 64DS the number of remakes for Super Mario 64 is only 3.
And then there's the fact that Virtual Console downloads are not remakes, just re-releases. So that brings them both down to just 2.

My point: It's been 8 years since the last actual "remake" (on DS), which wasn't even a proper one. And the VC version on Wii has been out for a while, and is just the original game, only downloadable. I think they should do what they did for Ocarina of Time. Now I, probably more than anyone, want a new Mario game, rather than a remake; and absolutely DO NOT want to pay full price for a remake. But I think this would be worth remaking either for download, or as a cheap cartridge game (Like $20-$25). And nothing added! I want the original game, just with better graphics.

Learn what a remake is.
The ONLY "remake" you listed for Ocarina was the 3DS version. Master Quest was a special edition thing, while Collectors Edition and the Virtual Console version are simply ports. Not to mention that Super Mario 64 DS added more to the original game than any of these.

Also, don't point to a game that's been milked to its grave like Ocarina and treat it as a standard.

my rule for remakes is, if i can play it on the newest system, it doesnt need to be released again. once the newest system cannot play DS games id welcome another ocarina 3D style remake, better graphics, a more challenging "Master Quest" mode (stars are in different places, more enemies, etc) and the option to play as the 4 characters in 64DS.

Another Ocarina remake? Ugh... Seriously. It's been milked enough. Let it rest in peace. It's not *that* great anymore by today's standards.

I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt and listing even the ports. I guess I should have specified that better. I know Master Quest was special edition. Master Quest on GameCube also had the original version included.
And I believe I said:

And then there's the fact that Virtual Console downloads are not remakes, just re-releases. So that brings them both down to just 2.
And the things they added to 64DS were terrible. Come on! I don't want to play a 3 other people. It's a Super Mario game, your supposed to play as mainly Mario, and sometime Luigi. I'll admit, the minigames were fun, but I wouldn't think it any different with or without them. They really changed some levels too. Tick-Tock Clock and Whomps Fortress come to mind. They added new platforms near the bottom, making it harder to die. Which takes the challenge out of it.

IF it does get remake, I'll buy it only for $20 at full retail price. But who heard of a handheld mario game that costs only $20?

when did i mention another ocarina remake? i was talking about SM64, which also doesnt need a remake anytime soon, perhaps i misspoke, i meant to say a remake in the style of ocarina 3D, not another ocarina 3D

I'd rather have a remake if there would be a "plus" mode. Like an all new Peaches Castle, and all new stages. Even if they're edits of the same stages with new missions and stuff. That would be awesome because 3DS supports 4GB of storage. Hopefully thy can fit information worth 2 Super Mario 64's.

Then play the original on the 64 or on the VC.

I understand the next person might respond to this negatively, but these are just my ideas and opinions.

SM64's remake could've surpassed the original if it didn't try to change it so much. Plus, the fact that you had to control the game with a +Control Pad or the touch screen didn't help it either.

Now if they made a remake on the 3DS, it would probably do better than SM64DS, and definitely boost 3DS sales. I'm no business expert, by any means, but I'd buy it for the nostalgia (like Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D), and as for younger gamers... it's Mario.

If they were to remake SM64 again, however, there would have to be some changes that involve both the original AND the DS version. I personally would like the game to be a mixture of the two. Only play as Mario, and let Luigi be unlocked after beating the game, bring back the Vanish and Metal Caps, and keep all the added levels/bosses from SM64DS while making them independant of Yoshi's fire/Mario's balloon/etc. Those are just my ideas, but they're based on what made SM64 good in the first place, the few areas where SM64DS shined, and where both of them fell short.

...but having said that, it really doesn't matter. No matter how much we may want another remake, the last remake of the game was on the last-generation handheld, and it's definitely too soon for Nintendo to want to remake it again. I imagine someday they will, but it just isn't gonna happen on the 3DS, and it might not even happen on the Wii U.
*Edit* Then again, SM64 was released in 1996, and SM64DS was released 8 years later, in 2004. It's 2012, 8 years have passed since SM64DS, (it sure doesn't feel like 8 years), maybe we might see another remake someday soon.

Why hate on the remakes? The 64 had alot of the best titles and I want to go back and play them again on my 3DS. Especially considering the 64 was the best home console Nintendo ever made.

I like remakes/ports mainly because I didn't get a chance to play the original, and having it on a handheld system offers the convenience of playing on the go. However I really don't see the point of remaking a DS that you can already play on the 3DS. That's like Namco Bandai releasing a Tales game for one console, and then remaking the game the next year with more content, but on another console. It would be a waste of money.

So if they released it for the 360 then the next year for the PS3, it would be a waste?

Consider the people who bought it for the 360, but would have to own a PS3 in order to buy the updated version.

What. Those were all great additions. You're telling me you DON'T want to be able to play as Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi and you DON'T want more stars to get to keep you playing longer? This makes no sense to me.

I...Don't really think they should remake this game again. I mean...The first one was a classic, following up OoT. It was a great game for its amazing graphics to its generation of gaming. Nintendo,Sony,Microsoft,Sega and all other of there great games should be just left alone. It just pisses people off like me because of that. The DS version of this game was okay...But it just wasn't right. Oh let me think...OH YEAH, the game play is different, the graphics are different, there are more characters to choose from, and there were more game modes that just seemed stupid. I just don't think it would be worth it to remake it AGAIN. Sometimes I think that Nintendo just created the 3DS to revamp up your childhood with remakes or just see what happens next in sequels or prequels or even endings to other game series just because that they have the right technology to make it portable or wifi connected or in "Glorious 3D!" (as I see in almost every 3DS game I own.). or just because everything was most popular in video gaming during 1996-2006.
