Oh, so this show is premiering soon?

I've seen images from it but I didn't realize it wasn't even out yet.

They can't all be gems.

Also, is anyone looking forward to Frozen at all?

I'll see it but it looks so predictable to me.

I'll see it for curiosity's sake, and because I'm a huge Disney nut, but from the looks of it, yeah, it looks pretty predictable.

I like the snow golem, though (not Olaf, the giant snow guy the girl throws a snowball at).

Arashi No Yoru Ni

A film about the friendship between a wolf and a goat. In the original novel, the goat's gender was left purposely ambiguous (the film has Mei as a male). Their relationship can be interpreted as romantic or platonic depending on the viewer.

I love animals so I had to give this a watch. Very cute.

I figured I post this here instead of making a topic for it:

“Billy and Mandy” Creator Maxwell Atoms Sells “Dead Meat” on Kickstarter | Cartoon Brew

Dead Meat by Maxwell Atoms — Kickstarter

https://www.facebook.com/deadmeatseries

From Maxwell Atoms, the creator of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (and Evil Con Carne) comes a new web series called Dead Meat, a ?post-apocalyptic black comedy/social satire/puppet gore web series about a guy and his mutant dog called Dead Meat.? The Kickstarter goal is $50,000 and ends on November 16 (my birthday).

Heck yeah, this is awesome! I mean, I would have preferred seeing Atoms getting that Underfist spin-off series, but still, heck yeah!

I liked his work with Billy and Mandy. Hopefully, this succeeds.

And yeah, it was disappointing that Underfist never became an full-fledged series.

Added after 10 minutes:

Also, an unofficial the Good Dinosaur poster has been floating around.

I saw Frozen last week and it was better than I expected.

Elsa was an excellent character and she had a great musical number.
The villain surprised me.
Plus a nice twist on the whole "true love breaks the spell".

But I'm glad Frozen is out of the way because I'm VERY excited for Disney's upcoming films- Big Hero 6 (2014), Moana(2018), and Zootopia(2015).

Moana? Any major information on that?

Anyways, I'm glad Disney is keeping up an good track of quality films since Princess and the Frog. They've been doing better than Pixar lately.

It's going to be using the same technique as paperman but in color. It's based on Polynesian culture.

Okay, I know a lot of you in this thread are probably familiar with terrible films that are basically rip-offs of more popular ones. But one of these, Frozen Land, is actually a Quebec film called La L?gende de Sarila (The Legend of Sarila) except for the snowy setting it has nothing to do with Disney's Frozen or the fairy tale, The Ice Queen.

It's actually based on real Inuit legends and mythology.

Trailer here:

I'll watch it soon and share my thoughts on it.

I was considering making a topic about this, but figured it would be fine to just post this here:

I recorded the Powerpuff Girls 20th Anniversary special and saw it when I saw the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic episode, Three's a Crowd, this last Saturday, and as such, I probably don't have the best memory of what I watched as opposed to if I wrote about it then. While I watched it, I tried to keep in mind the tone of the original show more then anything, but also tried to maintain an open mind about it... Honestly? I kind of liked it.

Spoiler!

In fact... I wouldn't mind seeing this show come back. Like I said, the new art style isn't that bad, and I wouldn't mind seeing what other characters looked like with this new style. The pacing, characterization, jokes, and respect for continuity needs work, but I think they could pull it off, if they really put their minds to it. All and all, it was a good watch, though I can understand why some would be put off by it.

Frozen got the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. It was a decent flick but I don't think it was Disney's absolute best. (Elsa is a fantastic character tho.) I'd be more excited if the Academy members actually gave a crap about animation.

The other nominees, The Wind Rises and Ernest and Celestine, are on my "to watch" list but I won't get a chance to watch those 2 until their dvd release.

2014 Animated Films that I'm looking forward to:

The Boxtrolls (by the creators of Paranorman and Coraline)
Book of Life (Produced by Guillermo del Toro!)
Big Hero 6 (Disney; adapted by the comic of the same name)
Home (Dreamworks; Based on the book, The True Meaning of Smek Day)

Also, Mr Peabody & Sherman, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and The Little Prince as well.

2014 looks like an excellent year for animated film. I've already seen The Lego Movie which was funny, clever, and adorable.

So... yeah, two more "Pixar sequels" are on their way.

http://www.hypable.com/2014/03/18/in...-announcement/

On the one hand, I'm so disappointed that Pixar has now gone full-on sequel mode and doesn't even seemed to be ashamed of it. And that whole "we'll make a sequel if we have a good story for it" mentality they USED to have is BS now, given how lame Cars 2's story was. The fact that there's going to be a ****ing Cars 3... I used to say it's okay, so long as they use the money from the movies to fund their actually worth while project, but honestly, if those other projects are just more ****ing sequels, then **** it!

...That being said, it's about dang time they made a sequel to The Incredibles. I wonder if it'll ignore the video game, which takes place directly after the first movie.

Cars 3? No, no, no! Seriously? Meh. Cars has to be my least favorite Pixar film and I've never bothered to see Cars 2 because of how stupid it looks, and now there's gonna be a 3rd one? Lame.

It would make more sense for The Incredibles 2 to be several years after the original. The first one came out in 2004 after all. That being said, this movie should have been made years ago. I'm getting tired of Pixar sequels.

And Cars 2 was not just Pixar's worst film but a horrible film by general standards. And I have little hope for Cars 3 to be that much better. Cars wasn't that great of a movie to begin but it gets 2 sequels plus a spin-off series because it sells merch. :/

Yeah... At least there's going to be a sequel to The Incredibles, which I always felt was the only Pixar movie not Toy Story or Cars open to sequels. Plus, Brad Bird is writing the story, so I have some confidence in this.

An animated movie from 20th Century Fox, The Book of Life.

The only name I recognize from this trailer/production is Guillermo del Toro, and he's just a producer (out of 4 producers, including him). That aside, though, I LOVE the visuals, it's colorful AND stylized! the movie comes this October 17 (holy crap... the year's just going by so quickly, isn't it?). I'll be sure to try and remember to see this movie!

After all, while it's great to watch the latest Disney or Dreamworks movie (I'd say Pixar as well but lately... eh...), but other animation studios deserve this kind of love and support as well, especially if they make such a unique movie like this!

There doesn't seem to be any other relevant movies coming out around that time (except Paranormal Activity 5 the week after, which I guess is the new Saw/scary movie that comes out every October), so let's try to show it some love before Big Hero 6 swallows it up come November.

Incidentally, I just found out that the director of this movie, Jorge Gutierrez (a Mexican animator), created the Nicktoon El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera. That show had a distinctive style and a genuinely interesting concept, IMO. Here's hoping this movie can pull off at least that much.

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...261989811.html

http://www.equestriadaily.com/2014/0...w-feature.html

That's right! Lauren Faust, animator of movies such as Cats Don't Dance and The Iron Giant, as well as writer on shows such as The Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Wander Over Yonder, as well as the creator and former showrunner of a certain mega-popular show I'm sure you're all familiar with has signed a deal with Sony Pictures Animation to direct a movie based on Medusa of Greek myths!

A quote from Lauren herself:

Quote:
?Todd and Holly's version of the tale of Medusa is filled with so many of my favorite ideas to work with: magic, mythology, humor and strong, funny, extremely relatable characters. I was excited by the idea of showing the comedy behind an otherwise horrific monster, and I was really drawn to the writer's unique re- imagining of Greek mythology. In our story, we meet Medusa as a young human, who, like so many of us, is overwhelmed with trying to fit a certain mold to please others. Her resulting popularity ticks off the wrong Goddess who turns her into the snake-haired monster we all know and fear. Medusa sets out on a quest to reverse this curse with the help of a goofy team of oddball and misfit mythological creatures who help her learn that what makes you different is, in fact, what makes you strong.?
...You know, with this, as well as Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Sym-Bionic Titan) directing Hotel Transylvania, it's upcoming sequel, as well as a movie based on Popeye and even his own creation called Can You Imagine?, I'm suddenly gaining a lot of respect for Sony's animation department, giving these legends of television animation a chance to direct feature-length theatrical movies! Hell, they're even responsible for Cloud With a Chance of Meatballs and the sequel (though we kind of have the genius pair of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to thank for those two), as well as Arthur Christmas, which I heard was also pretty good! All this almost kind of makes up for those stupid-ass Smurfs movies...

...So yeah, another animated movie to keep an eye out for in the future!

Medusa sounds like a really strong film and I believe in Lauren Faust so there's that.

Btw, Arthur Christmas was a collaborative project between Aardman and Sony.

Aardman has only made a few full-length films such as Chicken Run, Flushed Away, Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, The Pirates! but all of them have great dialogue and are genuinely funny.

Yep, it looks fun.

FYI I'm pretty sure now that the posters are early renders of the characters and might not be 100% accurate to what they look like in the film.

So I'm looking through my Facebook notifications the other day, and I came across this:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v...if_t=notify_me

What's this? A show from Cartoon Network that's NOT about stupid nonsense and pandering to the lowest common denominator of the young boys demographic? A series that's aiming for a timeless fairy tale feel, and is created by the former creative director of Adventure Time AND stars Elijah Wood?! ...Am I dreaming or something, I feel like on the network that continues to keep Johnny Test on the air, renewed Teen Titans Go! for a second season, and who has a pretty one-sided view on what demographic they want to appeal to and only appeal to, this shouldn't be possible... Then again, it's not like Nickelodeon, who these days, just excels at making crap and doing dumbass decisions...

...But I digress, this all started with Pat McHale, writer and storyboard artist for The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack (and the basis for the one-shot character "Punsie McKale"), and creative director of Adventure Time up until season 2, though he still continued to work freelance as an outline writer for the show up until the middle of season 5. In October of 2011, he started work on an animated short called "Tome of the Unknown". Unlike other shorts on Cartoon Network, which had online releases, this eight-minute short was showcased in select locations in the film festival circuit, even winning an award! This short would be the basis for this mini-series, known as "Over the Garden Wall".

The series stars Elijah Wood and Collin Dean as Wirt and Greg, respectively, who find themselves lost in a mysterious land of living plant people. Together, along with an elderly woodsman and a talking bluebird named Beatrice (voiced by Melanie Lynskey), they try to make their way out of this strange land and back to their home.

I should note, this isn't a TV series, it's a mini-series, and so far, it's only going to last one season, comprised of 10 episodes, and the episodes themselves might not be all that long. Not much of a reason to get too excited, but still, this just feels really imaginative, unique, and... really not something I'd expect out of Cartoon Network, knowing what they want their image to be. Does anyone else get that feeling when they see this?

Either way, I can't wait to see the whole thing for myself! Maybe I'll try to find the original "Tome of the Unknown" to get a bit of a preview of what I'm in for!

The new spongebob movie looks like it could redeem the show with original writer coming back.

Bump.

Well, Big Hero 6 and The Book of Life are currently the animated films that I'm hyped for.

Song of the Sea was shown at a film festival earlier this month but who knows when us peasants can see it:

I was sort of interested in The Box Trolls but apparently they changed the story from the original book it's based on (Here Be Monsters! by Alan Snow) and I've heard some mixed things about it. eh.

Like Zootopia, Moana is original and not an adaptation, right?
Looks and sounds pretty cool regardless.

Any thoughts on Inside Out teaser?

That is correct.

Inside Out looks pretty promising too. It'll be Pixar's second film with a female lead so that will be interesting.

Yeah, I'm glad Pixar is making another main female character. I think's it's pretty challenging to imagine how Inside Out's concept would fit into an feature length film. And how the emotions avoid danger when one of them goes overboard. I don't know, it's really intriguing.

Up is one of the funniest Pixar films, so I hope Pete Docter delivers again.

Didn't realize that.

Over the Garden Wall Chapter 1 and 2:

So what I thought was gonna be a series of "OMG quirky" 15 minute shorts has turned out to be a pretty unique show. Greg and Wirt are great and the show is funny and whimsical. I also really like how the show is spooky but not in an overt "Gah you're gonna die" kinda way like the Regular Show Halloween specials or The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror. It's a subtle sort of feel that really adds to the "Children's Storybook" theme of the show. Looking forward to seeing how this whole thing plays out.

Over the Garden Wall Chapter 3 and 4:

This just keeps getting better and better. Greg is so damn adorable and Beatrice and Wirt's chemistry is great. We've also entered full creepy territory with the overarching plot. I like that it's still such a subdued fear though. The beast is upon us all.

Over the Garden Wall Chapter 5 and 6:

Holy snickets this is getting so good. I won't go into any specific details to be kind to those who haven't watched it, but I am now 110 percent behind this show. I want to know what it all means!!!!! Also, am completely in love with Wirt. Dude is great even if he is apparently a dick who doesn't truly care about his brother. But I guess that's why I like him more. It's hard to fully connect with half-siblings and I like that the creators didn't automatically make them BBFs. But anywho, I'm gonna miss tomorrow's episodes because I won't be home till 6:30. Someone record them for me please.

It sucks I couldn't see any of Over the Garden Wall this week because of work.
I've seen a preview of it on Cartoon Brew, and liked it a lot.

On another note, Toy Story 4 is confirmed. My reaction is the same as to Finding Dory, mostly disappointed and worried.
3 ended the series quite nicely, this just seems very unnecessary.
I really don't like this new trend with sequels. One of the things I loved about Pixar is that they made original films consistently.

At this point, still think The Incredibles is the only thing I feel truly deserves a sequel.

Bad feelings aside, I hope it's good. But making another film that lives up to TS3 is going to be a great challenge.

Over the Garden Wall Chapter 7 and 8:

The feels, you guys! The feels!!! I thought I was just signing up for a whimsical tale of two brothers in a magical forest. I wasn't ready for all this heart wrenching. But seriously, this fairy tale went from Disney magic to some ol' dark German fairy tale ****. I'm really quite surprised that CN allowed this to air on television. But I guess the kiddies won't really understand the hidden meaning so it's all good. Final two episodes air tonight and I'm already sad that it's ending so fast. It's a bittersweet feeling really. Like potatoes and molasses.

I didn't know you guys were watching OTGW too. I should check this thread more often X_X. I'm in love with this show brahs, it's like Adventure Time+Little Bear+Gravity Falls all in one comfy pot. Sad to see it go so soon.

As bar mentioned best song:

Toy Story 4 is Scrubs: Med School all over again

Over the Garden Wall Chapter 9 and 10:

Well that was absolutely beautiful. I don't throw around the word "perfect" often, but that's really what this show deserves to be called. No overly preachy moral, no 3deep5me hidden metaphors, and no stupid indecipherable ending. Just a charming little tale about two brothers coming together after getting lost in the woods. And I think that's why so many people are taking a liking to it. It reminds them of the simple stories they loved as children. It also really goes to show you that cartoons don't have to be demeaning and stupid in order for kids to watch them. Anwyway, I hope that Over the Garden Wall is just the first of many miniseries to come from Cartoon Network. I think the format worked really well and I'd love to see more shows like it.

Just finished Over the Garden Wall. what a great show, i really loved it, every single character introduced was great, every episode was better than the last. I especially like Wirt, and how they werent afraid to end an episode on a sad or even downright frightening note. i absolutely loves this show, and although its a shame its over im glad it ended on a flawless note. I dont even know what to say anymore, if you havent seen it please go watch it, it deserves all the attention it can get

I finally found a way to watch all of Over the Garden Wall.

Solid stuff.

The characters felt genuine. The art style was distinctive and memorable. They didn't drag out the plot for longer than necessary.

I'm glad CN invested in a project like this and I'll definitely be getting it on DVD/Blu-Ray if possible.

Someone wrote a write-up comparing the plot to Dante's Inferno:Read here

Inside Out is really something. It actually made me cry which is such a rarity for me when it comes to movies.

It's good to see another great Pixar film after some underwhelming ones. Humor wise, it's the best since Up. The short Lava was also pretty cute with some pretty photo realistic animation.

Definitely in agreement with this.

One of Pixar's best and unlike some of their other films- it definitely has sequel potential because there's so much more they could do with the whole concept.

I realized I never posted my thoughts on The Box Trolls, The Book of Life, and Song of the Sea which I both saw a few months ago.

The Box Trolls was probably the biggest disappointment for me. Like I honestly don't get why some people were gushing about it. Definitely Laika's worst film. The stop action is always impressive but the story was just all over the place.

The Book of Life The beginning was a little slow but things really picked up once the film headed into the Land of the Dead. The middle and end were excellent.

Song of the Sea was my personal favorite. A beautifully animated film with a nice story to go along with it.

Moana is looking good. It has great character design and concept art so far.

Also, it looks to be a respectful take on Polynesian culture.

I'm much more interested in Moana than Zootopia.
However, both of them do look to make a good 2016 for Disney.

I'm still not too sure about Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, considering all the development hell that one went through.
The recent trailer didn't look too bad, though.

I've been kinda down on Disney lately since all the movies they make are computer animated. But the Moana movie looks pretty cool and it has the freaking Rock! Think I might bite.

Disney's CGI films are honestly pretty gorgeous so I don't mind.
I'm waiting for the day where making a whole film in the style of The Paperman is feasible, though.

Guys, if you're not watching the new Mickey shorts from Disney, you're doing it wrong. Strong contender for the funniest cartoon on tv right now. Here's the latest one to start you off.

They are all that funny.

So the Regular Show movie is out and apparently it's been getting good reviews? I dunno lol. Most of the reviews have been tweeted out by JG Quintel himself. Dunno if he'd tweet out the bad reviews too. Anyone seen it? It's apparently out in digital format right now but I ain't got no money. Is it worth a purchase for Regular Show fans?

So CN posted a sneak peek of the PPG revival. http://www.facebook.com/CartoonNetwo...3374981348372/

Thoughts: I'm glad they didn't go with the anniversary special art style but using new VAs really hits me hard. Especially when they're still available and willing. I'll still give it a shot but new VAs really hurts.

So CN just posted a sneak peek for the PPG revival. Check it out:

https://www.facebook.com/CartoonNetw...3374981348372/

My thoughts: On the one hand i'm glad they didn't go with the terrible anniversary special art style but on the other I really feel weird with the new VAs. Especially since the original VAs are ready and willing. I'll still give the show a chance though.

As much as I love PPG (it's probably my favorite cartoon of all time), I really don't have high hopes for the revival. I like this art style more than the anniversary special but it's still the same art style as pretty much everything else on CN (as in, not very good). Not to mention that I thought the last season of the original series was already pretty weak, so I don't know if this series will improve.

Either way, only thing we can do is wait and see. I'd be lying if I said I still wasn't a little excited.

I actually like the anniversary specials style better.
It didn't really fit PPG too well and it looks a bit awkward in motion but at least it offered nice backgrounds and stills. This new one reeks of mid-2000's canadian flash cartoons and just feels like a cheap knockoff of the original.

I'll stay cautiously optimistic but outside of Steven Universe and Over the Garden Wall CN's shows recently have been mostly forgettable.

I honestly really liked Zootopia.

I thought it handled the topic of racism quite well.

Plus the two main characters had good interactions.

Racism/stereotyping was the main theme of the entire film.

It involves animals instead of race but the parallels are quite obvious.

Oh man. I just saw Zootopia. Really really great movie. And yeah. The racism parallels were super obvious in a lot of scenes.

Oh i see. Didn't think they'd be going that route. Makes sense but I thought it'd just be a lighthearted talking animal movie like Over the Hedge.

Recently saw The Good Dinosaur and I have to say I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. After the tepid reception for the movie I thought maybe Pixar had finally lost it but I thought it was pretty funny and heartfelt. Maybe not as soul crushingly sad as some of the other Pixar movies tend to go towards but it was pretty good.

The Good Dinosaur was the only recent Pixar film that I didn't see in theaters.

It's not like I shunned it on purpose. I just never found the time to go and see it.

That's when you know you're an adult, Kinvy. Can't find time to go see animated movies. ;____; If I ever come visit ya we'll do a marathon of animated movies. That's a promise.

The film came across as very by the books from all the trailers and its receptions.
Like, not horrible, more like Pixar going down a checklist of what to put in a Pixar film.

I'd watch it if it was on television but I have no desire to go out of my way for it, unlike The Inside Out.

Just finished watching Zootopia with the family and I have to say I really love it. I had heard the moral of the movie was a little heavy handed and so I felt I wasn't gonna like it but the characters were charming as all get-out, it was beautifully animated and it had the classic Disney comedic touch. Even the story's main theme about prejudice was handled really well. Not often you get to see the story from the view point of the prejudiced. And I think that's really important for children to see. The movie allows kids to see that their actions, whether intentional or not, can hurt others and that anyone, even someone labelled as "good", can be prejudiced. I'm not gonna claim the movie goes super in-depth into the finer points of race relations but it's a pretty good jumping off point. The last few years I've been slightly disappointed with Disney's output, both their regular team and the Pixar side. Thanks to Zootopia though I know that Disney still hasnt lost their touch. All in all, I think i'd give the movie a 9 out of 10. It's got a few flaws but it's pretty damn fantastic overall.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Disney has in store with Moana. I'm glad they took a chance with Zootopia and I hope Moana does great to so they can see that original works can be just as successful as adaptions and we can continue to see more projects like this. Disney has a lot of bright minds in their employ. They just need to trust in them more and give them the freedom to be able to express their creativity.

PS: The world of Zootopia would make a fantastic setting for a video game with its varied environments and great cast of characters. I'm looking at you, Kingdom Hearts.

What did everyone think of the Moana teaser they recently released?

I love the Rock as a voice actor.

If you liked Zootopia, I recommend watching the documentary Imaging Zootopia

The final film has a different plot from the original concept.

I went and saw Finding Dory just for the heck of it.

About what I expected. An unnecessary sequel to a movie that never needed one.

The short, Piper, at the beginning was great tho.

Recently saw Zootopia and it was pretty good. As mentioned earlier, the chemistry between Judy and Nick is energetic and touching. The world building in this movie is also fantastic. I'd be disappointed if Disney doesn't expand on this univerese with a sequel. Seeing Wreck it Ralph and Frozen each have one in the works, I have high hopes.

Stoked for Kubo and the Two Strings. With a solid output three films in, Laika has a lot of potential to be a powerhouse. I enjoyed ParaNorman quite a bit. Need to revisit Coraline and give it another shot after initially hating it when it released.

Anyone here seen Song of the Sea? That's the next film I'll be watching.

Watched Zootopia, and while it was good, I found the Secret Life of Pets to be better.
Kevin Hart stole it for me lol

I loved it.

It heavily features Celtic mythology and it was really neat to see all of it.

Absolutely agree. Song of the Sea was fantastic. Beautiful films like this is a kind reminder that traditional animation is not part of the past.

On another topic, Shrek 5 is a thing now. 2019.

I watched it all.

Enjoyed it a lot. Pidge and Shiro are the characters getting the best character development so far. Hope the others get some attention next season.
