I'm still learning stuff on that to tell you the truth... I find windows xp the most practical for sprite editing.

Photoshop for Sprite editing..? Who would... Wat.
Personally, I found the Window's XP version of MS Paint the most intuitive program to edit sprites. But the new one works if you try. xD

You could try GIMP.. it's free, and really easy to have transparent backgrounds. It's really nice for other paint program-related stuff too.

Windows 7 Paint is the worst paint program I've ever used, and as a sprite-comic maker, that's really disappointing.
Windows Vista had a decent paint program though, so I don't really know what happened between the two.
When you select pixels, if you're within 100,000 pixels of that selection, you'll still move it, so you have to go into another mode to get out of the selection.
Also, selecting pixels is odd, because now you have to be about two pixels away both horizontally and vertically to select what you want.

Paint XP for Windows 7
And it is free ^.^

I for one hate the Windows7 Version of MSPaint >.<
Especially when it comes to Spriting & Pixel Art.

I agree. Vista and XP had the right idea (I actually admire their simplicity), but 7 is waaay too streamlined.
I'd say Paint.NET, Paint Shop Pro, and Graphics Gale are the most ideal for sprite editing.

Meh, Photoshop isn't too great for spriting, either. Like the name implies, it's optimized for photo editing more than working with pixel art.

I prefer windows XP paint, it's the only tool I can work with. I know there are others out there that are better though. It concerns me because I've done one horrible sprite on MS 7 paint, and it's really bad compared to windows XP. All I can do on MS 7 paint is recolour.

I've been actually drawing with my mouse on Windows 7 MS paint and then using the pentool to perfect the lines and it's been turning out really well so it's not completely useless IMO. People say W7 Paint is sophisticated, but it's not.
