They're excited because their home menus are all cluttered up (including mine). Since yours isn't, You have no use for it. It's common sense.

Is was messing around with my 3ds yesterday wondering why we can't put games in folders. Android has it, IOS has it.
So it's a nice suprise hearing that this will be fixed. It's a great functionality upgrade. I just don't get it that people are upset because they won't be using the function. I mean, we got Nintendo video in past update and I don't use it. Why complain? I don't HAVE to use it. Last edited by Mactire; 04-25-2012 at 10:41 AM. Reason: Typos |

I have no idea what an ambassador is but i love the new update, itmeans i can put all the things i dont use in one file and that means i dont have to look at it anymore. Very useful to me. LOVE IT.

I agree with trashboy. The folders should be able to have something besides a single character. I don't even want to use them because they look so ugly. They could've added the option to use icons like a 3DS (for 3DSWare) a DSi (for DSiWare) or any of the systems that have been added for Virtual Console so it just looks nicer.

Organization man. Especially if you're an ambassador and also have all those videos. Plus demos... it kinda gets ridiculous after a while.

My beautiful home menu: ♥
![]() I shoved all my ambassador/eshop games (a total of 35) into one folder. And I put the Nintendo Zone & Health and safety icons all the way at the back of the folder. Now my 3ds menu is prettyful complete with a star. (The folder name is "*Star* Downloads")

Why do people always complain when Nintendo gives them something? You were begging for folders, something that it almost completely unnecesary, and when Nintendo gives them to you, you complain because "they're ugly"
=_=

Even if you're not getting any use from the addition of folders, why be disappointed? Either you use them and they're a huge help or you don't use them and it doesn't affect you at all.
For me, I'm the type of guy whose always tried to keep the home screen organized ever since getting the 3DS. As far as I know, there's no way to pick up and move multiple items at the same time on the home screen. That means that every time I downloaded something new, I had to move tons of little icons individually to fit it in where I wanted it to be. Now I can just drag my new download into the folder I want and I'm done. So not only does the folders just make it look nicer and easier to navigate, but it makes organizing the home screen a lot less of a hassle too. |

Anyways, back to the subject, I think the folders are extremely handy, scrolling through page after page of miniaturized title screens gets annoying after a while. Now I have a NES, Gameboy, and Demo folder. My life is so much better. On the other hand... yes I'm an ungrateful little bastard... they're so ugly! UGH! It would only take 10 minutes of coding to make the home menu locate all your NES titles and automatically move them to a folder with an NES as the icon! And it would look so badass! Now that I think of it, who else thinks the VC game icons should be their box art or cartridge label instead of the title screen? Just imagine a tiny NES or GameBoy on your menu, you tap them and then you get to choose a cartridge! The home menu should be able to determine if a download is a GB, GBA, GG, NES, DSi, 3DS game, application, demo or video and give you the opton to automate their organization. It should also proactively offer to do it when it detects more than 5 icons of the same category on your home screen. Other things to consider:
I think Nintendo really needs to consider adopting more smartphone conventions on their user interface. I don't think the iPhone would sell so well if it had a home screen like the 3DS.

I think what excite me the most about folders is the fact that it seems like Nintendo may actually be listening to what the consumers have to say about their products.....

I think the folders are a good upgrade, what's not to like?
I know I'm prob. not the first to suggest it, but folders in Swapnote/Letterbox would be great too. C'mon Nintendo, sort it out.

Yes, they can be helpful.
But was it really necessary to make an update just for folders and a new eShop layout? Is this really all I've been waiting a month for?

Is there a way to move the icons so I won't have a blank area between icons? That blank space is to create a folder, but right now I have no use for a folder.
Another issue, when I go to create a new folder then delete it, I make a new one and it's listed as #2, I repeat and do the same thing again (trying to get rid of the new folder) and when make a new one it's listed as #3 and so on. The number keeps going up even though I only keep creating one new folder (and then deleting it.) I keep trying to delete any new created folders because I'm trying to get rid of the blank spot between home menu icons. When I delete a folder, the menu icons don't move and I'm left with a blank space between icons. And, is there a way to create a folder with the new one being #1 again? Added after 14 minutes: Update: I checked out a Youtube video about the folders and see apparently it's very easy to move the icons into blank spaces. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL0Lcgwj7KU However, I still don't know why new folders keep getting auto named the next number up even though at this time I have no other folders. Yes, for several reasons.
1st, The 3DS system is all new to me. I've never used one before, so going back and reading what others have written about something I was wondering about helps. 2nd, The policies of this forum forbid me to make new threads about a subject that's been already created and 3rd, It's also good for those who have never used a 3DS system before and will help them understand features they may have not known about.

2. So you are saying that the "rules" tell you to bump a 3 year old thread rather than post your question? Show me. 3. See #1 |

I made an announcement about necroposting ages ago.
Like, necroposting isn't a big deal unless it's spam or something. Neither is making a duplicate thread for a topic that's super old. Quote:
That's really weird. I mean you can always rename the folders so I guess it doesn't matter |

Yea, that is odd. Like you said it can be renamed...by the way that was something I didn't know about till yesterday.
By the way this thread mentions about moving folders around with no talk about moving icons. I'm glad to finally learn icons can also be moved. Of course I could have just tried it, I simply didn't have my NEW 3DS with me at the moment to experiment. Even worst, the woman at the Nintendo help line only told me about deleting folders and when I asked about filling in the space between icons, she never mentioned the icons can be moved. Personally, I don't think she knew. Basically, moving icons on the 3DS is a lot like doing drag and drop on a computer.
