Default Pokemon Adventures

I didn't happen to find any threads relating to this, so here goes. Welcome to the official place to talk about the famous Pokemon manga, Pokemon Adventures (also known as PokeSpe). Whether you are in the mood for discussions of the R/B/Y arc or are hyping up the new issue of the B/W arc, this is the only place to discuss the best Pokemon manga that has been created.

So, to start the discussion, is anyone disappointed in the new B/W arc? Personally, the newer arcs aren't up to snuff, and the older arcs are by far better. (the D/P/P arc seemed a tad bit lacking, and I haven't read the R/S/E arc because I can't find a single issue. They're not even on eBay or Amazon!)

The Johto chapter is still my favorite to this day. I'm happy we are almost done with the Platinum chapter so we can go back to them.
The Hoenn arc is really worth a read if you get the chance. Ruby and Sapphire are incredible characters and probably the most interesting ones in the entire comic.

Also, you're a total bro for making this topic. I figured Sapph and I were the only two guys who followed Special.

Thanks. And I agree with you, the Johto arc had an awesome finale. Do you think they will ever re-release the R/S/E arc?

I enjoy the BW arc. It doesn't compare to the R/B/Y arc, which in my opinion is the best one, but it's not bad.

I only read up to the GSC arc; however, I must say that I did enjoy the manga series up to that point. Perhaps I might try to find the other editions when I get the time.

Same here, the R/B/Y arc was the best so far. The problem for me with the B/W arc is that the volumes are too short, and they aren't using the storyline's full potential. Sure the characters are pretty entertaining and the action is almost as good as always, but it's like the games have taken a step forward and the anime and manga have regressed.

I'm reading the DPP arc right now and I'm enjoying it. I'll be buying the box sets for RBY and GSC when they're released in August and September respectively

When do you think the Ruby and Sapphire volumes will be released in the US? How did you read them?

Would you suggest buying the individual volumes of the Black and White series now or wait until a box release?

I would go with the box release. The B/W arc isn't up to standards, so buying each individual volume would be way overvalued, even though the volumes are cheaper than usual because of how short they are.

I think I might have read the first volume of this manga when I was younger, but it's been so long I've completely forgotten everything.

One of these days I'll get to read it again, hopefully.

(I don't read a manga online if it's licensed in the U.S.)

I have the first three volumes, and I have enjoyed reading them. Its a shame that I can never seem to find the volume that I need, and always the ones I don't.

I didn't know there were box sets... Gah, I've spent almost as much on the first three volumes as I could have on all 7. That really stinks. But it is also good to know for the future, will remember this.

Also, just out of curiosity, would this be the correct Diamond/Pearl volumes or are they something different? Same for these Black/White ones.
I feel stupid for asking, but I don't want to accidentally buy the wrong books one day...

That's a different manga. This is the Pokemon Adventures: Diamond and Pearl, Platinum

The Black/White ones are a part of the Pokemon Adventures series though.

it's very coincidental that i found this thread because i recently ordered the first 3 volumes off Amazon! i hope i like it, the only other Pokemon manga (and any manga for that matter) i've read was Pikachu Shocks Back from The Electric Tale of Pikachu. i found them at like a swap meet when i was a kid, 4 issues all in a bag, brand new. i read them and re-read them so much... i'm horrified with myself now, seeing what i did to those books xD

so yeah i'm looking forward to getting these, i'll let you guys know what i think when im done!

I was searching around and apparently there are no plans to release the Ruby/Sapphire, Emerald, and FireRed/LeafGreen volumes. That's too bad, I was hoping to read the entire series.

EDIT:
@the world ends with me
I think you'll enjoy them; I know I was pleasantly surprised when I started reading them.

i just finished the Red/Green/Blue arc and i LOVED it! they took the best elements from the games and the anime and rolled it into one. probably the best version of Pokemon i've experienced. i definately plan on getting the Yellow arc, then G/S/C.

one thing tho is that it seemed short, but that's probably just cuz i couldn't stop reading them.

So... how many people got the box set?

Mine just came in today. There was also a poster inside but it's small and dinky.

I got mine the day it came out. I also think the poster is way to small. It should've been at least the size as a normal piece of paper.

I totally remember reading these while my mom was shopping at stores when I was a kid. She'd always know where to find me when she was done. Problem was, I had a hard time finding which one was which. So many different versions existed, and I didn't know the exact name of the one I wanted. All I knew is, the main trainer had a Poliwhirl, then he got a Bulbasaur, then Pikachu. Most of the time, I ended up finding The Electric Tale of Pikachu, which didn't do much for me, or some other Pokemon manga that I had no clue about...

Either way, finding them and buying the boxset had me excited, can't wait to start reading these again!

Bump Bump

I just ordered the Gold/Silver Box Set. Once it gets here, I'll begin an intense manga reading marathon of volumes 1-14.

Also, there are pages on Amazon.com for Pokemon Adventures, 15-17 and Pokemon Adventures: Heart Gold and Soul Silver, Vol.1 with 2013 release dates.

Yay! They're finally getting localized.

ooh nice to see a pokemon adventures thread. As for me , i still love the G/S/C arc because it had a really interesting storyline plus appearances from Red, Blue and Green from the R/B/Y arc. Ruby and Sapphire was really nice and i love the two main characters. I think the only one that didn't really interest me was the emerald arc except for the cameos from the previous arcs. D/P/P arc was good but not as nice as the first few arc and i haven't started on B/W arc yet.

How i wished they would create a game based on pokemon adventures storyline it would be awesome yet impossible

I got all three boxed sets for Christmas. Now I've got doubles of the first three volumes, but its so worth it.

I really wish they would localize the Ruby and Sapphire volumes. As it is, it just skips straight from Johto to Sinnoh.

Which reminds me, I'd love to have a Sinnoh boxed set too.

Yes! Finally! Maybe I should read all of the G/S/C volumes between 9-14 though.

This is awesome! And it releases in only less than two months. Now, should I wait and see if they'll do a box set, or just buy 'em one by one? Decisions, decisions...

I've been keeping up with it. The last volume of the black and white arc comes out in a month or so.

XY is being released as those crappy mini-volumes so I'm holding out for a proper release.

I really want to pick up the volumes for the first two generations but I'll never get over Blue and Green switching names in the translation.

Is everyone of the opinion that the Emerald arc is the worst?

Emerald as a character is awful but I thought the parts of the plot that didn't include Emerald were good.

Emerald was such an obnoxious character that it destroyed the entire arc. He wasn't funny, his design isn't appealing, he acted like an ass, his backstory wasn't interesting, his development and big reveal were underwhelming, he had almost nothing to do with the cast he was saving and the possibility of him usurping Red as the strongest trainer was just icing on the cake. The scenes without him that focused on Crystal and the old gang were great, and I liked Archie as a villain again, but he took up such a bulk of the story that the climax couldn't save it.

I frankly have no idea why all of Wally's build up and growth was scrapped in favor of him. Did the author have a panic attack after realizing he couldn't name him after the third version?

I just really hate how he looks. Most Pokespe characters have cool designs. Emerald looks like a deviantart reject.

I gave the Emerald arc a re-read, and I can see what you mean. I mostly didn't pay attention because most of the characters I liked weren't there until the very end.
