Wait, why would you need to transfer games? Aren't they on the card included with the 3DS? Or is that a way to transfer from one card to another, from the 3DS to the 3DS XL?

Sorry, i can't run videos right now, my computer is acting weird.

Technically you dont need to transfer games, but you DO need to transfer licenses, which basically tell the system that those games are YOURS and are already purchased and is tied to your system. As long as the licenses are there, you can delete and re-download games as much as you want.

You cannot transfer from card to card and expect it to work, its just not how it works.

I somewhat understand what you are saying. What if i want to transfer the licenses from a 3DS to a 3DS XL that i will buy that day? Can i somehow transfer the licenses while in that Gamestop i travel to? And, will the clerk allow me to do that? And, it seems in that video you have to have the same card...I don't know if Gamestop will allow you to keep the card. Sorry if i'm wrong, not feeling too good right now...

So do NOT swap the SD card from the old system to the new one, the 3DS XL comes with a 4GB anyway, why even bother with the 2GB anymore?
Since the old thread is locked, I'll educate you here.

The old SD card is not tied to the old system, all the downloadables and content on the SD card will be tied to the NEW system but remain on the old SD card.

This is part of the instruction that you have ignored, not only in this thread, but the instructions provided by Nintendo themselves.

To make use of the new 4GB memory card, assuming you haven't upgraded to a better capacity card already, the contents should be transferred to it separately. Either before, or after the system transfer takes place.

This is quite helpful, I was wondering how this would work in general between the systems, because I'm getting another 3DS and I'm going to transfer over to it

Either you sell it after, or you trade it in at the same time you buy the new one and ask them nicely if they will let you do a system transfer, problem is, Gamestop doesnt have WiFi that I know of, and you need both connected to the internet in order to system transfer.

I'm guessing this is no different from how it's always worked, it's just that people care more now with the XL coming out soon.

You are right, but still a lot of people still didn't know if and what tranfers to a new system. Hopefully this helps some people.

What about if you are going to trade your 3DS in for the XL, if they aren't tied to the system, can't I just use my old memory card without all the transfering? Never mind I found what I was looking for.

Does anyone know if the memory can be transferred unlimited times?

Like if I can go back and forth between my two 3DS's once the XL is out.

There is a five transfer limit. After that point you would either have to contact Nintendo and attempt to convince them to restore your transfer limit, or reset your club Nintendo account to a blank slate, robbing you of your purchases.

Not a particularly nice situation either way.

Just a question, would data from the source system be lost if somehow, both systems disconnect?

Hmmm i tried it i got my mii stuff like all my hats and stuff on my 3ds but the games didnt transfer to the bigger 4gig memory stick all of them are still on my 2 gig one. Its not a huge deal 2 gigs its still a ton because the eshop games barley take up any space. Im just wondering where i went wrong in a step.

You didn't go wrong, you need to transfer them to the new card manually using your computer.

Has everyone had a good experience transferring data in-store at Gamestop? I don't want to screw up and lose my ambassador games, saves, streetpass, etc.

I'm just going to transfer my 2GB SD card that came with my 3DS (has all my data on it) to my 4GB (that I do not use, came with my XL) right now, the 4GB has a nintendo 3DS folder inside, but only one file. Should I delete this?

At my gamestop they still had the deal where u get $100 credit towards an xl when you trade in your old 3ds. So I paid full price for the xl went home did the system transfer, went back to gamestop with my reciept and my old 3ds and got $100 store credit witch I used to get nsmb2 and kid icarus plus pilotwings was free with the xl so I made out pretty good

i have street pass miis that i haven't activated yet, would they still be there when i do the system transfer? or is it a good idea to activate them now and get the puzzle pieces and stuff now before i do the system transfer?

also will the 3ds xl come charged already or with any juice left in the battery as i need to do the system transfer as soon as i get the 3ds xl a friend wants to sell my normal 3ds for me on the day, would it work if i put the 3ds xl charger in straight away and do the system transfer like that from my normal 3ds?

I personally don't know if the StreetPass Miis would transfer or not, but you might as well activate them before the transfer. That way you avoid any risk.

The 3DS XL will come with at least some charge on it (mine did), but it's easy enough to do the transfer with it plugged in and charging to be safe.

From what I experienced, the only things that don't transfer are saved credit card info for the eShop (if you chose to save it) and whatever games/files are currently present on the SD card. You'll just switch out the SD card to the new system during the transfer process.

Pretty sure it actually tells you what won't transfer over while you're going through the transfer process, so you might want to pay attention to that in case I missed something.

reading at other places online I understand that the eshop account is transferred, so then you would be able to re-download your downloaded games, right? if that is right would you have data from the games?

So, to transfer the games saved to my 2gb memory card from the old 3DS to the 4gb from the XL, I just do that on my computer?
Easy enough.

OMG, I was looking for answers to how to do this, THANK you!

See, for a while, I've been noticing that the touch screen on my 3DS is wonky, it doesn't work right, specifically it thinks I'm tapping a different part of the screen then what I'm actually tapping (it's either slightly to the right or to the left... or somethings, I don't even know). I've tried calibrating it, but it doesn't seem to work. I was thinking about sending it into Nintendo ti possibly fix, but then I got the idea to transfer my data into another 3DS.

So yeah, this will definitely be helpful, thanks!

Okay, another question: I'm told to copy the contents of my SD card on my old 3DS to the 4GB SD card I get with my 3DS XL, using my computer. How do I do that?
