How is NSMB2?

Default How is NSMB2?

I've been debating on getting NSMB2, but from all the footage I have seen, it looks way too recycled, and overall just another mario game. I really like the 3D mario games, as well as the old mario games because each game has a unique style to them. However, with the newer sidescrolling marios, they just seem like the same game with little differences. I have also heard that NSMB2 doesn't have as much content.

Usually, Mario games are worth the money because they are pretty fun. But from what it looks like, I would probably be better off playing NSMB or NSMBW if I wanted to play a newer sidescrolling mario game, because they are cheaper.

I loved 3D Land, beat it to a pulp, and sold it to pay for other games, but I regret selling it now.

How is NSMB2? Is it worth getting? Or would getting 3D Land a second time be a better choice for a mario game?

NSMB2 is definitely a great game. I would choose NSMB2 over 3D Land because you already beat 3D Land. A lot of people say the game is the same over and over, but I have to say the level design is pretty good. Out of all the NSMB games, I think NSMB2 is the best.

It's like New Super Mario Bros Wii with all new levels and a lot of coins. As the name says, it is a second part of New Super Mario Bros. I'm REALLY loving it. It's very fun, the level design is really nice, I feel like it is a little faster than NSMB, and the 3D effect is just beautiful. The whole graphics are really preaty, it's very nice to watch. Just as fun as NSMB, I can't tell about 3D Land because I haven't play it yet, but it is reaaaally fun.

I wouldn't say it is a perfect game everyone must play before they die or anything, but I could easily say it is a professional time killer. Buy it if you have the money and want a nice sidescrolling platformer.

I haven't played the previous New Super Mario Bros. games so I can't tell you how recycled 2 really is. But as someone who loved 3D Land, to me it feels like NSMB2 is really like 3D Land, except in 2D. Let's call it Super Mario 2D Land. I do think 3D Land is better -- because c'mon, those beautiful 3D environments, it's just more impressive -- but other than that NSMB2 is really just as good in terms of gameplay and level design, it's the same level of quality but in 2D (which again, makes a difference since it looks like it took less time and money to make, it doesn't feel as "big" as 3D Land).

I'd also like to say that I heard the game was supposedly too easy, and I don't agree with that at all. I'd say NSMB2 is as challenging as the 8 special worlds in 3D Land for me. One thing that does contribute a little to that challenge is that I feel the controls in 3D Land were more diverse and tighter. Jumping from wall to wall worked really easily in 3D Land; in NSMB2 it feels like it works when it wants to, which makes catching golden coins harder when that's what you need to do to get to them. You also had a wider range of moves in 3DL that would make some of the level-design elements in NSMB2 easier if it had them.

Overall though it has the Mario seal of quality all over it. I don't know how good the two previous games are and I don't know how much you can get them for, because from what I see on Amazon they're $34.96 and $48.88, so I really don't see why you'd buy them instead of NSMB2 if you want to play a side-scrolling Mario platformer.

I meant if I wanted to play a side-scrolling mario, I'd play one of the mario land games, or smb1, 3, or super mario world.

NSMB and NSMBW felt really dull compared to other side-scrolling mario games so I'm just worried that I wouldn't care much for NSMB2

If you didn't like the ds game or the wii game, you won't like this one. Pretty much a carbon copy with more of an emphasis on coins.

I friend of mine bought it on the e-Shop and I played a few different levels on different worlds and it was okay. I mean this game has the best level design out of the series but it's still to much of the same. There's very little difference in this game compared to it predecessors and I felt the whole coin thing was useless.

I'm loving it so far, but if you didn't like the previous titles, I HIGHLY doubt you'll like this one.

Even if it's the same thing, I love the level design and the secrets.

Saying that it's the same exact game as the first NSMB is like saying Mario Galaxy 2 or even Mario 3D Land is the same as Mario Galaxy 1. Also the argument "because it's in 2D, it's a cash-in" is pretty weak as well. It's ok to dislike the game, but you need to give a valid reason (not adressing the OP).

The level design is one of the best the 2D Mario games have ever seen, the Mario Land games come nowhere near close to it. It beats Mario 1, 2, Lost Levels, NSMB 1, Wii and 3D Land in my opinion. Like Yanikun said, the level design does match the quality of 3D Land, but it doesn't suffer from linearness like 3D Land. It also has real secret worlds, unlike 3D Land.

I say, if you like 2D Mario games like SMB3 and Super Mario World, you should get this game. However, if you didn't like the other 2 games in the NSMB series, you might not like this one, as NSMB2 does share a lot of similarities to those games (like the world themes, the structure of the worlds, and the bosses)

Thinking about it, it's like asking "Hey, if I didn't like Pokemon Black and White will I like Pokemon Black and White 2?". It's going to be much like the previous game, with new levels and stuff. Now, it really has a lot of refferences (specially musical) to Super Mario Bros 3.

How challenging is it? As challenging as Wii, or just the same as DS?

really this is one of the first mario games that i wont be buying, it does seem very similar only with more emphasis on coin collecting, and no online play? i mean come on its 2012 this was nintendos chance to add online play to a super mario bros title,

I wished they had some online love for this game. It really would have been fun.

It's just like Starfox 64 3D. That game would have really taken off if they had online multiplayer.

Past those facts, yes it is similar to previous titles, but the level design is something I'm loving from this game.
