Okay can anyone explain what this game is? I've never seen an actual gameplay trailer and STILL be confused as to what the point of the game is before.

It just "looks" like pikmin style. From the hands on impressions that I read it plays nothing like Pikmin.

Why does this scream viewtiful joe to me?
Well it doesnt really showcase graphical power... But it does showcase some pretty hefty cpu power. Aside from the buttload of characters, when they "transform" On ps3 or 360 they would swap out the little people for the model of what they turn into, here they simply change the texture. All the little people are still there, posed in the shape of what they are supposed to be, sword or ladder, and they form and deform the objects one peice er, person at a time. On top of that, the environments in this type of game would be pretty static, maybe small scale destruction in the form of model swaps, but a giant robot tears the entire game map apart peice by peice, not shaking and tilting, but large scale full control rapidly occuring fast moving animations of broken and actively breaking portions of the entire game map. This is a good sign for potential. Actually the graphics are pretty telling too. Theres a lot of spherical designs in the robots, even the biggest one, and they are a LOT smoother here than in any ps3/360 game I own... I cant see any individual faces or vertices in the circular indentationsvor gun barrels.... And its not like its a simplistic scene either Last edited by 3dude; 06-06-2012 at 01:59 PM. |

This looks fantastic! It does give off that Pikmin vibe judging from the trailer, but from what I've heard, it seems to be different enough to be considered its own beast. They should have shown more stuff like this at the Nintendo conference.

Those are the tiny pebble sized civilians running around waiting for you to super heroize them in gameplay. It helps to set expectations as appropriate by genre, there is a reason the cheif character models in halo wars look like ds character models and not like the ones found in Halo 4. |

There does appear to be individuals you can find that are above and beyond your ordinary citizens with masks. They are typically simply labeled something like #23 with a very unique character portrait. I wonder if you find them or if normal hero civilians become them if the survive long enough... And what purpose they serve. |

I would rather buy Pikmin first, but this looks like an interesting Pikmin-esque RPG thing (if that is waht it is).

Its absolutely nothing like pikmin beyond having lots of characters on screen. You dont send individuals to attack like an rts like pikmin. You attack with combos into air combos stringing moves together like a beat em up like viewtiful joe. The more sidekicks you have the bigger the sword you can make, the longer/more advanced/more powerful your attacks become, because they BECOME your sword, or giant fist, or gun or ladder etc. |

I'm reminded a lot more of Little King's Story by this, but then LKS is a less well known game so I can see why more think Pikmin. It's definitely got it's own flavour though.
I'm going to keep an eye on it, but being a fan of these type of games I know that they need to be played to be fully appreciated. Here's hoping for launch day demos.

I think this looks boss. I love the vibrant art style, I love giant robots, and I love that style of action. Cool to see that there's a co-op mode.

When platinum games arose from the ashes of clover, I wasn't Looking for games like madworld or bayonetta.
I was waiting for the spiritual resurrection of Viewtiful Joe. And its finally here, and shaping up nice. It has the vj look, not because its trying to ape vj, but because it IS from the same BLOOD as vj, and for the same reason it has the vj feel and rythm to combat and platforming.... And even sound, as one of vj's main composers Masami Ueda is composing for vj..... And I HEAVILY suspect vj's vo cast is also returning from listening to the main trailer, as soundelux has a strong relationship woth platinum, providing vo for bayonetta and metal gear rising revengeance (konami sourced it to platinum). And a certain red tight and pink scarf wearing hero sounds an AWFUL lot like a less nerdy version of another beloved red tights and pink scarf wearing hero with talent provided by soundelux (DEFINATELY sounds more like dee bradley baker than mvc3's vj voice Darrel Guilbeau) All the peices are falling into place. This is going to be an epic worthy of its spiritual predecessor. This is not a game to be missed. That being said Im DYING to hear wonderful 101's main theme, I absolutely LOVED Viewtiful joes main theme, and imagine this is going to be similar, albeit less electronic and more brassy, over the top slightly cheesy super herp stuff, but with the same high energy as vj. The trailers not helping much, as all I really got out of it was a brief jingle of what I believe to be a theme. The fusion of high energy and epic orchestral hero sounds brings Masakazu Sugimori's SNES Sparkster main theme to mind. I can't wait for this game. |

It makes me sad to, because the end of VJ2 indicated there was one more bad guy to beat, the biggest and worst of them all. I was awaiting VJ3 ever since then. Glad we got a good DS game though, even if it was a side-story.

...as I said, it may be never. The studio that made the game is no more. Capcom is not exactly on top of things right now. Things don't look good for Viewtiful Joe 3. It's not a matter of when, anymore. It's a matter of "if".

Platinum IS clover (team viewtiful). The people who made viewtiful Joe, okami, godhand etc left capcom after capcom terminated one of fhe greatest teams it ever had, and they formed platinum.
Capcom retains the legal rights to.the IP's clover.created, but platinum has the people who made those games. So, while capcom CAN put out vj3 it will suck donkey balls. It wont quite look right, it wont sound right, and it certainly.wont play right. Platinum on the other hand, has the artists behind viewtiful Joe, (and it REALLY shows), they have the writers for vj, they have the game designers behind vj (also shows) They are still heavily working with the company that provided the voice talent for na/pal vj, and have the music composer for vj. This is the closest thing we will ever get to vj3, even if capcom released a vj3. Platinum has been doing a lot of godhand successors lately, probably because they felt godhand wasnt a good enough execution of the concept behind it and they wanted to change/evolve it until it met their standards. First with madworld, then bayonetta. Im guessing they were satisfied with bayonetta, which is why they are moving to the vj concept to do new things with it, while bayonetta gets a sequel instead of us seeing a new ip with the godhand concept going in.a different direction. |

Capcom knows it can't make a vj3 because it would suck donkey dick and humiliate the franchise. Platinum can't make vj3 because capcom owns the rights to the franchise they made and would sue them. its never happening. |
