Default Pokemon still fun as an adult?

Hey, i am 26, and just bought a Nintendo 3DS XL since i am going on a long plane ride.

I got Zelda as I loved it on nintendo 64, and am looking for a fun RPG. I loved the old pokemon games when i was younger, and have only played red and blue.

Would i still like the new black and white versions 2 and are they worth it?

please any help would be nice, thanks.

That's a hard question tbf.. If you liked it back then you're probably going to like it now. This time around in Black and White it feels like there's an actual story along with your journey instead of just the usual get all the badges and then head for the elite four. Playing Pokemon games as an adult doesn't differ from being a child, you just understand more of the game since they have evolved to be waaay more RPG like. So yeah, if you're looking for a medium paced (from very slow paced like in red and blue) RPG game, you should go for Pokemon, also, you get to see all the new additions of Pokemons aswell as some old you recognize. So imho, I think you would enjoy playing Pokemon more than anyone else since it's all new to you but still a familiar concept.

thanks for the comment that helps. I have played Final Fantasy on other systems, but i don't want a game that i spend 100 hours raising 4 characters and have a million options of strategy to defeat bosses, while i read it is very difficult as well, and don't want to get frustrated on the plane.

I also read this pokemon version is fairly easy, is that true?

Yeah the difficulty is low/medium. At least in Black and White you had to train pretty hard if you raised 6 or more different Pokemons if you wanted to beat the Elite Four. But if you keep it simple, the game is also simple.

You have a difficulty option in Pokemon Black&White 2. I believe it's only available after beating the Elite Four, but atleast you can. Though Getting all the way to the E4 will take you more than a plane ride. I usually reach the E4 at the 60 hour mark.

To answer the main question.
You probably will. I also started way back with Pokemon Red and Blue, and every time again I find myself going back to the series when there's a new release. I didn't pick up Black or White 2 yet since I'm still playing 1. It's still the same formula, but better. More option, like Dentan mentioned the game is more RPG like than ever before and most importantly for you, Black and White 2 has many of the first gen Pokemons again. You'll be enjoying seeing some familiar faces popping up.

I've always enjoyed playing Pokemon, but it get VERY repetitive. And this is coming from a huge fan of Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and the like.

thanks guys. I haven't played in years, and have only played the Red and Blue versions. I have played more final fantasy and chrono trigger games in recent years, and those can get very frustrating to the point you put it down for days or weeks.

Or you get stuck on a boss, and want to go to a FAQ page for help, but cant on a plane. Pokemon is fun, and difficult in its own way, but not as frustrating i think.

I'm 22. In the beginning I played/loved Red and Blue. Skipped Gold and Silver. Played/loved Ruby and Sapphire. Played/loved Fire Red and Leaf Green. Didn't like Diamond and Pearl. Bought and finally played/loved Gold and Silver(the OG's). Played/loved HeartGold. Didn't like Black and White. Just bought Black2 and I'm loving it. It's a good game imo.

awesome thanks, i wanted to make sure if i am going to play this game again, that this black/white version 2 is the one to buy versus any other.

I also bought Zelda Ocarina of time since i loved it on N64, but i roughly remember the game so it's less fun than playing something more fresh.

I've been playing it all my life, but I think it's still good.
The series degraded from Kanto, Unova looked promising at the start, but then turned dramatically :|
The pokemon W&B 1 games didn't have as many features as it should have done, but W&B 2 is a HUGE improvement!

I'm going to the competition on march in Birmingham, so I'm not bored of it

I'd recommend buying Soul Silver or Heart Gold first. Definitely the best Pokemon games to date in my person opinion. Much more addicting for me than Black 2 and White 2.

I'm actually 19 years old and I'm not ashamed to say that I still get pretty excited whenever I hear about an upcoming Pok?mon game! I've been playing Pok?mon since I was a young child and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Even though you're gonna be on a long plane ride, a copy of Pok?mon Black 2 or White 2 (or probably any other Pok?mon title, for that matter) should be more than enough to tide you over for the ride there and the ride back home! I've clocked about 130 hours into Pok?mon White 2, beating the main story (which really ends after defeating the Elite 4) and the post-game content.

If you do decide to buy a copy of Black 2, you'll actually unlock a "key" for a harder difficulty setting upon defeating the Elite 4, whereas White 2 will unlock a key for an easier mode. You can, however, exchange these "keys" with other players to unlock the extra settings; I have White 2 but since my cousin bought Black 2, we was able to exchange our keys so I can also unlock the harder difficulty in my game (and he unlocked the easier difficulty). This game does have a lot of post-game content to play through so you can actually set the harder difficulty upon defeating the Elite 4 so the extra content will be harder, which is what I did.

I would have to agree with Rich though, in saying that Soul Silver has been my favorite Pok?mon game so far. Johto is definitely my favorite region, with all things considered, and I love the fact that the first Pok?mon in your party follows behind you! If you ask me, they should've kept that feature around until the end of time.

Honestly, I've never gotten the chance to play Ocarina of Time for the N64 but I plan to buy the 3DS version soon. I've heard some great things about it!

Yeah, honestly I feel the same. Pokemon Gold and Silver are my all time favorite Pokemon games so I recommend them over any Pokemon games. If you have the money and time to play them, you should definitely do that.

I'm seriously considering selling Black 2 on eBay. Just haven't been able to get into it like I have with almost any other 3DS game. Might as well get some money back and buy another 3DS game.

I've been the same way. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, and the amount of Pok?mon from all the different regions you can catch is pretty sweet. But for me, I haven't able to jump into it like I have with the other Pok?mon games. I just can't seem to find the charm that I found present in some of the other versions. Plus, having already played through White, it seems kind of like a repeat, even if this repeat has much more content and playing-time.

I might pick it back up one of these days. Right now, I have so many other games that are enticing me to play them!

I wish I could buy a 3DS XL just for a plane ride o_o But Pokemon can be enjoyed by all types of gamers, it just depends on how well you already understand it. Every game begins with the main professor telling you how to play anyways, so yes, go out and get Pokemon

By the looks of things, all I need to say is that I love Heart gold and Soul Silver, and I'll get more likes.

I'm 29 and I still enjoy Pokemon games. Some people my age think it's odd, but I think it's just because they played it when they were young, so they think of it as being a game for younger people. If they were to put Fifa and CoD down for a few minutes and give Pokemon another go, I think they'd definitely enjoy it.

Pokemon wasnt fun even when I WAS a kid.

Nintendo should release Magination through the GBC virtual console. Better than any Pokemon game ever made.

I don't know whether or not it was because I was younger when I first played through the older Pok?mon games, but I feel like the newer games are much easier. I don't remember losing a single battle during my run through White 2.

Honestly, I'm more than glad Game Freak is finally showing interest in adding difficulty options to their Pok?mon games. I really hope we see a future title that will allow us to choose a harder difficulty from the start, instead of having to wait until after the Elite 4.
