Question Questions for you Wii U owners/experts

I plan on getting a Wii U this Thursday. But first I have a few questions regarding internet connection and stuff that maybe you can help me with.

First: I have HughsNet (I hate it, but it is our best option at the moment). It's slow, has a 250MB a day limit, and gets even slower if there's many people online. But my 3DS will work with it. Sort of. I can't do online gaming, but I can view the eShop and watch videos in it, get SpotPass updates, and use the browser, even download stuff. It's just slow.

If I do get a Wii U, I can take it to church or to my sister's house to update it and do big downloads and stuff, but I don't want to be doing that very often.

Now that you know that:

Do any of you know how much data a Wii U uses on a daily basis?

Even if it doesn't go over the limit, will it work with my slow internet speed?

If it won't work at all, can I still use it and enjoy it without constant internet connection?

Thank you in advance. And even if you can't help, thank you for reading this far. I still plan on getting one, but it really stinks that I probably won't be able to use stuff like MiiVerse, Video Chat, and Nintendo TVii.

I can't answer the first two questions, but if you settle for solo/local multiplayer play, then you should get enjoyment from the Wii U without a constant connection.

Also consider the 1gb firmware update you must download out of the box.

OK, thanks. I guess if no one else has an answer I'll just get one and find out for myself.

Oh....is it required to use it? Or can I at least get acquainted with my new system before I take it somewhere?

You only need to update it if you plan on playing online or accesing online features.
I guess you could play a Wii U CD game out of the box without the update.

btw I don't own a wii u but have been getting all this info from a webpage I currently visit which post articles about it.

i majored in wii u in college, so trust me on this one;

the wii u uses a billion gigs a day

its very picky about speed, if it isnt ****ing fios then its not gonna work

every game is live streamed from the internet, so its gonna be hard to use it offline

Well, I got it. Thanks for the help, everyone. Guess I'm just going to be able to use much of the online features. Can I at least use the eShop?

Not unless you download the update...otherwise sure.

i'm in the same boat, i have WildBlue. the day one update is needed for online things and Wii backwards compatibility. i haven't done any online multiplayer, but i can browse the eShop and Miiverse easily enough. however downloading things WILL take forever, there isn't actually much below your daily limit. so to download games and updates, take it elsewhere. i'm not sure how much it uses on a daily basis, but it seems to be next to nothing if you aren't actively online. but there's no way to turn off the wifi unless you delete it in the settings (i never knew how much i loved that little switch on my 3DS).

hope that helps

Well, Miiverse, the eShop, the browser, and WaraWara Plaza work just fine. However really slow. I'm not even going to try to download. The Sonic Racing demo was about 5x my daily limit, so I'll just take it somewhere if I want to download stuff. Thanks guys!
