Exclamation Intuos5 brain freeze!

Okay calling all artists and digital artists! And anyone else that wants to read lol

I'm in a situation. My brain is doing that thing where I can't decide what I want. So I just sold my previous drawing tablet because I'm about to buy an Intuos5. I was really set on the medium version of it, but the problem is, now I'm not too sure anymore and kinda staring at the larger version.

The medium size is $323 on Amazon and has a 5.5 x 8 inch active area, which is similar to drawing on a little more than half a standard sheet of paper. Now that doesn't mean my pics will be that size, just that my strokes will be more wrist arcs and not shoulder to elbow.

The large size is $432.99 on Amazon and has an 8 x 12.8 in active area, which is more like full shoulder to elbow strokes on a full size piece of paper. I guess to explain, that means more full strokes in one movement and less half stroke then moving the pic to finish the remainder of the stroke. Not being able to do full screen strokes doesn't really both me a whole lot, but it's no doubt nice to do. Sounds confusing but people who draw and paint know what I'm getting at haha.

But I'm moving on from digital sketching and standard art to more so full blown digital painting (gonna switch up my style). The current program I use is Sketchbook Pro 6, which is super great no doubt, but then there's the super hyped, highly popular and fully packed Corel Painter 12...which is $249.

BUT on their site, they are having a Corel + Intuos limited time bundle thing, where you get a discount on buying both the program and tablet together. They are selling an Intuos5 Large + Painter 12 bundle for $569. Buying both separately is $681.99

So I'm wondering should I just get the medium and stick with my current sketch/paint program or do I move on to the large size and corel, despite price? Sometimes I hate my brain x.x

Well, why did you sell your old tablet in the first place?

What do you hope to get out of a new tablet that your old tablet couldn't do?

I have an Intuos 4 medium and really that is all you need.
Even my first tablet, Wacom bamboo, was good for painting.
Corel painter is definitely not a beginners program, the interface is convoluted and annoying. It runs slower than PS but I guess that wouldn't matter on a good pc. The price is also way too high.

Here are some painting programs:

I usually use Photoshop for anything serious and Paint Tool SAI for other stuff.
But it is whatever you like.

Old tablet was a Bamboo Capture. It was small and brush strokes felt awkward at times (the active areas was only 5.8 x 3.6 which is like drawing on an index card). Surface was harder and easier to scratch (though I never scratched it). And the pen didn't have a digital eraser, which irked me dearly.

Intuos5 has more hotkeys, which makes work go by faster without searching the screen (8 hotkeys plus a 4 mode touch ring), more nib options, a digital eraser, more comfortable surface, and just all around more tailored for art use.

Not to mention Bamboo brand only has 1024 levels of pressure and Intuos5 has 2048. Twice the pressure is a huuuge difference.

Those comparisons are for both medium and large Intuos5 tablets btw

I'm not a beginner digital artist either. I was using an Artrage Studio + Sai + Photoshop CS5 combo style before I switched to Sketchbook Pro 6
...I should go back to using Sai more that I think about it

I'd go for the Medium tablet unless you really feel like you're going to need the extra drawing space that the large tablet provides.

If you can create great art with the programs you already use, then I don't see how Corel Painter 12 is necessary.
