Yeah, Nintendo just knocked it out of the park. The 3DS game library is getting beefy...and I LOVE IT!

I can't even express how excited I am for this A Link to the Past spinoff. I love that game.

Looks great.

Glad it didn't turn out to be an Majora's Mask 3D remake as well.

Exploring on walls as a drawing is quite interesting.

I reckon it should have A Link To The Past on the cartridge.

I sort of wanted it to be a OoT/MM/TP 3D, not overhead. I am still happy though!

I love ALTTP so I'm hyped for this. Even though I'd prefer a new game using the OoT3D-engine. Oh well... 9000 times better than PH/ST style for sure!

The magic meter returns!

I hope the trend of only having a handful of tools to work with ends. LttP had quite a few. But just the return to top-down view (that isn't touch controlled) is enough for me to hype about.

EDIT: Watching the trailer again, it looks like the green bar is more likely stamina again. :'(

I knew it.

So cool that it's a sequel to A Link to the Past.

Maybe I should finally play that game....

Really wasn't expecting that. I had given up hope for a Zelda announcement but then, of course, here comes Reggie with that big Reggie grin.

Not just a brand new 3DS Zelda, but a top-down one AND A SEQUEL to one of everyone's most favorite Zelda games of all time?

I love these Nintendo Directs...best way to start the day and get hyped.

Anyone else notice that this Link very much resembles the character models of Links in games past? I'm watching the 3D trailer right now and it's lovely.

I honestly wanted a 3D zelda, however, this looks freaking amazing in the 3d trailer on the eshop. I cannot wait to try out a top down zelda, this one all around looks interesting and fun.

looks okay. at least it ain't majora's mask 3d. the 3d graphics are meh. i would have preferred four swords adventure graphics (not the Links but the background with a matching Link)

Where exactly will this fit on the timeline? Cause the Oracle games and Link's Awakening are supposed to be sequels to a Link to the Past.

I'm VERY disappointed that they went with a top-down view once again. Will we have to wait until the next generation handheld to get a real brand new 3D Zelda on a handheld? =/

BUT at least it wasn't the announcement of MM3D. At least we're getting something new, instead of a remastered port of a 13 year old game. Nintendo did not lie to us after all.

3ds is 2 years into its span, and the ds had 2 zeldas. They will most likely go 3d zelda next time. Though this game is going to be 3D in a sense height, something new.

I'm pretty damned psyched since anyone whose been following my thoughts on Zelda knows that I've been dying for them to go back to their design roots pre-OoT. While it would be awesome to see the world of LttP fully fleshed out as a 3D environment, I think that'd be better reserved for a console like the WiiU. I think 3D and top down Zeldas are both awesome, and I can see why they want to keep the handhelds to being top down.

I just hope they really go all out on this one. Show us what happened to Hyrule after Link defeated Gannon. Maybe they could have Ahrahgin....something something 'that spelling was always weird' return from the dead and try to revive Gannon or something along those lines. As long as they're able to recapture that epic feeling the original title had, I'm all for it.

I also think it'd be awesome if they either re-did the original game in this style since they're already creating the models for it, or at least have the original title as a playable extra.

They sure have a lot of those evil faces on the ground that Link hammers.

Think the evil faces have anything to do with AL2TP's villain?

Ahh, thanks for clearing that up for me. I only played ALTTP to a certain point, then stopped, and that was a while ago. I really should replay it while the SNES is still in my room.

The DS also was out for seven years before the 3DS came out.

There's no guarantee that they won't move onto the next generation handheld before they have time to release a new Zelda. Not saying that's what will happen, but there's no guarantee it won't. The DS lasted a very long time.

Top down style of gaming is probably my favourite genre, Im so excited! Glad they kept the old skool style of play with new elements added in, with the combination this will be a legendary game!

Yeah, I also saw that the worm boss from the third dungeon is back! Maybe we'll see more classic enemies and bosses return.

This is almost EXACTLY what I wanted from a Zelda 3DS game. Can't wait to see more.

Hopefully they get rid of the handholding that plagues the 3D games and start us out right in the middle of the action, just like ALTTP did.

I was actually hoping for a 3rd person over the shoulder zelda games like the previous but this is also good. Keep the traditional Zelda games for consoles.

Yep, like I said in another thread, I'd much prefer a unique style to the handheld games, instead of being "lite" versions of what's gonna be on the Wii U.

I think that has kind of become the pattern with the first party games, like 3d land, paper mario, mario kart to an extent, nsmb 2, and now this.

It appears odd and doesn't catch my overwhelming interest. Could be because I didn't hear much on the actual story or saw enough grasping images. But, perhaps as time goes on and it nears its release, I may change my mind and purchase it.

Color me incredibly excited. Other members have already expressed in words, what I think about it so I am not going to post the same thing...

If this game isn't fan service... I didn't bother watching the Nintendo Direct, did they give a release date?

This game alone would make the 3DS have a better holiday season compared to last year.

Game looks real good. Some don't like the art, but I think it is alright. Better than the Yoshi's Island 3DS art. Also, it is awesome buttons are being used again. The DS Zelda games would have been so much better without the touchscreen-only controls.

Some people wanted a new game. Some wanted a remake. Nintendo went both ways and is giving a new game in the world of an old game. I also remember Nintendo saying they would remake either MM or LttP. Well, they definitely did something with LttP.

Does anyone else not love the irony that Nintendo is using 3D functionality to bring flat 2D Link drawings to life

I hope since it's set in the same world as ALttP, it'll provide the same kind of difficulty the original had. My biggest gripe with the latest Zelda games is how easy they are.

In terms of first impressions and visuals, looks magnificent. I've missed 2D-Zelda and this is the perfect way to bring it to the 3DS. I happen to really like the art approach as well.

And I wasn't planning on buying an XL, but I have to say... if it's released with a Zelda-themed bundle, I won't be able to resist.

YEESSSSSSSH

This announcement came COMPLETELY out of nowhere, but lord I am ecstatic! It looks a little too similar to the first (another battle with Moldorm?) and Link looks a little... off, but man, Nintendo knows how to deliver!

I just want to say yuck. The style of Zelda sapped right out of it. Looks like the Zelda equivalent of New Super Mario Bros. Lots of dull browns, and all around just ugly as hell. Do not want.

Well, my opinion about this game is that I really hoped for a FP zelda game with Oot 3D engine but meh at least it is not sT or PH anyway it seemed kinda cool but I expected more by the announcement it deserved its own ND anyway I haven't plated A Link T T P so maybe that's why I don't love it

Not really a fan of this art style they're using.

But who knows? There hasn't been a "actually bad" Zelda yet (CDi notwithstanding) and I might just grow to like this art style just like how millions of people did with WW.

The colours certainly aren't as poppy as in the first game, but I have to disagree on it having lots 'dull browns.' Half the footage and screenshots take place in a dungeon with sort of an earth-theme, so of course there's going to be a lot of brown, lol.

What we saw of the overworld has just the right amount of vibrance, imo.

Looks like New Super Mario Bros. and Zelda had a baby. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I was just hoping that we'd finally get a 3D, cinematic Zelda game on a handheld. Nevertheless, it still looks like it could be fun -- the 3D was great from the downloadable eShop trailer and I really love the whole "turn into a drawing" mechanic, which could lend itself to some neat puzzles.

Thank you for being open-minded enough to make that connection as oppose to the others who are writing this title off already solely based on the art-style. When has the art-style ever really mattered in a Zelda game before? It's about the story and gameplay, and whether you like the art-style or not, you're going to get sucked in regardless. Also, keep in mind this is the first time we're seeing the title. Obviously the finished product will look better.

Well after analyzing this so much I think I will play the game (the Snes one) because I want to know its story and everything and I've like all Zelda's but Four Swords til know and as for the new it seems cool with the retreo things and all so I think I'm going to play it because it is a Zelda game but for what I've seen until know I don't think I will buy it for 40 bucks I mean I won't lend Nintendo 40$ for a game with a graphic engine that is 20 years old... Sure I will love to play it because it is part of Zelda's history but on reality am not really a nostalfan..

Actually art-syle has become something vastly important in a Zelda game. It sets the tone. You can usually guess the tone of the story you're gonna get.
An example of such a feat is Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

I'll be honest though, I don't mind the art-syle at all. I played all the zelda games so far and apart from the DS iterations (imo, the games are not bad but there's something I just dislike from them), it's been great.

its fun since you love WW; a game which was widely rejected at first due to how it looked

I don't know why people are hating on the art-style. I love the art-style. It reminds me of the sprites from A Link to the Past crossed with the models from Wind Waker, and the camera angle reminds me a lot of the underrated Phantom Hourglass and Spirits Tracks (without the boat and train), both of which I loved so much I finished 100%. (But then again I try to finish all my games 100% >_< )

So quitcha whining!

During the whole Nintendo Direct I was like... meh...
There wasn' any fascinating news (and I didn't like the new Mario party and Yoshi's island games)
I was kinda disappointed.
But then he said it: "Reggie has some last news to share with us before we end this."

And then Reggie comes and...BOOM...OMG NEW LEGEND OF ZELDA GAME....WOW!

REGGIE IS THE MAN!

Kinda excited but kinda disapointed

the graphics look too much the same ...I really hope the game won't be a lazy game ...

I want it to be intelligent, long and hard like Alttp and not just a phantom hour glass like in the world of Alttp

I would really prefer not to use the touch screen for controls

I would love to have great movie sequences and a great story

I would love to have my mind blown by the game mechanics

ONE GOOD POINT is I'm going to play Alttp again on my GBA now

OR I'll wait for the ALLTTP 3D CLASSIC REMAKE annoucement

Well I am also kinda afraid it will be a lazy game. I wanted to see something really epic in 3D.
Something like Skyward Sword. But I guess since the game is not another remake I must not be greedy.
I just hope its unique like every other Zelda game and not soulless as it seemed in the video.

Totally agree.
This is the kind of games that have mediocre sales and 8-10 years later everybody is like: "It was a classic, why didn't it sell more?"

Just like LoZ Link to the Past, the Metroid games, Yoshi's island (the first one) and others...

1. Yeah, I remember how link to the past was covered in normal mapping and lighting effects and changed camera angles.

2. What about anything shown would make you bring up phantom hourglass?

3. What touch screen controls? there are none except inventory and map switching. Why would you even think that?

4. I certainly hope it doesnt have any.

5. Did you watch the video?

Oh! The classic dungeon music! Arranged so beautifully! The stage feels just like the old death mountain tower, too. My inner child could not be happier.

Maybe I am old, but I never want a fully 3D Cinematic Zelda game made for the handhelds, to the detriment of the overhead view Zelda style.

The 3D Zeldas are best served on the consoles IMO, and should stay there. I do NOT want 2D Nintendo games to die, and from the looks of things, they wont.

These are instances where im glad Nintendo doesn't listen to parts of the fanbase!

That will probably be an unpopular opinion, but I obviously don't care

So is this a remake or a sequel? Either way, I'm happy. But I do want this game to be a challenge. Skyward Sword was too easy.

Damn, that redone boss battle music with the Moldorm boss just gives me the chills!

It's a shame that Moldorm doesn't heal when Link falls off anymore. It was annoying in the original first game, but that's what made him such a challenge

It probably has been for some people, but I don't have any interest in anything out recently besides Luigi's mansion. I regret buying Super Paper Mario Stickers too.

Regardless I don't care I will have the game I want by the end of the year. It will give me more time to beat a few others I had missed in the series.

I can't believe they remixed so much of LttP's music, I love every little bit. This game is definitely a must for me.

CVG Hands on preview: Clicky licky picky ficky shicky mawicky

TBH, whatever this gets rated or Whatever, a must buy for me. LTTP was a stunning game, provided me hours of fun dribbling at the tv screen.. i assume this will do the same for me on 3DS so its a must buy for me.

So, the environment is based on LTTP, overhead view but a 3D engine rather than sprites like Phantom Hourglass, and a gameplay gimmick that's similar to Crush.

How is it a gimmick if it's a major mechanic to the game? That's like saying Link's hat in Minish Cap was a gimmick. Some of you guys need to rethink your take on the term.

The crush mechanic thing works well with overhead games like ALttP, though. From what we've seen in that video it makes for some interesting viewpoint puzzles. I think being able to travel on walls will drastically change how the dungeons will be designed, similar to what the stamina gauge did in Skyward Sword.

It definitely isn't a gimmick.

I wonder how they are gonna introduce the fact that Link can turn into a painting, lol. Storywise, I mean.

It also annoys me a bit how they use the OoT Young Link voice tracks on him. I mean, this is a sequel to ALTTP, right? And based on the artwork and manga and all, Link must be at least 15 in it... why not give him a somewhat more mature voice? lol

I watched the video a lot of times and onw thing that dissapoints me is that after progressing so much with the sword controls (touch screen sword, wii motion plus sword) they went back to the basics slash with no combos or different slashes or even stabs, I would love that since the action when fighting with the sword is one thing I love about TLoZ... Though I love that you can do Sword Beams

Don't worry, I'm sure the next Zelda for the Wii U will have more limb flailing action than you can shake a stick at.

After watching some more videos, the game's really grown on me. The music sounds wonderful and the fast-paced gameplay is delicious.

dont you love how EVERY time a new Zelda is announced, people finds something to complain about even before playing the #@$%& game?

the saddest part is that lately the issue is always about 'how it looks'... come on, i thought we already learnt that lesson with wind waker!

You must not know me on here well enough. Never really been a huge Nintendo guy outside of a few games and one major series ( Zelda ). Still, that doesn't mean I can't enjoy my 3DS occasionally, and be perfectly fine with that.

Oh, man, they've really translated everything just about perfectly from ALttP to the 3DS.

This will be good.

I like it, I like it, but the design for link is really disappointing for me. The face and non-blonde hair just really annoys me.

they wanted to give him the classic look i think. A modern link ( toon link) wouldnt fit in quite well.

Yea, same for me. That's one main reason why I don't really like majora's mask. The stone tower temple is definitely really fun, but the rest were really dull and nothing special.

I know what you mean, to me this looks a little "kiddyfied" which just seems to be a trend. I really wish they had gone with a different style, they could have done some cool things with the 3ds and all its colors

I haven't played the old one, but it's pretty clear which one looks better. This is coming from someone with no experience with the game.

I was honestly wishing for 3D Zelda but I guess I'm OK with this. I think it presents Nintendo with the opportunity to appease fans with nostalgia as well as keeping somewhat in line with portable Zelda so far having the more top down viewpoint. I'll be picking it up, but I'm still a little disappointed it isn't going to be a 3D adventure. I don't have much hope that we'll get an original 3D Zelda title for 3DS though. Majora's Mask 3D will likely be the next portable Zelda title after this on.

True, but the Link from alltp had more of an adult look to him

The one on the left. You can see the whole 3d aspect of the how the region would really look from bird eye view. You can even see the curve in the bottom hill with the shadow. And the trees are way more crisp and real looking.

So is this going to be a retail game or is it just downloadable?

I'm super excited! I consider aLttP to be the second best Zelda game so I'm hoping this will turn out great.

This is actually the first game made in the death timeline since OoT!

Watched the 3D trailer like 10 times now. Really looks awesome.

To you people saying the original looks better, go play it for yourself and enjoy the flat ugliness. 3D suits this view really good. I also love the overdone colors.

Just a thought/want...

As an easter egg, I want Nintendo to allow us to play the original A link to the Past with the new graphics and effects. That would mean they have to recreate all the dungeons and what not to the new style. And it would be unlocked after you beat the game.

It would justify the $40 price point a lot more IMO. In addition to being awesome.

I don't see that happening, especially because of the fact That a lot of the areas are going to be really similar in the game as is.

Albeit a different look from the other games but people doubted the aesthetics of Wind Waker on release, and that was awesome! Still a day 1 release must have purchase queue up all night game for me. Can't wait!

The art is indeed disappointing. It's not so much the style itself that bothers me, but the execution. All the textures are samey and lack detail; everything is sort of muddy. Just compare the cliffs in the LTTP screenshot to the cliffs in the new game. Eww. And yes, I have watched the 3D trailer, and no, it isn't really much different from the screenshots. And I doubt it's early enough in the game for a graphical overhaul. But hey, maybe there's still time to touch some stuff up and make it more pleasing.

But I'm totally on board with Hyrule-glyphic Link. And the gameplay looks awesome, assuming Nintendo avoid their inexplicable tendency toward miserable 30 minute tutorials that everyone hates.

After NSMB2, all Nintendo releases are retail and downloadable from the e-Shop.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what is so bad about what some people are saying about the cliffs? If anything, they look better with the 3d because you can see where they alope and it has a crisper look to it. It's just really hard to say that you guys aren't just basing not liking the new style because of nostalgia.

I'm kinda hoping they have a 3D Classic LTTP release at the same time. Like what they did with Kid Icarus. It would be a pretty nice pre-order bonus.

Well I mean if its a sequel you'd think they would want people to play it again before playing the sequel. So it seems like that would be there best bet.

I definitely want aLttP on my 3DS in 3D! Especially since my SNES is on the edge of death.

I'm starting to get a uneasy feeling about this game. Everything I've seen has been pretty much confirmed to be exactly the same as the original except with that wall painting thing. I hope this is a new game. I hope the overworld is added to, expanded, and changed. I hope that their are new dungeons and items and what not.

It looks fun, the speed of it is really appealing, but right now I'm awfully worried.

We've only seen a minute of footage and one dungeon. Calm down dude.

Nintendo said it will have new dungeons. That will hopefully be the only dungeon the same as before, with some changes. As for an expanded overworld, Nintendo could do something about this. They could create a 3rd dimension to go with the 3D aspect.

I think the demo was just a demo. Like the mini dungeon they had for the SS demo.

I think it is going to be like Portal 2. Where the begin is a lot like Portal to establish a connection (so maybe the first 3 dungeons will be very similar to the pendent dungeons in aLttP) but after a while it would move away and becomes its own thing. At least that is what I hope.

I bet everyone is going to flip out if Link uses the Master Sword. Otherwise all those years of defending the line "and the Master Sword sleeps FOREVER" where worthless.

lol, it's obviously a new game. Having a huge hammer to whack those huge diglets with wasn't there in the original, the wall thing obviously wasn't, nothing of the dungeons look similar appart from the boss battle.

He is using the Master Sword. In the parts where the sword shoots a beam at full health, just like the Master Sword does in ALTTP, the sword handle is suddenly blue instead of yellow like in the other sequences. Has to be the Master Sword. ALTTP ending ruined bwaaaaaaaaaah

Although I am extremely happy to see my favourite Series (LoZ) having a new game for the 3DS, I am kinda worried as well.
The last LoZ game (Skyward Sword) managed to achieve something no other Zelda game has achieved so far. Immersion. I mean, yeah, I always liked the storylines and the different people and sidequests in the Zelda games but with Skyward Sword it was the first time the story was so well written and the characters so attractive.
I really wanted to save Zelda and the world! I wanted to explore the colorful environments and try out the game's new mechanics.

I don't wanna sound greedy but I believe this game will not give me the same feeling because of the perspective.
It will be a Zelda game, yes. It will be a fun game, yes. It will be one of the best games on the 3DS, yes. But it won't be as good as its predecessor.

The 3DS has proven (with Ocarina of Time) that it is more than capable of supporting a really heavy game. I would be much happier if they had announced a Skyward-sword-style game for the 3DS. It would utilize the 3D effect much better than the top-down perspective does. I saw the 3D trailer and it is really good, but I mourn for all the lost potential a 3rd person pespective Zelda game would have.

Still I want to tone that I love the fact that a new Zelda game is coming for the 3DS.

If they were to make a 3D Zelda on 3DS, the it would be overshadowed by the 3D Zelda games on Wii and Wii U. I want a unique experience on a handheld, not the shadow of one. The handheld games have always been about 2D, and I wouldn't like to see that kind of game die out. The gameplay in itself will be immersive enough for me.

That's just my thoughts.

I completely understand, but from the only one example we have on the 3DS (Ocarina of time 3D) we can say for sure that not only the game doesn't get overshadowed but it upgrades and enhances the original game so much that I actually found it more enjoyable.

The 3D effect alone can give life to any game if made properly. This should be in my opinion the main selling point of more 3DS games. The only game that did it right was Super Mario 3D Land, which is clearly better than the 2D New Super Mario Bros 2.

Just imagine flying above Skyloft or travelling in the lively environments in 3D...
I am not asking for a remake of Skyward Sword, just for a similar game. For once they really got it right, they mustn't abandon this artstyle.

Anybody can use 3D in a 3D game, but when you add 3D to a 2D game, things get interesting, and different mechanics open up. This is what I think Nintendo was going for.

I really hope so. It hasn't worked out well up until now, they did nothing to implement 3D in New Super Mario Bros 2 for example.

But NSMB2 was a well-designed, fun, cash-in, whereas just from the trailer you can see that this game uses 3D to an advantage.

That's what I am trying to say... More games have to use 3D this way. Not just... "oh we are making a 3DS game, shove some 3D in their faces and players wll be happy".

On top of that, I really hope they utilize 3D in many more ways. If they aren't gonna make a 3rd-person Zelda 3DS game, at least make this one memorable. (I am looking at you LoZ spirit tracks!)

I actually enjoyed Spirit Tracks, because of it's uniqueness. The story was nice in it too, but I know that Spirit Tracks is a game you either love or you hate.

Anyway, I think this game sets itself apart from the previous DS Zeldas by a long way.

I found spirit tracks mediocre, I don't hate it, it just doesn't stand out.
Travelling with the train is repetitive, there is no real upgrade since phantom hourglass and for other reasons.

Don't get me wrong, Link To The Past is my second favourite LoZ game of all time (Skyward Sword is first of course), I am just worried it won't stand up to my expectations. But on the other hand there is no point in saying that before even trying out the game, right?

I'm like 10-15 hours into Spirit Tracks and although some of the stylus / touch puzzle solving is cool, I really over all don't enjoy being forced to use the stylus. The game also feels more linear than other Zelda games. I will still beat it but I'm not SUPER in love like I usually am.

Anyway, I'm so pumped for this game.

Yes, the game did not have an open world. You were on rails and just gave the impression of having an open world.

Im just glad we are back to using BUTTONS. Honestly, I hated both Phantom and Tracks because of the control scheme. When Twilight Princess came out, I bought the Gamecube version, because I didn't want the waggle gimmick in my game.

Anyone expecting a "Skyward Sword" level of immersion in a title on a system that does not utilize the gimmick that helped make Skyward Sword "immersive" is going to be let down. Its just not possible, although I never really felt immersed in Skyward Sword anyway. The controller took away the immersion for me.

I agree with the upper part. It was really awkward controlling link using the stylus.

I really liked the controls of Skyward Sword although it is not the only factor that immersed me into the game. As I mentioned, the chracters' attractiveness played te biggest role for me.

Of course I can not expect the same level of immersion from a handheld game, still, Ocarina of Time 3D was a pretty memorable experience (I have played the original version on N64 as well) and I don't wanna get something worse than that.

technically only 1 in a thousand people are suppose to see the room by accident, of course you can you can glitch the game to get there.

it was a nintendo power competition
the winner would get their name into alttp, and it was in that secret room

there was something about 2 developers or something, or NP and alttp's devs, i dunno... and they kept trying to get the room into the game, but the devs kept removing it
so i think they compromised by making it harder to get to

thats what i remember from youtube

I've been seeing several screen shots that seem to be exact copies of LttP overworld areas. I'm unsure if I'm looking at screen that were released as examples of the graphics, a remake of LttP using the new engine that will be some kind of bonus release, or if the new game itself really does exist in a game field that is lifted directly from LttP, in a similar fashion to the "second quest" of the original NES game, which would be unprecedented in Zelda games and a fantastic nostalgia trip.

The hat in Minish Cap was that game's gimmick, yes. The basic gameplay of Legend of Zelda is a big overworld with several dungeons that you go in, get a weapon or tool, and fight a boss. Pretty much all the of the games after the first two have added at least one additional gimmick, or mechanic if you prefer, to mix up the formula a little more. LttP had the Light world/Dark world thing. OoT had the time travel, as did Oracle of Ages. Oracle of Seasons had, well, you know. Majora's Mask did it as a time loop. Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass turned the overworld into islands. Spirit Tracks made it a train theme, plus the thing with Zelda.

I call it a gimmick because it's integral to the game it's in but does not become a key element to the series as a whole.

Define "better". Nostalgia counts for a lot these days, or you wouldn't be seeing games intentionally made in a 16-bit sprite style.

The entire purpose of the room is to handle glitches, nobody is "supposed" to see it, by accident or otherwise. If the game loses track of where you are supposed to be, instead of crashing it drops you into that room.

Wait they're going to announce a LttP remake as a 3D classic using the same engine as the new one

I had a feeling it would be "A Link To The Past" sequel/remake when Aonuma said it the new game was a "continuation of past efforts."

Initially, I was sort of disappointed it wasn't a 3d Zelda. But after seeing a bit more of it, I'm pretty excited to play it. I've never played A Link to the Past, so I can't say I have any connection to the world. Though it is pretty cool it's taking place in it.

I also seem to remember Miyamoto saying he was considering an ALttP remake, maybe this is 'that' in a sense?
This may also bode well for a MM3d for those who have been wanting one(like me). Either way, this game looks quite good.

Nice find! I think this game is going to be brilliant regardless of whther its a sequel/prequel or a stand alone game to ALTTP. The whole light and dark thing would be a great return for me, because it played an integral part of ALTTP. Tbh i also think its a good thing, alot of the younger generations would have never played this, but now they finally get the chance to see an earlier Zelda, the way it used to be.

Also, the shifting from 2D to 3D thing reminds me of Paper Mario from Wii; It would be very strange to see that kind of mechanic in a Zelda game, but if it adds to it, then i don't mind. hardly something you can capture in a bottle, tho

Well, most of the new Zelda games have some kind of new piece of equippment or power.
Bu with this one they keep on bragging about this "becoming a drawing" thing and I am afraid we wll be obliged to use it constantly.
It's cool and all, but I don't want all the game to be tied with this. I want some adventure and this mechanic leans towards heavy puzzle-solving.

This will be my first game in the Zelda series, is that a bad thing?

It looks awesome, though.

No, the mix of 2D and 3D seems as a great opportunity to attract newcomers!
I think it will be a really good first experience.

Same, whilst the whole new "2d" thing can add different elements to puzzles, I wouldn't want the game to rely to heavily on that:- obviously, putting the feature in for one puzzle would be a waste, but i like good ol' fashioned Zelda play - puzzles, jingles and rupees!

I havent played any handheld Zelda since Awakening, but am i the only one thats a bit worried about the amount of zoom in the game? the perspective is quite limited, you can barely see any level layout but more whats right next to you.

The thing im fearing is that the game might end up dwelving too much on being some mix between fan service for the ALttP fans and extremely easy accesibility for newcomes with maybe a heavy emphasis on the "hieroglyph action" to solve most of the puzzles and to quench the illusion that the game might be more linear & overall smaller in size overworld wise by having a more intense and extremely zoomed in camera. Im sure the game will be solid by launch but the close camera makes it feel really cramped.

I kinda had the same thing with Resident Evil 6. They decided to zoom in the camera to a ridiculous amount which quenched the chance to admire the environments and rooms unlike in the older RE games at the sacrifice at making it more action and intense due to the closer zoom

Since you have played links awakening you must have been through much worse than this. I find the zoom and the camera angle just fine..

How are most Zelda games played anyway?

The 2D drawing thing just seems like another special item, except maybe with more long-term use.

Dungeon --> item --> new dungeon --> new item --> new dungeon --> new item, etc

His words don't really carry a lot of weight for me though, since he's been saying this for every Zelda game since he's been the lead director.

im not sure what you mean? Links Awakening had a overworld scaled to a smaller size than ALttP but the individual screens usually highlighted a full house or accesible building like in ALttP but with limits in the overworld obviously. Also the dungeon room most of them filled 1 entire screen in LA. From what i can see though is that the camera in the new game seems to be scrolling in all parts even in the dungeons, it gives it a cramped feeling imo where you cant distinguish the overworld areas compared to ALttP. Travelling the overworld especially if its huge will make it a bit of a chore imo with the amount of zoom the camera has. Im not sure how the last 2 handheld zeldas camera was like but i did try PH for a little while and it seemed to be something similar to the new game, I wouldnt midn this camera if it was just a new zelda game but since its a sequel or prequel to ALttP im a bit dissapointed with this design choice, i think while it will prob be a solid game on its own it might be a element that split the fans of the original game

I have no idea what you're worried about. Yes, Link's Awakening and the Oracle games were similar to the original NES game in that the overworld and dungeons were divided into units that fit the screen, while Link to the Past, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks had areas that scrolled as you traveled. It doesn't change the gameplay at all.

Im really hoping that they include A Link to the Past as a bonus after you beat it, in the new style graphics.

I wouldn't count on that, but maybe have in the original graphics.

Dunno if this has already been said, but a LttP GBA VC pre-order bonus would be nice.

Meh, I don't care about getting the original untouched. In the new style would be nice, but to play the original I prefer to just boot up my SNES.

A Link To The Past is one of my most favourite games of the past and A Link Between Worlds is one of my most anticipated games.

You know I just realized that A Link to the Past already had a sort of sequel. Which was "The Legend of Zelda: The Ancient Stone Tablet"

I wonder if they are going to consider that game when releasing this, maybe use elements from it, like the collection of tablets like A Link to the Past used crystals.

I'd rather get a new four swords with this game (although a re-port of Link to the Past would be nice too). GBA had a remake of this game and it came with four swords. This game is a sequel to that and the last two new Zelda games on handheld had online/download play Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks so maybe I'll finally see four swords again.

To clarify I only want the new Zelda game to come with four swords if it has online or at the very least download play which seems possible being the last 2 new ones had a multilayer experience mini game. If they won't give that I'd rather have a re-port of Link to the Past with 3d graphics (being we already have a 2D one for GBA and you can buy it on Wii e-shop).

Played the demo at PAX Prime.

According to the screen you could hold up to 9999 rupees, so that is pretty different. Not to mention since bombs and arrows are infinite, and there are no magic potions, I can't imagine what you'd be spending it all on.

What I thought was weird is that there was barely a line for A Link Between Worlds, but Wind Waker HD had a huge line, why would people want to wait in line for something they have probably already played?

I played both at Gamescom and it was the other way around. The line for A Link Between Two Worlds was far longer then for Wind Waker. I have to say I'm really excited for the 3DS game and the new feature where you can become totally flat on the wall and become like a painting is really cool and an ingenious play mechanic. A Link To The Past is probably my favourite Zelda game and I'm really looking forward to this sequel.

Actually, I think I know what you're spending all the rupees on:

Spoiler!

Also, just in case, I was kidding about the game being ruined. I think those mechanics will be interesting.

How do you know that we'll have infinite arrows in the actual game and not just for the demo?

Someone mentioned that you have a stamina bar that depletes itself over time when you use the bow or other items.

I mean they could change it, but so far everything has shown that using bombs, arrows, and magic items all take from the same stamina meter, and that is exactly how it was in the demo.

So until otherwise stated that is what I believe the final game will be like.

How was the actual gameplay though? How fast did the stamina bar regenerate?

pretty fast (10 to 15 seconds?), though a lot of the items almost completely used it up.

Arrows took about a third of the bar, bombs about half, and this magic wand they gave you for the demo took almost all of it. So basically it could use them often, but you definitely couldn't sit there and just spam bombs constantly.

However, since you have infinite you could probably run a kind of swordless run for the game.

Just seen link between worlds on nintendo direct, so excited for this!! Cut scenes look epic. Looks like we could have a new protagonist in Hilda (maybe a dark world version of zelda?). What do you guys think?

We're talking about Legend of Zelda fans here. You're surprised that they complain about everything?

I'm happy they're returning to the original LoZ's roots :3 Hopefully the non-linear approach means no handholding... But I'm probably being too wishful...

Yeah, I was gonna say it's like the first zelda in terms of having to find the dungeons. I'm excited for it personally.

Im sorry, this is bothering the **** out of me. Its like the 3rd post I have seen with the misspellings.

Its "QUIET" and "HEAR." That is all

I am very excited for this game, and the "non linearity" is something I am looking forward to. I hope it is a great "change" to the formula.

I like the new shop idea, always good to mix things up.

I'm just hoping it doesnt result in a lot of having to go back to the store because I didn't have the right item. That was a huge issue with the bosses in Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

It looks like we're going to see a different form of the zoras this time around. In the newest trailer you see a fat river zora queen eating a fish. What does this mean? Are all river zoras enemies or can they talk etc. What are your thoughts?
