I am waiting on one. Ugh.

I don't see one coming for awhile, but I think the first most likely one would either be a zelda one for wind waker or one for either of the two big mario games.

Has Nintendo ever released limited/special editions of their home consoles? I can't think of any right now, but I didn't follow gaming or Nintendo that much in the past.

There was the dk64 green n64.

Wii's Red and Blue editions were limited. N64 had a gold system. GCN had Metal Gear and Pokemon XD editions. Not sure about even older consoles different color schemes, but I know at least the SNES had several different pack-in games.

If there have only been two generations ago, I wouldn't hype myself over buying a limited edition WiiU as a release like that seems unlikely.

EDIT: If there have been several scratch what I said. It'll probably happen. When is entirely another matter...

The Wii only came out with a couple different colour options following its initial release (Black, Blue for Olympics, and Red for 25 yr anniversary) and the Gamecube had the silver/platinum version.

As for the N64, it came in every freaking colour of the rainbow plus Pokemon and Pikachu themed ones as well.

I'm hoping the WiiU comes out with a bundle/special edition release because I wouldn't buy one otherwise.

I don't see this anytime soon. There are already 2 dfferent types of WiiU out there.
What we are gonna see in the future is bundles, as many games will come that will get promoted by Nintendo and will be system sellers, such as pikmin3, mario kart and smash bros.

Though I would really like to see a pikmin themed WiiU.
