Default Nintendo knows that other people think the Wiiu is underpowered.

Iwata Is Aware That People Believe That Wii U Is Underpowered And Says This Is A Misunderstanding | My Nintendo News
Based on the article, Iwata, a head of the Nintendo company realizes the bad rep that the Wiiu has gotten because of the stigma of it not being powerful. He says, however, that Nintendo is going to try and break that stigma by showing others what the Wiiu can do. What do you think?

Well, I don't think it's important.
Higher performance machines don't mean better quality. Or a better gaming experience.
I think nintendo has proven that time after time.

The WiiU is underpowered compared to PS4 and that's a fact. No matter what they do, no matter what games they make it'll still be less powerful than a PS4. And when the next Xbox is announced it will be officially be the less powerful of the big three. This in no way means it will have worse games or anything though. Graphics aren't the most important thing for games anyway.

The Xbox hasn't even been shown yet. I know lots of people like to jump to assumptions because of the Wii generation, but let's wait before we start claiming what are facts and what aren't. I've heard rumors all over the place about the Nextbox/720. (Disclaimer: I'm not saying the Wiiu will out power the Xbox; I'm saying that we shouldn't jump to conclusions.)
Anyways, it doesn't matter about how strong the Wiiu is, as long as it can still compete with its competitors, but Nintendo needs to show the public that the Wiiu isn't some toy.

Given that Nintendo just recently updated the firmware to improve the OS, I'm sure there is more to come. Probably not anything to overpower the PS4, though. I figured that the WiiU wasn't in its top form at launch, just like the past couple of consoles released since 2006. So this statement doesn't come as a surprise to me.

Obviously it's underpowered to the other two, everyone knows that. I don't think it's nearly as underpowered as so many think though, and nintendo knows that they need to use their strengths to make up for their weaknesses to win.

I doubt it will look as awkward next to PS4/Nextbox as the Wii did to 360/PS3 though. At least Wii U is powerful enough to present neat HD graphics, that was the huge step that the Wii lacked.

Still looking forward to seeing pretty HD Zelda and Mario. I hope the full power of the machine is made good use of there

False. If you can get a great game with great graphics it makes the game quality a whole lot better. Have a good game with horrible graphics developed for next-gen then the quality and sales are going to be low.

Now that Nintendo knows this they can start working towards fixing it.

Except you can't really fix such a hardware "flaw"

What if it is a great game with decent, acceptable graphics? Why do graphics now either have to be horrible or amazing?

Graphics is power, but power is not just graphics. Framerate, smoothness, etc.

Hey, if Iwata wants to try to prove us all wrong, I say let him. I'd love to see what the U's fully capable of.

Graphics (for me) only go so far. If they can deliver a game that looks as pretty as that Zelda tech-demo at last year's E3 and make it fun to play; I'd much rather take that over another glorified, generic shooter with stale gameplay on the PS4 or 720.

If they're looking to change that perception then why are they mainly working with Japanese developers, small ones like Platinum and Atlus at that? I don't get the logic.

By graphics I mean what a console can pull off on that department while of course offering smooth performance. So yeah, framerate does count. I didn't think I should take it as a separate thing.

Actually, it's impossible for that to be false. It's his opinion. But you are right that the sales go down in some cases. People who care about Graphics and loading screens will most likely not buy it until it goes down in price or they might not at all.

I believe that the Wii U will be able to pull off amazing graphics, just takes the right kind of developer to do so..

The problem is, NINTENDO showing us how powerful it is, doesn't really matter because those games will ONLY be on the Wii U. If the console isn't powerful enough to get the multiconsole releases of the PS4 and next Xbox, then it wont matter to gamers, and the Wii U will be relegated to being a machine that people buy only for Nintendo franchises yet again...

Personally, Im just glad its finally HD and at least as powerful as a PS3. As I am one of those customers that will eventually buy it, because of the exclusive games. I don't give a crap about multiconsole releases on consoles because I have a strong PC and prefer to play them on that.

The only way for iwata to really convince everybody is to throw out specs and throw out performance numbers of there hardware box.

But there is a reason why they don't. Because it doesn't work in there favor. If there was something to brag about they would be the first to shout it off the roof tops.

They will probably resort towards making a resident evil revelation game "small area's" and compare it towards a full blown mmo on the ps4. And say "see we can deliver the same visuals". A lot of people will eat that nonsense up for breakfast.

High performance doesn't work well with low energy draw and small spaces.

oh and to the performance = graphics only people.

Some game types require performance.
