Default Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Magnagate and the Infinite Labyrinth Announced for the 3DS

Virizion, Gurdurr, Hydreigon, Co***rigus, Amoonguss, Cinccino, Dunsparce, Espeon, Umbreon, Excadrill, Rampardos, Pelipper, and Kecleon will also make appearances in the game.
The game will feature an AR scanner: your objective is to scan round objects in the real world, with the magazine citing things like fried eggs, clocks, CDs/DVDs, tires, and old people?s heads. Finally! Mienfoo... Oshawott... dream team.

I do hope there is an option to play as the other Pokemon besides Pikachu. Kind of strange to force Pikachu on you now.

They already announced that this winter ther will be a pokemon mystery dungeon.

It's something like, "maze"...

It will be in full 3D and feature pokemon from Unova.

I'm pretty sure there are. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to include Pokemon like Dunsparce, Espeon, Umbreon, Rampardos, Pelipper, or Kecleon to run the shops/be NPCS, and not have other Pokemon in their region show up. Pikachu's even playable. :/

Anyway, I can't wait for this to be released into the states. I'm considering buying Explorers of the Sky since I regret selling Explorers of Time and Blue Rescue Team.

I wonder if they'll allow you to customize your team at end game like they did with Blue Rescue Team? For example, being able to play as Zapdos by yourself in the HUB and dungeons.

I'm kind of wishing they'd do what they did for the DS and GBA: I was hoping they'd release two of them, one on the DS and one on the 3DS (like when Red and Blue Rescue Team came out). Still, I've got a 3DS so I'm not too bothered. I probably would just end up getting the DS version if it were made.

Glad to see they are finally putting games on the 3DS. I would have been mad if it was for the DS.

So what is this game about? It seems like an interesting game (and it's pokemon), but I've never heard of it before.

I have one of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games for DS... maybe I should get to playing it again.

Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on this. Great to see that there's finally a handheld Pokemon game that utilizes 3D models. I wonder if this will carry over into the mainline series too...?

Trailer for those that haven't seen: ??????????????????????????????? ?PV - YouTube

Models look great and it doesn't look like Pikachu is forced on you. If this game features online co-op, that'd be a huge step up!

This as opposed to Rumble blast and Black/White 2

3D Pokemon models in a portable! And so far I've loved the mystery dungeon series.
Definitely looking forward to it, more than Black/White 2.

That trailer is great. The game looks beautiful.

I'm surprised it's coming out just later this year in Japan. The last PMD game, Explorers of Sky, came out six months in America after it did in Japan, so if this comes out in the East in December, there's a good chance it'll be out around spring or summer 2013 in the West. What a wait.

Pokemon games usually are the quickest to get localized. Main games usually come out in September in Japan, and get localized by March. I sure hope this gets localized just as fast. PMD is an amazing spin-off, and more people should try it.

It looks great! But the way how the dungeon looks with the traps and everything seems strange. Probably it's because I'm not used to seeing the wonder tiles and traps up close! I can't wait!!

By the way, won't this be called PMD 4? Japan had the exclusive WiiWare games and a friend of mine said it doesn't count because they aren't full-fledged games, just WiiWare.

There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that PMD is the best spin-off series for Pok?mon; I'm definitely excited to hear more about this game and I can't wait to get my hands on my own copy. I was excited about getting BW2 next month, but hearing about this is amazing.

The models... They're beautiful.

Can someone tell me why IGN and GameSpot gave PMD such a low rating!? I personally think they were the best Pokemon spinoffs, and they're not even bad games! It pisses me off -_-

It might be most people fail to realize is that:

Review= Opinion, you judge a game based on how YOU played and felt it deserved not others.

PMD was considered a flop, but I love it a bit more than the main games.

There are a lot of games that are considered terrible, that I enjoy

Well, as long as you like it, there's no reason to get upset over the opinion of others. For example, Pokemon Rumble Blast is totally awesome in my opinion, despite IGN's low score. As long as you're having fun, you shouldn't become obsessed with the opinions of others. I only read reviews for overviews of what the game is, not the person's actually opinion. So far, things have gone well for me.

Oh god Pokemon Conquest was brilliant.

It only needed online to be perfect.

Or a mode where it randomizes everything(who is your warlord, who are the warlords for all the worlds/who you are sided with/what pokemon you have etc...), that would have been awesome too...

And for the love of god Mystery Dungeon, please do NOT force us to take that stupid personality test to decide who I will be. I want to be Cyndiquil, I am not a freaking Turtwig. I don't even know how the games judge this. If anything, make the quiz decide your partner and allow you to pick your own dang Pokemon.

Really I find it more useful to watch gameplay footage than read reviews from other people. At least then you can see it in motion with your own eyes, it's the second best thing aside from playing a demo.

I have loved the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games in the past however many sources give the games poor rating. That won't change a thing though.

I always thought the quiz made sense for Mystery Dungeon, since you're a human who's become a Pok?mon; it was a way to make your "personality" (your answers to the survey) decides what Pok?mon you become. Sure, the questions aren't nearly specific enough to properly quiz for your actual personality, but it's probably the best option the developers had. It would be nice if they just let you choose the Pok?mon you wanted to be, but I don't feel like that'd be in the true nature of Mystery Dungeon.

If there's a certain Pok?mon you'd rather play as, you can continue to redo the test or look up the right answers online, which would be the much easier option. I definitely look forward to playing as Tepig and I might use Oshawott as my partner (or Squirtle, if that's an option).

HELL YES.
I was seriously considering not getting it solely on being forced to be Pikachu. If this game keeps as protagonists all the Pokemon you could be from Explorers of Sky plus Unova pokemon (Starters and some more), it would be perfect. I love the storyline of these games, looking forward to it!

Announced for North America, coming on March 24. The title is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity 3DS. There goes my one shoulder button -.- I would use the start button for moves but the start button on the 3DS is horrible.

So far, the only thing I dislike about this game is the severely limited number of Pokemon you can be, when compared to the choices of Explorer's of the Sky. I wish that they'd at least include the previous starter Pokemon...

Same, but when the game was first announced it was rumored you could only be Pikachu, so at least there is a choice.

Rumble blast is more like a 'brawling' type of game.
This is a 'dungeon crawler' type of game.

Rumble (speaking for Pokemon Rumble for WiiWare, not Rumble Blast) uses a real time system without any actual strategy aside from type-advantage. You pick a Pokemon and then you run through a level while repeatedly mashing the attack button. You can't level up, but you recruit stronger Pokemon to be used in some tournament, and that's it.

Mystery Dungeon, on the other hand, has far more depth and complexity.
In the Mystery Dungeon games, you and your partner(s) must either make it to the end of a dungeon, or complete a specific mission or set of missions in a dungeon. It gets the name "Mystery Dungeon" because every time you enter a dungeon, it has a randomly generated layout. Unlike Rumble, it uses a grid-based movement system, and is strategic. All movement in dungeons is turn based. Pokemon level up, learn moves, and they can be evolved. There are items with many different effects; varying missions; you can recruit and play as other Pokemon; an engaging story; if you faint in a dungeon, you can send out a call for help to another player, which will let you continue from where you fainted. Basically, it's like Pokemon without the trainer.

As you can see, there is a huge difference between Rumble and Mystery Dungeon, but it's just too much for me to cover. You'd probably be better off getting more details from Serebii or Bulbapedia.

No.

I think they're trying to shove Gen V down the throats of the people who dislike Gen V. It's annoying, but I suppose that the people who hate Gen V can play as Pikachu.

Well as long as we are granted the ability to play as whoever after the main quest, I won't really care, I never wind up playing as a pokemon I like anywayMeowth? Really?

Actually, are there those silly quizes this time or can I actually just pick who I want to play as for my starter this time around?

They let you pick, but, like I said, it's between five Pokemon.

Well, I'm glad that somebody finally made an actual discussion thread. I guess people just aren't talking about this game too much, which is a shame. I'm really enjoying it so far.

Played the demo and surprisingly liked it. Never play a mystery dungeon game yet because it looked complicated, this one seems more accessible and does have a nice story.

Well, Mystery Dungeon has always been a really plot-heavy series, but I'll agree that this version has quite a bit more dialog than the past games. It can get a little annoying at times and I have skimmed over the occasional conversation, but it's never bothered me too much.

This one really did seem to have a lot more Dialog than usual, but it was an enjoyable game, the plot is what makes this game so interesting.

Probably way late to the party but I finally started playing and I really like it.

Definitely the best in the series.

Well that's completely opposite from what I've heard. I wanted to get this game since I liked Red Rescue Team but I thought the demo was boring.

They say, what's not broken, don't fix it!

And that's exactly what they did with MD:GtI. They also added some great 3D visuals and 3D environments making the game even better.

BUT!
Most of the pokemon that appear in this game are from the 5th generation, which I personally hate.
All the main pokemon from which you can choose at the beginning are also from the 5th gen (except for Pikachu).
It forces players to play with pokemon from the 5th gen. This reduces variety and drives the gamers who don't like the the 5th gen (like me) away.

That's all I wanna say...

I'm not sure what the demo covered but it's definitely better than Red Rescue Team.

My favorite feature:
By completing requests, you earn materials that are used to build various structures like Oran Berry fields, training dojos, item shops, etc.. within "Paradise".

I actually feel motivated to do requests now.

This game was overall fun but unfortunately after playing it I've come to the conclusion that I'm probably never buying a Mystery Dungeon game ever again.

Managed to finish the storyline for this game before Animal Crossing comes out.

Like with the other Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, after the story is over I don't have much interest in playing anymore. It was a decent game either way.

Just like every mystery dungeon game, it's a huge dissapoitntment. Gamefreak had the chance to get rid of the repetetive beyond belief gameplay. The only good things about the game are the graphics and the great music. That's about it. 5.9/10

Can anyone tell me if this game is any good? I'm a big Pokemon fan, but B2/W2 disappointed me, and after playing the demo, I wasn't sure I wanted this game. It looks like a step down from Explorers of the Sky, which is my favorite one in the Mystery Dungeon franchise.

If you don't mind the smaller pokemon roster, I think you'll like it.

The presentation is far better than the DS games and Paradise is a welcome addition.

I haven't beat it yet, but from where I am, it is much worse than Explorers of Sky. Less Pokemon, less bosses, shorter, and very slow text. While there are some nice features in it, they don't save it.

If you liked the previous Mystery Dungeon games, you should at least think this is decent, but you should wait until it is cheaper.

I haven't even beaten Explorers of Darkness. I just didn't feel motivated enough to finish it. Is Explorers of Sky really that much better?

IMO Gates to Infinity is probably the best one so far.

The story is surprisingly good, at least for a Pokemon game (albeit, this was when I was a kid), and the gameplay is really fun. Sky is a worthy investment. The roster was slightly expanded, and Darkness and Time had both their version exclusives in one package. The graphics aren't entirely good looking, about on par with a GBA, but the charm they give off is splendid nonetheless. The dialogue goes faster, and it isn't as bad as Gates' is either. I would definetely give it a try, although it may take a while to settle in. The sidequest-episode-thingies are a nice diversion from the main storyline, and add perspective to the campaign.

Yeah, but I don't see how Sky is worth trying to find if it's just Darkness+.

I've already played through most of Darkness and I just don't feel like finishing it at all.

Gates of Infinity was more enjoyable to play through for me.

Very true, Sky is mostly a Darkness+, the Pokemon Yellow of its series.
