Am I the only one that would play MK7 more if it had a no-item mode?

Cause I'm damn good at driving, but always get f**ked over by items. Anyone else?

I've always been really good at driving in Mario Kart, but I feel like the game would get boring fast if there were no items. I enjoy the items and that's what makes it a fun party game. However, it's only a no-item mode that we're talking about, so I don't see why it couldn't be added. I would try it out a few times.

Items make the game more fun, but no items races would also be fun and stuff like that.

Dudes? You can play with no Item, and believe me it is boring... Once someone fall or make a wrong move the already lost the whole race! And items are also competitive becuae If you were that good you should know how to avoid them

Avoiding and managing items is just part of the gameplay. Sure there is luck, but there is skill too.

I think the Sonic kart games have less emphasis or powered items... but I've never really played, so maybe someone else can suggest something else.

Ahh..
Lightning and blue shell, the worst combination ever.

8/10 every race I do in mirror, one of the following happens RIGHT before the race ends (like 5 more seconds, I win):

1. I get lightning'ed, causing me to lose my mushroom I've been saving for that devilish blue shell. Then one of two things happen: 2nd place throws a red shell at me, or someone finds that damn blue shell
2. I get red shelled, and as soon as I recover, I get shelled again or lightning'ed

In either scenario, I was always 5 seconds from winning, but then I ended up in like 6th place with 3 coins.

How does skill counter this?

if you are good in driving, then driving simulator games would be fit for you like gran turismo...

oh well, just saying that mario kart is better played with fun... i mean fun as funny power-ups like bananas, poking your enemies with shells, or burning them in a cartoonish way XD...

Mario Kart without the items would be like Monster Hunter without the monsters..

The items are what made MK stand out from the crowd on older consoles, and even now there are countless spin-offs, and all include items for one simple reason: the formula works. Sure it gets annoying, but isn't that what drives you to go back and do it again? As TripStack said, without the items it isn't a party game.

I do agree though, a no-item mode would be interesting, sure. It would be down to "skill" (or snaking), but that is what simulators are for. I'd try the mode, but i think I'd stick with the traditional GP's.

IDK If anyone agrees with me but having items also adds a layer of strategy to the racing

I think a no-item mode would be cool to implement but as others are saying it would eventually get boring after awhile. I also agree items add a level of strategy but at the same time is a bit of luck as well.

It would be fun if it was every-so often or had special modes at random where there is only one type of item.
