I'm not surprised they went with this route for the Wii U 3D Mario since Super Mario 3D Land is the fastest-selling 3D Mario ever.

The only good thing I can think about this is the fact that I can't think of any multiplayer 3D platformers at all. Too bad it won't have online. :/

No online, no buy for me until its price drops big. I won't ever have people to play with, and I don't feel.like getting basically a slightly upgraded 3d land for $60.

I find it funny how the title almost looks like "W?rld". ? in Swedish is pronounced almost precisely like the o in "World" so it just looks like a sarcastic spelling to me. XD W?????RRLLDD

Not yet it's not, don't get ahead of yourself. Galaxy 64, and 64 DS have all sold better

this game will not sell as well either, there is already mario out for the system. 3D land was the first 3d mario for a handheld, and there were no other games on the 3DS at that time. That's why it sold. Not because it was particularly good

Still not close to 64, and it hasn't outsold galaxy yet. Also, galaxy was never bundled. 3D land was bundled heavily.

Opinions everywhere again I guess. Plenty of people trying to also convince other people that sunshine sux. There really is no point in arguing about it, but I already know that is just flatout disappointment to me, especially with no onlkne.

Media Create, the main source of sales in Japan, does not include bundles in their sales figures.

And you can have your opinion as long as you stop trying to pretend that everyone else hates SM3DLand as much as you do.

I never said anything about that in this thread, you obviously love it, and that's fine. You're doing the exact same thing with Sunshine.

All I am saying is that it's not the best selling game necessarily because it's really good, but rather the timing of it.

Also, I'm disappointed with the new direction.

I was hesitant at its first reveal, just because I guess I was expecting something along the lines of Galaxy; but now that I've let it soak in, I remembered Super Mario Land was one of my favorite 3DS titles so there should really be no reason why I don't get this. If they offer online multiplayer, it can have just as much depth and replayability, if not more, as the Galaxy franchise. I'll have to see more. Still no "wow"-factor.

I am really excited for the new Mario game. I really enjoy playing them.

Things I liked:
+ Visually the game looked nice. I love all the different bright colors.
+New song for all the people that hate song in the 2d series. I like the new song, it just sounds happy. I feel like it is telling me I am going to have a good time.
+This is going to be fun playing with family, due to the multiplayer aspect. Now my friend will finally be able to play as peach.
+Charging Chuck is back. It is always nice to see old character.
+It looks like the gameplay will be similar to Super Mario 3d Land which, I personally like.
+The new suit looks like it is going to be fun to play with.

Things I did not like:
-The icon that shows which character are playing seems out place. I get what they are trying to do with the old style art, but I would prefer that they put the icon in 3d
-I am not really a cat person so I am a little bummed that the new suit is a cat. I would have preferred a tiger or a wolf.

I am just being nit picky about the negatives, but this game looks great. I love all the games from Nintendo though.

Maybe you should check out Sonic: Lost World then?

It's a 3rd party game so it needs more support and from what I've seen it definitely takes some inspiration from Galaxy.

I have seen it, and it looks cool. I never said I wanted galaxy though, I just said I wanted something new.

I have watched a bunch of gameplay for 3DW, and it definitely looks better than 3DL, but it doesn't look to be the quality of galaxy. I mean, multiplayer is fun, but I don't have a lot of local friends who like to play mario. The game uses 2D way too much as well. I do want full on 3D platforming, not really another 2D mario.

I think it will be good, but it's not going to be one of the better Mario games.

Was expecting a grand-scale epic Mario game ala Super Mario Galaxy and was a bit disappointed when this was announced, but I've come to like it. It looks fun, which is all that matters I suppose. I like how you can control the camera instead of it being fixed too.

I was hoping for a new 3D Mario in an open world instead of these linear 3D levels, but Super Mario 3D World looks amazing and like it's going to be a lot of fun so far. I'm really liking the new cat suit, it looks so cute and awesome. I wonder if there will be anymore new suits/power ups and which ones will return.

Has anyone else wondered why Toad is a blue Toad instead of the regular red Toad? And why Mario's cat suit is yellow instead of red? Luigi, Peach and the blue Toad have cat suits in their signature colours, so why is Mario's yellow? lol.

Miyamoto said they can't talk about any other power-ups yet, but he did say Tanooki Mario is back. So we know Cat and Tanooki Mario. I predict 2-3 more new suits, and then some old ones.

Also, the main theme for this game is really good, much better than SM3DL.

Yea, that is one clear, unarguable thing. There really is no excuse to have had orchestrated muaic like that for a 2007 wii game, and now basic music like this on a 2013 wii u game.

I would've preferred something like Super Mario 64 with split screen co-op. Maybe even with the ability for each player to go to a different world on their own. Like have some kind of bonus for working together in the same world but have it so you can complete the game faster by working separately to get multiple worlds done at the same time. Oh. And online. I really wish something like this had online. I don't ever have friends over because I prefer going out to different places with my friends.

Even though I was expecting something a little more epic like Super Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy, I'm still very excited for this game. I'm gonna get a Wii U soon before they start selling out in the Holiday season like the Nintendo DS and the Wii did.

Back in E3, when I saw that this was going to be Mario's big Wii U HD debut, I was close to a tantrum level of disappointed. The animation is charming and the cut scenes seem entertaining, speaking of which; Bowser looks pimpin' in that muscle car! He looks pimpin' everywhere here. Dude just don't care. And man, DAT THEME MUSIC! It's so genuinely vintage, authentic, swingin', jivein' etc.

Visuals and sound aside, the gameplay here just screams Fun. It seems close to a Galaxy level of 'Something different every level'. New game mechanics and ideas all over the place. I like the level twists (like that shadow thing with toad) and the new powerups/pick-up-able items. Especially the cloning cherry, that should make for some cool stuff. Overworld is sweet as well. And it's good that we're actually getting different bosses this time, along with a heap of new enemies.

Do I still want a Galaxy scale game in terms of ambition and dedicated-gamer appeal? Yeah, it would be nice, but this is starting to look like a game I could sink my teeth into, and if not, at the very least I'll have a gleeful blast playing through it. I've gone from being indifferent to the game to super excited all in one trailer. Great job Nintendo!

I have to say, I'm really impressed for 3D World. I liked 3D land the most out of all the Mario games I've played, but it just seemed like it was a bit bland sometimes. This game appears to fix all of that, however, and is definitely shaping up to be a solid title.

the more I see of this game, the more stoked I get. It's that same magical feeling I got when Super Mario Galaxy was releasing around Christmastime. To this day I feel Mario Galaxy is only properly played on dark, snowy evenings by a fire. I know that this one will stir up the same feelings <3

Not really. The first trailer didn't make it look good at all. At e3 it looked like sm3dland hd. The trailers and videos since then showed what it really appears to be.

It's become one of my first Wii U titles to pick up whenever I get a Wii U a few years down the road.

And I originally didn't care for the game at all.
Before this was announced, with the exception of Mario and Luigi Dream Team, I haven't been interested in Mario titles for quite a while.

This game is just overflowing with Nintendo charm. It really rings the same feelings in me as Galaxy games and mario 64 sometimes. I especially appreciate the remix of the character select screen from Super Mario Bros. 2, since I grew up with Mario Advance

Aside from the fact that most of us LOVE Nintendo franchises, and the fact that Nintendo coming out with another Retro-made Metroid title and the expected Zelda title, I don't think anything at this point is going to make the masses want to buy a Wii U. Nintendo will of course appease most of their fans that either already have one, or will most likely pick one up, but OTHER gamers? I doubt it.

At least Nintendo aren't quitters though, they will keep trying and trying, and I think us fans will get a lot of cool stuff out of the deal, instead of quitting and not trying to "fix" the low sales situation.

Well, with the latest purchase of Super Mario 3D World (just arrived 5 minutes ago) I am now at the Platinum tier on Club Nintendo. So any new Nintendo games I buy between now and June are not going to get registered until the next cycle

I usually never hit Platinum, always Gold.

Well there will be the few games like "X" and FExSMT and monster hunter, that kind of stuff that can appeal more to "other gamers". I can tell I will really like the wii u though the whole time whena good bunch of games come out.

I'm in world 8 with just a few levels in it now but going back to 100% everything else. Did anyone else have trouble getting the third greenstar on 1-4 st the end when you go off that huge cliff? The timing for it has to be so precise.

It's not too bad. Just make sure you hit all of the booster pads and you should get it.

I ended up getting it, but hitting all boosters nevet worked, that put me.way too far every time. I had to slow down slightly.

I'm up to world 5 now for 100%ing, no real trouble anywhere else yet, although the first boohouse in w3 had some tricky greenstars. That painting one took me forever, but I loved the sm64 easteregg.

Just unlocked world crown and beat the last captain toad level. I tried the bonus level and only got to the 4th star before I quit, and then tried the last level a few times. I'm going to go back now and finish every level with every character....I'm glad they actually tell you what levels have been beaten with which characters.

I think the sales picked up somewhat but it is still disappointing to see such a good game being overshadowed because of Nintendo's bad management (which hasn't stopped). I believe the only thing that can save the WiiU now is Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. Toghether with Nintendo's X and the new IP Miyamoto is working on, the WiiU may still have a chance to sell more than 25 million units. Still the last 2 titles I mentioned have to be really good. I mean, REALLY good!

Made it to crown world too.

Finished the Captain Toad level and made it almost halfway through the last mystery house.

I doubt I'll be able to beat the last level.

I just finished World 5. Loving this game so far, it's way better than 3D land.

I 100% every level before I proceed to the next level. Almost all of the green stars and stamps are easy enough to find and grab the first time. If I miss any or don't get the gold flag, I just repeat the level until it's 100% before I move on to the next.

Do you guys main a certain character? Or do you use them all?

I use them all now and then, but I've mostly been using Luigi. Dunno why 'cause Luigi is never my first pick in any Mario game with character choices. I guess it's the whole Year of Luigi thing that makes me feel like using him more than the others.

Rented this game for 5 nights with my girlfriend so we can play it on our roommate's Wiiu. Such a great game! This is the third night and we've beaten all 8 worlds. Can't wait to play as Rosalina tomorrow! Then we move on to 100%ing every level!

Yea, you have to beat every level with every character to get each character stamp. When you unlock either rosalina or the crown world(forgot which), every level shows which levels have beaten by which characters.

Anyone else think beating the game with every single character (5 times), is a bit overkill? It was bearable in 3D Land, but this is pretty crazy. It's not difficult, and the game is still fun. But 5 times is pretty crazy. Even worse when you realize you have to do Crown-Crown and Crown Mystery Box 4 more times.

It's all the levels. Regular levels, fight levels (AKA the roadblock enemies on the map like the Chargin' Chucks), and mystery boxes. Captain Toad levels count too, but obviously they only need to be played once.

It's every regular level, all of the fight levels with like gammer bros and stuff, and mystery box houses. Captain toad doesn't count torwards it because that is seperate obviously. You will see all of the ones you have to do.

I just for the first time fonally beat champion's road with peach and two tanooki suits going in. You basically almost for sure need to be powered up going in to the speed boost parts unless you can get all 5 question mark tokens without getting lasered. I still havent beat the mystery.box house yet.

Phew, finally managed to beat crown-crown. Refused to go gain extra lives or power-ups, so kept doing it with 5 lives and no power-ups until I beat it. Took roughly 2-3 hours in total. The last mystery box also took about 1 hour. I'm happy with the challenge of those levels.

We'll see if I ever bother to finish it with every character... most likely not

I can definitely see why this was up for game of the year...So much fun and great graphics/mechanics.

Also I know a lot of people hated on the cat suits when they were first announced, but they did a really great job with integrating them, I loved em.

Played it on my roommates wiiu when we rented it, and may buy it when we get our own wiiu.
