Exclamation Do you use the 3D on the 3DS?

Hello

I'd like to know your use of the 3D on the 3DS. I've always been curious about it.

I'm one of the ones who typically keeps 3D off, it hurts my eyes. Plus the games look better without 3D

Same here. My screen has marks on it (bottom screen pushing on top) that makes 3d a bit weird. Most of the games I play don't need it.

I used it about 90% of the time on the OG 3DS, but the XL's 3D is a nightmare, I almost never use it, usually only to check out what it would look like if it worked. I exchanged it after about a week for another one because some people on here thought there might have been a problem with the unit, but same thing, or only slightly better. I've seen many people concur on Neogaf, so I guess the screens are just different and fit some eyes better and others worse.

It's a shame because I'm a big proponent of the 3D, when it actually works.

Sometimes.
I don't like it too much, but on some games I do.

I use the 3D feature on my XL. At first, it did hurt my eye, but I got use to it. Just love how it stands out.

I normally use the 3D. At least to me, it makes the screen and the colors seem brighter. I really like the feeling of depth as well, so much so that playing 3DS games in 2D almost seems boring.

It does depend on the game though. I'll use it at max all the time on most games, though some games I have to lower that to about mid level. For a couple I actually don't use it, Tales of the Abyss being an example (the effect really isn't that good/noticeable, so it really isn't worth using).

I use 100% 3D, 100% of the time. Did so on my OG 3DS from day one and still do on my XL. I can't turn it off, when I do it feels like I walk around with one eye closed (try that IRL and you'll know the feeling) it just feels awful. I need dat depth. The screen just feels much bigger and more immersive with 3D on, in 2D it just hits me how lame the graphics are. 3D does a lot to me.

I use 3D always unless there's sunlight bothering or I want to save battery because I outside but in other situation it is always on! I feel like 3D in MH3U just looks perfect, I noticed this about 2 days ago, I took my 3ds like 30-35 cm away from me and it looks like there was another dimension on the upper screen... Normally when I use 3D I feel it so natural I don't even notice It because am focus on a single thing on screen but once you take the whole picture, I really works!

Honstly , i always keep it off. Games like Kid Icarus is a pain with 3D turned on , the controls are already crap :P I dont really know why they didn't enable CPP for aiming , i hope they do in a future update

I used to use it all the time, but my eyes feel better with the 3D off, so I don't use it as much anymore. And like what Sonic said, Kid Icarus has amazing 3D until the controls get in the way, then it just doesn't work.

I use the 3D effect all the time at various levels, depending on the game I play. I turn it off only when my daughter looks at what I'm playing

I only turn it off if I'm in a vehicle or if someone is watching me play, but other than that, it is always on full blast!

I'm pretty old fashioned, as I still have what ye call an "OG 3DS" that I've had a few months after launch. Since then, I rarely use 3D. It doesn't pop out to me, it makes marks and muck more visible, hurts my eyes, and when you use it playing Mario Kart 7's Rainbow Road, looks like you'd be trippin'!

I like to use it for some cutscenes, but that's about it.

It bothers me because if I tilt the 3DS even slightly it gets out of focus so I usually play with it off.

I usually have 3D on full blast, I only have it off if I am tired and/or struggling to keep in the sweet spot.

This can be a problem for me as I have a lazy eye and find it causes 3D to be much weaker to me than it should be. In fact, according to the nVidia 3D Vision test it says I can't see 3D, but I most certainly can. It sucks at the cinema though as the effect isn't usually strong enough for me to notice at all, at home I can crank up the setting to offset my eyes.

It definitely makes a huge difference to the games on 3DS though. Anything where you need to judge depth is much harder with 3D off. In fact, I found I couldn't play Mii Force without it as I kept losing track of where things were on screen, flying into bullets, etc.

Even where its not quite as important, it offsets the horribly low resolution of the 3DS screen and really makes the colours pop. Everything looks really pixelated, flat and washed out with 3D off.

I just wish the 3DS had 800x480 (400x480 per eye) like my old Optimus 3D did, as that was the perfect pixel pitch for the size. Its all the more apparent now with smart phones going retina display, it makes the 3DS look even worse. Although even the Vita screen looks crap next to my Galaxy Note 2.

It's up 100%, 100% of the time. Sometimes I put it down to see what the game looks like in 2D, lol. 3D just makes everything on the 3DS look more appealing to me. It looks shinier, prettier and more engaging. It looks more grainy in 2D to me.

Often but it depends on my desire. I frequently get eye strain so I'm pretty selective about when I use 3D.

I haven't yet at all. I don't want to use it unless a game requires it.

I use it occasionally. I mostly use it during cutscenes or if I just really feel like playing with it on. I think the most I used it was when I played Super Mario 3d Land and LoZ: OoT, which is among the best 3d that I've experienced.
It doesn't really hurt my eyes too bad, save a few games. But I find it sort of annoying to use during gameplay. Another thing is that it can make certain games run less smooth with it on. I mostly notice this during combat sequences in Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Occasionally, since I don't like it that much. I usually turn it on too see the 3D effect on a game I just purchased. My problem is that I have to focus on seeing the 3D effect and that annoys me. You know when your focus is on keeping the 3D effect, there's a problem. I prefer putting focus on playing the game.

I just got my 3DS XL yesterday and began using it today. At first, I thought the 3D feature was gorgeous. When I began playing Animal Crossing I quickly started having problems. It was really irritating my eyes, and I couldn't get the right angle even by doing what they tell you to in the illustration at the beginning. I was really excited about the 3D feature, but I had done my research and heard many complaints about it before making my purchase. The 3DS is still awesome, but I really wish I could utilize its full features by being able to use the 3D slider. I may try it again later, but so far it looks like I sadly won't be using this feature.

Of course I do. Always to the max. That's one thing that made me get the system to begin with.

The only exceptions so far are the menus and Brain Age Concentration Training. That's why I voted the second option.

It still bothers when you barely have the 3D on? It takes a while to get used to it.

Ocarina of Time 3D has such amazing 3D. I wish more titles would use it as heavily as this game does.

Yeah, it's crazy how many games (Uprising, SM3DL, Mario Kart etc.) have been scared to add the level of depth that OoT3D has. That game really feels like a window to another world. If people find it overwhelming or difficult to focus on, they can just turn the slider down :I

Gaming? Not at all.

Only use it occasionally when viewing 3D images or videos.

Not very often. Very few games genuinely benefit from it, it kills the battery, it can be a pain staying in the exact position, etc. When it works, such as SM3DL or Revelations, it's awesome.

I always use it on every game turned all the way up, its one of the main features of the system. It did irritate my eyes the first week I played it though. My eyes have just gotten used to it and hasnt bugged me ever since.

I use it occasionally. I'll turn it on once in awhile to see how it looks at different times but mostly play without it. It gives me headaches for prolonged use and my eyes go seizure like.

I usually keep it off. I move a lot when I play so the 3D glitches a lot. But sometimes when I'm in a neutral position for a long time, I put it on, because I think it looks fantastic! Especially Monster Hunter! The graphics are just beautiful!

I agree. I love the 3d effect in MH3U and many other games. I don't play with it on in games that it doesn't enhance the feel. In monster hunter it lets me get a better grip of my surroundings and helps me process where the monster is. However in NSMB2 the 3d effect was completely unnecessary and could have been eradicated entirely.

Up for more data collection.

Actually, with 108 people (quite statistically viable), we have 67 people (62%) who use the 3D always to often, and 41 (38%) who use it barely to never.

I used it a lot when ai first got my 3Ds and Kid Icarus. But i get distracted by the 3D images sometimes that I get hit a lot by the enemy.
And when X and Y came out, I only use it on some cutscenes.

I always use the 3D on the 3DS, expept for some games.
If there is motion sensor involved I turn it of.
I don't use it with Animal Crossing anymore.
