Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is much better than NSMB2 in my opinion. It may be that I am not the biggest fan of platformers, but it seemed that NSMB2 didn't catch the "Mario Spirit". DLC was a nice addition though. LMM on the other hand, was a strong return to a franchise that had been dormant for 12 years, and fixed nearly all of the flaws the original had while providing new ways to shake up the gameplay and innovate. Most people come to the general consensus that while most of the bosses have been praised for using "puzzles", the bosses weren't as good as they were hyped up to be. (the first one aside)

The popular opinion would be Luigis Mansion, I own both games and I must said despite NSMB2 was way shorter I really enjoyed that short time, while with LM I felt it was too easy and sometimes couldn't find the reason why I was playing, Luigis Mansion has a better 3D by much and its graphics are much better, but I also like NSMB2 graphics since I think they're about as good as they could, Luigi's Mansion also has an online multiplayer (full of bugs) and it can get quit funny but something more casual than hardcore, while if you have someone to streetpass with, you'll take NSMB2 coin rush mode as a hardcore game mode, In the end I enjoyed more playing NSMB2 in my memory playing LM was a pain for my left thumb and felt more like a punish..

Dark Moon by FAR. New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a fantastic game, but Dark Moon is more. Dark Moon feels like the 3DS game we've been waiting for (plus Fire Emblem).

It has more replay value, it has all three forms of multiplayer that the 3DS can provide, and it has a lot more charm.

They can't be compared in my eyes, since they are way too different to even find a valid comparison besides both being part of the Mario franchise. I enjoyed them both for very different reasons, so I can't really say which one is "better".

I would say I enjoyed Dark Moon a lot more, but that's just my childhood speaking, the little kid that waited 12 years for another Luigi's Mansion. So yeah, too blinded by that factor to even compare, too.

I would definitely go with Luigi's Mansion. NSMB2 is a very fun game while you play it but once you stop you realize how bland it really is. However LMDM is extremely fun while you play it and you never feel as if its bland because there is so much there to explorer. It has more collectibles also so you can replay it countless time.

LMDM also presented me with more of a challenge than NSMB2 did. In LMDM you would have to figure out how to get past this one part and just keep trying different things and finding stuff along the way. However in NSMB2 you would just have to try, die, try, die over and over and over and over until FINALLY you made it through. They are both fun but LMDM is better.

I got NSMB2 for free along with Mario-Kart 7 with my 3ds XL. I know that I was just after some simple, classic Mario, Dark-Moon gets brilliant reviews but I have heard you have to revisit areas a few times and progression doesn't always feel so obvious.

Just what I have heard, haven't played either games yet

Dark Moon is superior, not only is the game longer and more enjoyable, if you're into multiplayer there's Scarescraper and you can play local and online.

NSMB2, while good is the same as NSMB, Wii, or U. If you're into 2D Mario games, I'd suggest getting NSMBU or NSLU.

How many hours to beat Luigi's Mansion? I was thinking about picking it up but was afraid the game length was a bit on the short side.
