Default Marvel Cinematic Universe

AKA, the series of movies made by Marvel Studios, now owned by the Walt Disney Company. Basically, it refers to these films:

Phase 1:

Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Thor
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers

Phase 2:

Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World (November 8, 2013)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1, 2014)
The Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1, 2015)

Phase 3:

Ant-Man (November 6, 2015)

There are also various tie-ins, including comic books (seperate from the actual comic book continuity), one-off short films such as:

The Consultant
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer
Item 47

And, of course, there's the upcoming TV series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., set to premiere in the Fall of 2013. All of which encompasses one big connected universe.

I love these movies, though one has to wonder, with contracts reaching their end, how long will this go on... It managed to strike up a huge initial success, though one has to wonder what phase 2 will be like... or what will happen after that...

ANYWAY, feel free to talk about what you thinks of the movies in the series, and what you hope from upcoming movies and tie-ins! Personally, I think the second Thor's looking pretty damn cool, the second Captain America will probably be pretty awesome as well, Guardians of the Galaxy will be... interesting... and I still can't believe they're making an Ant-Man movie...

Oh yeah, BTW, certain Marvel characters are owned by different movie-making studios under different movie-making copyrights. Watch this video to fully understand:

Incidentally, Scarlet Witch and Quicksliver WILL be in the second Avengers movie, recently revealed to have Ultron (a rogue robot created by Ant-Man) as the main villain.

Well, the X-Men movies aren't considered a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And they already have an actor confirmed for Quicksilver in Days of Future Past and they're apparently going to have a different actor in The Avengers. So, I'm pretty sure that the one in The Avengers is going to be considered a different character from a different universe than the one in Future Past. So, no, we're not getting an X-Men meets he Avengers movie.

There's a rumor going about that Ant-Man's origin will be in the second Avengers movie, while his actual movie will be about Hank Pym and Scott Lang/Eric O'Grady fighting over the title of Ant-Man.

And I believe it's explained in the video, but Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are considered to be closely associated with the Avengers, so there's a loop-hole allowing them to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joss Whedon loves the idea of typically villainous characters being part of a heroic group, so that's probably why they're being included.

I don't think it'll take THAT long... Although, Marvel does see the actors as replacable, and even views Tony Stark as a sort of "James Bond", a character played by multiple actors over time. While I could certainly see that if Robert Downey Jr. is too old, has some crappy personal problems, or dies, it would SUCK if they replace him for some other reason. Of course, Joss Whedon STILL wants him, so hopefully HIS word would have more sway to it.

So apparently, Elizabth Olsen, the younger sister of the Olsen twins has been cast as Scarlet Witch:

Samuel L. Jackson confirms Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron | Flickering Myth

...And there's also rumor that Aaron Taylor Johnson is Quicksilver, though I'm not sure about that.

Okay, bumping this topic with a bunch of news... First off, a new, presumably secondary villain has been confirmed for Avengers: Age of Ultron, namely Thomas Kretschmann as Captain America/Nick Fury villain, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker:

Also, Marvel is considering getting Johnny Depp to play Doctor Strange:

Lastly, this last thing isn't news, but this guy talks about the prospect of Johnny Depp being Doctor Strange, as well as Robert Downey Jr. being contractually obligated to be in 2 more movies (presumably Avengers: Age of Ultron and the inevitable Avengers 3):

Actually, Paul Rudd is just going to be Dr. Hank Pym, the guy who originally made the Ant-Man suit. Michael Douglas as Scott Lang is going to be Ant-Man!

I just read this:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...if_t=notify_me

Spoiler!

It basically says that Rob Liefeld, infamous comic illustrator and "writer", is trying to force Fox into a corner with X-Men and the Fantastic Four, refusing to make comic book or merchandise tie-ins for the movies they'll make. Sony, on the other hand, seems desperate, given how The Amazing Spider-Man 2 under-performed and Sony's in quite a bit of financial trouble as it is, and might be in talks with Marvel to have Spider-Man show up in the third Avengers movie.

IMO, I liked X-Men: Days of Future Past so for the moment I'm okay if the rights don't revert back to Marvel, though the new Fantastic Four movie looks like it's going to suck big-time. And Spider-Man... yeesh...

Also, not news but...

Darkhawk? Speedball? ...How would you like to see THEM in the next Avengers movie? Or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Or in that upcoming Defenders mini-series? Or... at all?

I honestly don't care if the rights for X-Men, Fantastic Four, or Spider-Man go back to Marvel.

Obviously the major concern here from those franchises not being with Marvel is that we can't have any of those characters associating in any way with The Avengers. Not that I really care for most of them being Avengers - the only characters from those franchises that really matter are Wolverine and Dr. Doom imo

Actually, Dr. Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic is a pretty major character when it comes to the Avengers. If something scientific wasn't made by Tony Stark/Iron Man, odds are it was made by him.

Though you are right, in that aside from Wolverine, who's pretty much everywhere INCLUDING the Avengers, all the franchises can pretty much stand on their own. Spider-Man in particular is a loner for the most part, and there's very little reason for him to join up with the Avengers.

I think you're giving Richards too much credit - He's probably the smartest dude in the Marvel universe, and it still doesn't matter. Tony Stark, Hank Pym, and Bruce Banner are good enough to fill in the scientific genius roles. Tony Stark alone, is good enough in my opinion.

So I'll stick with my sentiment that the Fantastic Four don't contribute much besides characters like Doom and a few cosmic entities (Galactus, Silver Surfer, and Skrulls in particular). X-Men have always been written to be self-contained aside from Wolverine and the whole notion of mutants (ignoring crossovers of course).

I watched Thor: The Dark World while on the plane ride.

It was ok. I'm just not as impressed with the Thor movies as the other Marvel films (Loki and Thor are fun characters tho)

The Thor movies are probably the weakest link for me.

The Avengers, The Winter Soldier, and Iron Man are generally consider the best so far.

Ant-Man officially has a new director (plus someone to help with the screenplay):

http://marvel.com/news/movies/2014/6...arvels_ant-man

...Plus, an official plot synopsis!

Quote:
"Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world."
Sounds pretty cool! As for the new director, I took a look at his previous works and...

...

...Well, at least they have a new director now.
