Default Getting A 3DS, but am I too old?

I was thinking about getting a Nintendo 3DS because I have been playing some old GBA and GBC that i've legally purchased and totally did not steal and I thought that I might want to get a 3DS for all of the new games of Zelda and Mario and Pokemon, but I asked my mom and all she said was "Are you being serious?" So I became kind of discouraged and changed the subject, but I really want to know if I am a little old for a DS (BTW I'm 14 and male) I found a refurbished 3DS on Nintendo's website for 120 U.S dollars, which seems like a good deal and I really am wanting to get it even though I spent nearly $1000 on parts for my new gaming PC. Plz help

If you were too old to buy a 3DS, you'd be too old to play video games in general.

Also don't talk about rom's here, that's not allowed.

I'm 38 ..... the answer is no, no one is too old.

Actually, this does bring me to the fact that Nintendo is actually accommodating all ages, by also including a lot of classics being ported for the 3DS.

Too old? And your 14? Dude, I'm sorry, but you are not too old for much of anything.

As for the 3DS, no. Just no. No one is too old for it. I'm 30, and I play my 3DS during breaks at work, on the train to-and-from work, and I play when my wife goes to bed. I play it with my toddler son, and I play co-op on Revelations with my 55-year-old dad online. There is no age limit to what the 3DS can do.

Whether you're 14 or 114, you're not too old.
Don't listen to your mom.
She probably doesn't understand gaming anyway, so who cares what she says.

I'm not sure when you spent that grand (and I'd assume your parents paid for it since you can't be on a payroll) but that's a lot of money to spend in (again, I'm assuming) a relatively short amount of time. Your mom might just think you're spending too much instead of you being too old for a 3DS. Or both.

But no, you're not too old for one.

Nintendo has games that cater to everyone, literally. If you spend a little time on the forums here you'll see there are members of all ages all gaming on their 3DS. If there are games that interest you get one.

As for your mother I got the same reaction when I came home with my 3DS and she laughed when I got Nintendogs + Cats another time. I just told her I play what I want and got over with it.

There are many games on the 3DS to accommodate your tastes. Platformers? Check. Shooters? Kid Icarus. Survival-Horror? Resident Evil Revelations. Adventure? Zelda, Monster Hunter, etc. RPGs? Boy, you're in for a real treat. Classic Game Boy and NES titles? A bunch. There are a ton of games on the 3DS, and it should appeal to almost everyone. I recommend getting it, regardless of age.

Haha, to old for an 3ds? I'm sorry but that made me chuckle a bit.

I'm from Holland and here gaming, and especially portable gaming, has it's childish reputation.

Of course, Pok?mon is a dofferent matter. Marketed beavely at children it is often forgotten that it al started with a game, a very good game. And even though the game can perfectly be played by children it also offers a big enough challenge for adult.

If you are interested to know, I'm nearing 29 now and play my 3DS on the train regularly. Most other people I see playing the 3DS in the wild are about my age.
Mario Kart is an especially loved title.

The OP's post seems a little... different than it was. Anyway, there's no such thing as being too old to enjoy anything. Just don't pay attention to other people's opinions that say otherwise.

When I clicked this thread, I expected someone a LOT older than 14 to be asking this question. XD

Anyways, your mum is ignorant, ignore her and just go and buy the damn thing. Nobody is ever too old for video games, especially when it comes to Nintendo who cater for all ages and many interest.

25, and I own a 3DS XL. I don't get down with all that Mario, Luigi, Kirby, Donkey kong stuff though. You're probably Nintendo's target demographic of customer.

I'm older than anyone who's already posted and I've been posting Animal Crossing pictures (L + R and snap!) to Facebook like crazy. They're funny or at least humorous and they've gotten more "likes" from my "friends" (who are not too far off my age) than any other postings I've ever made.

I skipped several generations of game machines (like from the early-80s to the release of the 3DS -- yes, I'm "Atari Age") so I've had a lot of catching up to do but, considering how amazing the games from Nintendo have been in the 3DS era, I can't wait for Pokemon. There's always a lot of challenge along with the "cutesy" in any of the games I've played so I'm sure it will live up to the hype at least to a point. Luigi's Mansion is a must, BTW.

What you should've done:

Mom: Your too old for 3DS.
You: Go *** yourself. You know nothing and your dead to me. *** the *** off.

Your mom is wrong. 3DS is for everyone.

Suspiciously specific denial to an accusation nobody made?

The whole "I asked my mom" part totally invalidates your question. If parental permission is involved, worries of being too old for something are null and void. You're just a kid, man.

On the the other hand, the parental gateway is a problematic one since you're under your parent's dictum of what is and isn't age appropriate, and some parents have odd ideas about that. Some people think their kids are supposed to outgrow things that are cool and fun at some arbitrary age, and if they don't want to they should be forced to. Well nuts to that. Comic books are for kids? Yes they are, but go to a comic book convention and the majority of people are over 20. Toys are for kids? Yes they are, but go to a Transformers or Lego convention and the majority of people are over 20. And so on. Other adults that have outgrown toys may think that 30 and 40 year old men collecting Transformers may be odd, but they probably have some other hobby like tinkering with old cars or going to football games with a big foam finger and a team colors afro wig. But the point is no matter how old you are and whatever your hobby is, this is the internet and there will be plenty of other people of all ages that share that hobby.

Even if you have to wait until you're no longer living with your parents to really pursue that hobby.

I'm 16 years old, kid. If you think a 14 year old is too old for a 3ds, then that's your mom. Many people on here are older than 20 and I have them on my 3ds friend list. Never too old for gaming.
