Default Project GBA Desu~! (ღ˘⌣˘ღ) ♫・*:.。. .。.:*・

Baroque approved so I'm just gonna shout it: FLASHCARTS! GAME BOY ADVANCE FLASHCARTS! DS FLASHCARTS! SIX FLASHCARTS! FLAAAAAAAAAAAASHCARTS!

"Favoritism?! Why does Dan get to speak of flashcarts but I do not?!"

Please understand.

Basically, I want to play some Japanese-exclusive games without learning moonrunes. Thankfully there are weebs out there who have learned Japanese who translate this ****! For free! All I have to do is rip my own ROMs from the games, patch 'em, and play. Problem is, I have an even lesser chance of finishing games than normal if I play them on an emu. They just always make the most ridiculous noises and are uncomfortable to sit on.

So thus, Project GBA Desu~! (ღ˘⌣˘ღ) ♫・*:.。. .。.:*・.

What I require:
✔ Acquire GBA flashcarts
✔ Acquire DS flashcart
✔ Acquire or borrow a DS Lite
❑ Acquire Japanese games
✔ Mother 3
✔ Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart
❑ Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting
❑ Rhythm Tengoku
❑ Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
❑ Acquire 5 donor cartridges
❑ Acquire 5 custom cartridge labels
❑ Mother 3
❑ Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart
❑ Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting
❑ Rhythm Tengoku
❑ Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
❑ Acquire 5 (maybe?) custom boxes
✔ Mother 3
❑ Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart
❑ Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting
❑ Rhythm Tengoku
❑ Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
❑ Acquire 5 (maybe?) custom manuals
❑ Mother 3
❑ Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart
❑ Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting
❑ Rhythm Tengoku
❑ Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
✔ Acquire 5 cartridge trays
❑ Play each game at least once (this is going to be the most difficult)
I guess I'll just post whenever new stuff arrives!

( ? ▽ ` )ノ--------------------------------------------------------------------ヽ(?ー`)ノ

Day One.
Spoiler!

( ? ▽ ` )ノ--------------------------------------------------------------------ヽ(?ー`)ノ

つづく・・・

anyways it's kinda sad that gba has such a thin library of worthwhile imports. still, the ones it has are pretty damn good, with mother 3 being the clear highlight.

dunno if you're only listing ones that are kinda text heavy (i personally don't think rhythm tengoku is, but eh), but i'd also suggest the kururin games (which i guess you already have) and f-zero climax. people also seem to like the klonoa rpg and the robot wars for gba as well as mother 1+2 if you count that, if you want some more suggestions. also the art style games i guess. and the stafy games. i dunno.

good luck daniel-san~

Not so thin. With Mother 3, Mother 1+2, kururin, f-zero climax, klonoa rpg, the 4 SRT, and the 3 Starfy, you can add Napoleon (European and Japanese exclusive), the 7 Bit Generations (with my favorite, Orbital), Sengoku Kakumei Gaiden, Metalgun Slinger, Black Matrix Zero, Gogo Beckham adventure on soccer island (European exclusive), Denki Blocks (European Exclusive), Dancing Sword, SRT OG 1&2 (japanese, US, Italy, and Spain exclusive), Demikids dark & light version (US and Japanese exclusive), The 2 Monster Gate, Oriental Blue, The 2 SMT, The 3 Tales of the world, Tomato Adventure, The 2 Zoids Saga and surely dozen of rpgs or other genre that we don't even know the existence.

i should've rephrased that, the number of imports that seem interesting to me are thin. i feel as though once i pick up f-zero climax i'm about satisfied with my gba import collection. it could just be because most of my importing is for consoles like the saturn, ds, snes and playstations that the gba import library seems relatively unimpressive

edit: i lied i also want fe6 and a kururin

I think you misunderstand what I'm trying to do here. Basically I want those 5 games on their own individual GBA cartridges.

I was thinking about getting the Starfy games, Mother 1+2, bit Generations, etc, but I guess I will wait for now. Some of the apparently stellar GBA games don't have translations (Guru Logic Champ in particular), and those GBA flashcarts are expensive! I'll look into those suggestions though. Thanks!

Ok. Well I have supercard sd mini.
A Flashcart for GBA. 2gb of GBA games on the micro.
good enough?

That'd be cool, yes, but I don't want a boot menu; I guess I'd like as much authenticity as possible. Having a custom box and manual for most of them would be nice too. Plus, if I wanted to do what you suggested with an actual GBA flashcart instead of the weird DS Lite expansion packs, I'd have to pay out the ass for a legitimate EZ Flash IV, which if I remember correctly cost around $100+ currently.

I've got to be honest, I'm a bit confused as this thread's existence really contradicts the rules. Now I'm not trying to call the rules into question, I think they're great. I'm just a little perplexed as to why something way more legitimate, like homebrew, is considered "uncool" here where as making pirated copies of games never meant to be translated into English (Because you're making physical copies of the game. Which is awesome btw, despite ambiguous legality) is totally cool to post? Genuine curiosity and request for info here mind you, I hope I don't sound critical.

Now, I'm not saying this thread shouldn't exist either, I think it's really neato what OP is doing and it's especially cool that they can discuss it. There's tons of JP games that I never got to play that I've always sorta wanted myself. However, the phrase: "Discussion of hacking, homebrew, emulation, and piracy are not allowed on these boards." in all bold in the rules, with no further descriptive text seems to make it sound non-circumventable. Perhaps a stipulation of "without express, written, prior approval from Staff" or something?

Once again, not being wanting to sound like a douche, but if the rule isn't actually "All or nothing" (this thread's existence definitively means it's not), perhaps some manner of identifying that would help. I'm just saying, if one were to hypothetically have a friend making a really awesome movie player for 3DS, why not be able to discuss that, with permission and approval to make sure it's legit and not lolwarez? Is there a factor here that I'm not aware of? I just want to learn exactly what's cool here and what isn't, ya' know?

Am I missing part of the big picture here and should shut up? I'm admittedly kind of new here, so I don't know the who's who or complex inter-forum relationships, forum politics, etc. so maybe I'm missing something. Yet at the same time, from the point of view of someone who's new to the place, the rules seem to be utilized in a very non-symmetrical manner. Am I simply taking the rules page far, far too seriously or what?

Since you mentioned translations and all... Could you perhaps also add Summon Night Craft Sword Monogatari: Hajimari no Ishi to your list?... Please! It's an awesome game...

Not to be mean to Baroque, as he was the one who gave me permission to create this thread, but yes, I presume this only exists because of favoritism, which I quipped at in the OP. I'm not sure these count as "pirated" copies though, considering I am ripping my own ROMs.

I'm actually thinking switching Rhythm Tengoku with something else as the translation isn't really needed, so I'll take this and other games aforementioned into consideration. Thanks!

Oh, and an update!:

✔ Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart
✔ Acquire 5 cartridge trays

I have no idea why, but the guy I ordered my custom Mother 3 box from sent me two copies... Got a DS Lite as well, so I can now start ripping the ROMs from the two games I have, patching them with the translation, and putting them on their own cart! Exciting stuff!

More photos of the box:
Spoiler!

✔ Acquire or borrow a DS Lite
✔ Mother 3 [custom box]

That's a sweet box. It looks so official and everything.

I wouldn't know if the fan translation exists, but have you also considered importing the original Ace Attorney for the GBA?
