Default Mighty No. 9 Discussion Thread

I searched "Mighty No. 9" and came up with nothing, and searched "Keiji Inafune" and also didn't see a topic like this. So I'm making one, unless someone posts a link to another one that I somehow missed.

From the mind of Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man, comes a new action-packed, side-scrolling shooter game, complete with transformations, "fresh Mechanics", and even input from the fans (through regular polls). It's currently poised to only only be available on PC via Steam, but if it reaches $2,500,000, they'll release it to the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U! Here's the Kickstarter here:

Mighty No. 9 by comcept USA, LLC — Kickstarter

My thoughts: It looks like Mega Man, without... you know, Mega Man. Well, since Capcom isn't going to give it to us anytime soon, we might as well go with this.

Aren't they asking for way too much money? I mean, 2.5 millions? are they serious? It's just a sidescroller! The new shadow of the eternals game did not need as much and it was a beautiful 3D game!

This game looks great. Sadly, I don't have much spare money to spend, but I hope I will be able to purchase this game. Although, 2015 is a very long wait. Looks like a have a game to look forward to in 2014 and another in 2015. (not counting Smash, MK, Zelda Wii U, X, SMT X FE, etc)

They are asking for 900,000.

the rest of the money is for "stretch goals" aka "Not the main cost of the game, but to add bonuses to make the game better"

Was "Shadow of the Eternals" released to every major system out there including PC, Linux, and Mac? Though I can't pretend to know what kind of costs go into making a game for each individual system.

Either way, looking at how fast it's getting funded, $2,500,000 shouldn't be that much of a problem.

Personally not going to back it, as I feel Kickstarter is a huge scam. But will buy if the game is any good.

I cannot believe how much support this thing is getting! They reached their original goal in no time and Renegade Kid is already offering to help make a 3DS port.

I'll admit that I'm not the biggest fan of the side-scrolling Mega Man titles, but they are fun, and I've been wanting to play a new one. I've been nothing but disappointed with the way Capcom's been treating Mega Man and I'm glad Keiji Inafune has decided to step up and try to do something about it.

I absolutely love the way the characters are looking and Mighty No. 2 (the water guy) is definitely my favorite so far.

Kickstarters are usually huge pointless scams. But this is a pretty legitimate cause.

How is Kickstarter a scam? You fund a project, you get rewarded for being a backer, and if it doesn't reach its goal, you get your money back. It allows independent developers who don't get huge budgets from big companies to realize their projects, and chances are they're a lot more ambitious and creative than most of the major companies.

I don't know what Kickstarter you guys decided to fund, but I think they do great things for the gaming community.

This video covers a lot of good points but it's about the site IndieGoGo not Kickstarter. But it's pretty much the same kind of stuff.

So... Crowd-funding is bad because we should give our money to charity instead?

That doesn't make it a scam. People willingly give their own money to see these projects realized, the same way I give money to a cashier when I want to buy a candy bar. Just because it isn't going to a more humane purpose doesn't mean it's wrong.

I don't usually mess with kickstarters but this looks like a legit cause to get behind if you remotely like Megaman.

Congrats on reaching the goal!

Sites like kickstarter, indiegogo, etc. are a method of investing and they're easily accessible to the average person.

There are scams but that has been true of any kind of investment since the day they were invented.

Oh. I know. Scam's probably not the best word. But there are some people who are popular that use their popularity to take advantage of sites like this without really giving detailed information about what the money will really go to. I'm not saying that every thing on these sites are a scam. Just that some people who are well enough off to easily fund a project on their own take advantage of the site so that they don't have to take the money out of their own pocket.

Okay, fair enough. Yeah, I usually won't fund a project that doesn't specify how the money is being spent. Usually game designers in that aspect are pretty noble, but I can definitely see some people taking advantage of it.

Hopefully I have some money before this ends. I'd like to donate. Too bad this will probably be out after Smash Bros. Imagine if get enough money to make a Wii U version and then Nintendo decided to add Beck into Smash alongside Mega Man. That would be crazy.

I still believe that the money they are asking for a sidescroller is way too much, even if it is ported in this many devices...

Good job to everybody contributing to the fundraising!
Really seeing some massive fan support for this project.

The fact that it already surpassed its $900,000 mark in a matter of a few days is amazing.

Keep it up.

Not really. Even a sidescroller like Mighty will easily cost over $1 million to develop. $2.5 million isn't a surprising amount when you have to factor in other costs like manufacturing and marketing.

the ps3/360/wii u versiom strech goal has been pushed back to 2.2 million, as opposed to 2.5, and the 1.5 million mark has been passed, which means new game plus and turbo mode!

Takashi Tateishi, the dude behind the Mega Man 2 soundtrack, has joined the Mighty No. 9 team.

That means both MM1 and MM2 soundtrack composers are there.

That, and I've backed $80 in this stuff. I gotta get the beta, mang.

That's unfortunate. I just hope that it does well enough after release that other companies will be willing to help with the handheld ports, if the goal is reached. Renegade Kid already offered to help them make a 3DS port, so it's not entirely impossible.

That, and the single player Call stage goal has been reached as well. I can see the optional retro-style chiptune music and sound effects happening. Maybe not the online battle race mode, though.

I'm getting both the beta and the full game on PC, but I'm glad it has reached that many platforms. The more the better!

The art work and ingame screen shots that I've seen remind me a lot of megaman.

So close to that online race mode. I wonder what the last stretch goal will be? I'll probably get this on Wii U or Vita. Due to the possibility of cross buy that means I'll get it on PS3/PS4 too if I get the Vita version?

Yup mang it surpassed 4 millions! That is quite big!

Also, the three Call designs which are going to be refined for the backers to vote are...

Spoiler!

Also, backers, we are getting our forum accounts within a couple weeks. It's gonna happen on www.mightyno9.com, but right now, that link just brings us to the Kickstarter page.

Dat Mighty No. 4 (by Jay Edry)

I know the game's gonna be developed in the Unreal Engine and that it's gonna be in 2.5D, but if they use that shader everywhere in the game, it's gonna be really nice to look at!

You had to back the kickstarter or back through Paypal DURING the kickstarter and add an hefty sum (it was like 28$ in the US?) for a physical version of the PC game. However, it gave you a PC copy plus the digital copy you were going to choose.

Now, I think only Paypal remains but the physical goodies aren't available anymore. Upon release in 2015, the game will be digital only.

Too bad, you missed your chance.

The forums are coming later this month.

Here's a WIP.

Backers should receive their forum account when it's ready. It's gonna be backers-only at first.

I'll be there, so you people who have backed at least $5 here should find me in that place once it opens.

So yeah, they are starting to give our accounts. Each of us backers are getting it our Mighty Numbers and passwords, in batches every 15 minutes. It's gonna take a couple days until all of them are distributed, so you might wait a bit.

It was down indeed. But I just tried the website right now, and it's working.

I just don't have my account yet. I bet I'll be from the last ones to get it since I took a while before I backed.

Backers, it's now time to vote again for a Call design. The top 3 are colored and everything. You should receive a link in your e-mails if you haven't already.

Still waiting for my email.

Added after 24 minutes:

Wow, what is going on in this forum.

Community Moderators being accused of pushing their political agendas on the game, members being issued warnings for using the word "Ginger".

What have I stepped in to!?

Bump because the winner of the MN9 call contest thingie has been announced.

"Drum roll, please!

The Mighty Community has spoken, and we have heard your Call!

It?s finally time to unveil the winner of the Call Vote, and so, by popular demand, I give you the results of the second Call Vote:

In 3rd place... Call H! (15.47% of the vote)

In 2nd place... Call E!! (41.14% of the vote)

And so, the winner of the second and final round of the Call design vote, scoring 43.39% of the votes and thus becoming the basis for our heroine in the final game --

Call F, by Inti Creates? Yuuji Natsume!!!

(above) Call F, by Yuuji Natsume of developer Inti Creates

Call F exits the Battle Colosseum triumphant, as the people cheer her on!!

We?d like to say thank you to all the Backers who contributed to making this second vote a great success! The battle got heated at times, but the Mighty Numbers stayed strong and campaigned through numerous threads to support their favorite Call! We couldn?t have done it without you, and the goodwill and enthusiasm surrounding this Poll! Thank you, Mighty Beckers!

What?s your take on the vote? Wish to laud the victor? Lament the vanquished? Let us know how you feel in the forums, KS comments section, and on Facebook and Twitter!

In other news, the New Year is almost upon us and we hope you?re ready to welcome it!

While you?ll want to have your eyes on the skies for the New Year?s Eve fireworks, you might want to peep at the forums too on January 1st for a little surprise! (Shhhh?)"

-Dina (Mighty No. 1046), Koji Imaeda (Mighty No. 610), Mark (Mighty No. 84), and the Mighty No. 9 Team

Was pleased with both E and F, but I preferred F more because it compliments Beck.

Does everyone hate this game now?

What is happening?

I'm so confused.

  • Not only does it look nothing like the concept art but the game looks graphically worse than Kickstarters that earned an eighth of its budget.
  • The backer relations were bad, with backers being ignored and banned from the forum because the community manager was a girl more interested in current gamergate politics than actually supporting the product she was hired work on.
  • The gameplay demos look really slow and boring, and the levels all look pretty samey.
  • Inafune rode on his association with Mega Man to back the game despite being a concept artist, ideas guy and executive producer, not an actual game developer. All the talent that helped create the classic Mega Man titles wasn't involved with Mighty no. 9.
  • News started popping up about discussions to create an animated series and other game projects involving Inafune before the project was even complete.
People didn't get what they were advertised, the creator is scummy, the footage impressions aren't very positive and many backers got ripped off. It was handled really badly.

i trust inti creates and i think it'll be a good game. that being said i feel like inafune has proven himself to not be someone i'm interested in helping fund again. he seems more interested in making a brand and capitalizing on it than creating a good game.

the second campaign for voice acting is where i started to get wary. but the animated show announcement was pretty much the breaking point for me.

Welp. I only put $20 in so I'm disappointed but I'll live. As long as I get my game download, I will have gotten what I paid for.

I've been lucky/chosen wisely with the other kickstarters I've backed at least.

Inti Creates is a cool studio but I feel like whether they put together a decent game or a fantastic game is pretty reliant on the team they've partnered up with.

It's like WayForward where half the time they produce a cute licensed game and the other half of the time they put out something more substantial like Shantae.

Don't forget the rumors that Might No. 9 is being delayed yet again. I do think Inafune dug himself a pretty big hole.

I expected delays but the fact they thought it was a good idea to try and launch an animated show too was pretty ridiculous.

1. Haha, a game that doesn't look like it's concept art? No Way!

2. The backer relations are never good enough for anyone, but I've never seen one project that had enough "relations."

3. Well, that is opinion

4. I agree with you there.

5. Meh, what Inafune does outside of that project really has no bearing IMO

I just hope BLOODSTAINED ends up good since Igarashi is using the same dev team to make it...

Not looking like the concept art would be fine if it didn't look gross. It looks no better than that prototype they threw together in a week despite the long development period.
I have no idea where that four million went.

Most projects don't ban their backers from the community and all future updates because of their feelings on a completely unrelated issue posted on Twitter.

The stuff with MN9 is nowhere near as bad as the Homestuck game's kickstarter. I didn't support that one, thankfully. I'm sure the game will eventually come out but it's been kind of a mess so far.

Well it seems as if the delay was only a hoax

http://www.vgstations.com/en/news/it...ext-month.html

So i guess as disappointing as MN9 is becoming at least this didn't end up being true

Wasn't Hussie's money actually stolen by the team he hired to do the game?
That one definitely turned out worse but I can't really blame the guy for it.

That was the old delay rumor they discredited. Since then a new rumor has surfaced. If you noticed, that forum post was made over a week ago...

The game got delayed yet again.

Spring 2016 is when it's launching now.

The latest that I've heard is that the devs behind King's Quest did in fact steal the money.

it depends on if you'd like to be dead, or for your dead body to be dug up, and beaten around a bit before burying it again

So this is all they could do with the 3.8 million dollars of funding? Just look at what Platonic Games did with Yooka Laylee and all with less funding.

I'd like to see where all that money actually went.

I'm glad to hear that Yooka-Laylee is coming along nicely at least.

Man, the early footage of Yooka Laylee on the Kickstarter they did before get any funding at all looked ages better than this finished game does.

I mean they spent a bunch of money trying to turn this thing into a franchise. They basically wanted to turn Mighty No. 9 into the new Mega Man. They wanted it to be as much of an established franchise as Mega Man as soon as the game first came out.
Mighty No. 9 feels like somebody making a **** Mega Man clone but pretending that it's an actual replacement for Mega Man.
Yooka-Laylee just feels like if Rare never stopped making 3D platformers and this was just their latest game.
