Question Will fake DS games corrupt my 3DS?

ok well I bought a used heartgold game (no packaging) off of ebay because it was cheaper than any stores around and I was all happy and what-not until one time when I closed my 3ds with the game running, my 3ds acted as though I pressed the power button so when I opened it up it said ?software closed? and was asking me if I wanted to power off my 3ds. this has never happened to me before, while playng either DS or 3DS games. I thought that I just accidentally pressed the power button when I closed it and thought nothing of it.

Then it happened a few more times randomly and I was beginning to get worried. I tried pressing the power button by closing my 3ds but I couldn?t get it to happen. Then last night, mid-battle the game froze. There was nothing I could do but press the home button and restart the game. My 3ds has never frozen on me before.

Now I?ve been sitting here opening and closing my 3ds all different ways and trying to get it to glitch but it?s not doing anything.

Are these signs that my game is a fake? Or is there something wrong with my 3ds?

If it?s a fake is there anything I should worry about? I might still want to play it and just save more often but I?m worried that maybe my game will just break later on or that if I play online my 3ds might stop working right.

any help?

EDIT: I now am sure that it is a fake and would like to know if anything bad would happen to my 3DS if I continue to play the game?

For DS cartridges there is a way to tell if it's "fake," however, it could not corrupt the entire 3DS since DS games don't access the SD card. DSi games may have this possibility but I doubt that. It sounds like there was a glitch in your system, every once in a while some odd glitch can happen in the DS, DSi, and 3DS systems that are just odd like that.

Your best bet is to send in a report to Nintendo about it, giving what details you can. Let them know there may be a problem between the cartridge and the system so they can check and hopefully find it and update the 3DS so it won't effect you or anyone else anymore.

Go through the steps here: How to Determine if Your DS Game Is Fake: 7 Steps (with Pictures) If you determine your have a knockoff on your hands, stop playing said game. Another super easy way of determining whether the game you bought is fake is by checking the seller's location. If the seller is in Hong Kong, it's probably fake.

Well I've determined that it is indeed a fake but I want to know if my 3DS will get bricked if I continue to play it?

Not that I know of. Not all "fake" cartridges are actually fakes, some are just unofficial games not stamped by Nintendo, in this case you got an actual fake considering the game in question. However, I don't believe that Nintendo would be that petty, and since the DS games cannot access the SD card there's no way for them to modify the system itself. DSi and 3DS games I wouldn't use it, but since it's a DS game I wouldn't worry about it.
