Bigger screenshots from the article:

It looks amazing, about damn time.

So if anybody can help me with my problem: I have a North American 3DS but I'll be in Europe for at least a year. So I only have access to the NA eShop, but a French credit card. Is my only solution "importing" American eShop cards from Amazon and redeeming those?

Exciting! The old one on the 3ds was a fantastic game so I can expect this to be just as good.

It's too bad, but not surprising. That's why Shin'en said they didn't bring FAST Racing League to the 3DS.

From what I can see this isn't racing, just driving down a tunnel as fast as possible on your own? Am I wrong here and is there actually other hovercraft things to overtake etc.?

Admittedly, there are no rivals to race (all about beating your/other people's times). At least it has online leaderboards.

On a side note, the developer confirmed a sequel in the works "probably for the 3DS and Wii U" where one will be able to race competitors (QubicGames Talk AiRace, Nintendo and Indies on the Next-Generation | Electronic Theatre). It will probably take a few years before it is released, however.

In the meantime, we can enjoy this title, which seems to have pretty smooth gameplay, if this gameplay video serves as any indication.

The game just came out today, btw. I would buy it were I not presently several thousand kilometers away from my 3DS

I really wanted to buy it as well, but I only had $20.01 on my eShop account, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is $19.99 until the 22nd...

I will definitely get it eventually though, no doubt about it. Looks intense.

this game really looks promising with just $4.99... online leaderboards + intense speed race + great graphics quality (with just 800 blocks in memory)... in fact i just downloaded it right after the eshop's update and will try it later when i got home...

Here is the first video review (that I found) which does a good job going over the game and what it has to offer: Airace Speed Review Nintendo 3DS & 2DS - YouTube

I finally bought it and all I can say is wow. If you find racing games addictive and are decent at them, you will love this. It's hard as balls but you get better once you learn the tracks.

Those screens were bullshots, there is more aliasing in the game, but nothing out of the ordinary. The graphics and the tracks are really good, and it is indeed intense. Very intense. It fills the need I had for something Wipeout-like on the system. Of course it's not the same thing, but it's fast, it's futuristic, and it's beautiful.

There are leaderboards for every track to easily compare yourself to everyone as well as your friends, and there are 42 achievements.

So if you like speed and challenge, jump on it. Yeah there are no opponents, but you quickly forget that as you're trying not to crash and to finish with a decent enough time. Opponents just wouldn't work in this, the game goes too fast and the level design is really tricky. I can't wait to see what the next game will be like, they already have my money.

Thanks for your opinion of the game, Yanikun. I do plan on getting it once I am reunited with my 3DS. I too look forward to their sequel which will likely come to the 3DS (although the developer did suggest bringing it to the Wii U instead). Who knows; in a few year's time, the 3DS might finally have a superb non-kart racing title, on the eShop no less ^^.

A demo was just released for the game (in NA, anyhow) on the eShop, btw.

I just felt like I should bump this because it's such an underrated game. As Helico mentioned above, they released a demo, so I strongly recommend people actually give it a try.

One of my top 3 eShop games for sure.

Indeed. I have played the demo quite a bit and intend on eventually purchasing the game. As Yanikun stated above in his mini-review, the game may not have rivals against which one can race but it does not need them as the game is about finishing the races as quickly as possible without crashing.

The game (at least the demo) is quite a bit of fun.

A sequel to AiRace Speed has been announced.

It is essentially the same type of game (in which you try to race through a stage by yourself as swiftly and skillfully as possible), but with half the races and at half the price.

Here are some screenshots:

Trailer(s, kinda) :

And a few more screenshots:

I'm hyped. I did not expect a sequel so soon, or even on the 3DS. It's very interesting that they decided to go with a shorter game for a lower price. I basically take this as awesome DLC for me, and an easier entry point in the franchise for people who've never played any of the previous games. Seriously, $2.50. The effort they put into the graphics alone is worth spending the money, especially so if the game is as good as AiRace Speed and I assume it is. Racing fans should be happy.

It would be fun to see if they do anything with the franchise on the Wii U and I also hope the game does well enough that they consider making another one for the 3DS' successor.
