Default Curious Question: Is There a difference?

Hey guys,

I'm just wondering if there is a difference between a pokemon's ''happiness'' and a pokemon's ''affliction''. these two things, take a fair amount of role in terms of evolving certain pokemon.

For example, Eevee can evolve into Espeon during the day time when its HAPPINESS is high.. but now that eevee can evolve into the new fairy type Sylveon, with a certain amount of AFFLICTION(via Pokemon Amie). My question is though, is HAPPINESS and AFFLICTION the same thing or are they two completely different things? in terms of evolution.

I'm very interested in knowing and so far i havent heard anything about this yet... but thanks to anyone who replies.

I think they are two different values.

That would be abit of a shame but i guess it would make sense since the soothe bell is still in the game, it would be pointless to have it in their even though you can raise the affliction of a pokemon quiet easily using Amie.

Happiness and Affection are definitely two different values. I recently got a Sylveon, which requires max Affection with Pok?mon-Amie, but Return wasn't doing a lot of damage (since I only had her for about three levels).

However, my Sylveon's been getting plenty of benefits from having max Affection. She gains "boosted" experience (like a traded Pok?mon would, I assume) and she gets more critical hits and even cures herself of status conditions, 'cause she "doesn't want me to worry". These things don't happen every time, but it is often.

Hey trip,

Yeah i noticed those things too it is a rather nice touch to the whole ''interact with your pokemon'' sort of thing, i really like the way you connect with your pokemon in this game, it just feels more like that their actually YOUR pokemon.

Thanks for clarifying, i was actually hoping it was the same but oh well. it would of made the whole alot easier and shorter to evolve into certain pokemon.

i used a soothe bell to get an umbreon, which i guess was like all of the previous gens, running around a lot, then levelling it up when it gets so happy

but in amie, the heart levels, you kinda communicate more with your pokemon, for example when you choose them to battle, your pokemon will move slightly, and text will appear, my favourite so far is 'umbreon seems curious about emmas bag...' x3
and they are also more likely to land crits, dodge attacks because they knew you would want them to, be sad when they are hurt/on red hp, and heal from status problems quicker
