I will not buy a 3DS until they disable the region lock. This is supposed to be a system you take with you on vacation to other countries.

With the way this is worded, I feel like this implies he's saying that the 3DS will no longer be able to play your games once you leave its native region...

In any case, there have been hundreds of petitions on trying to remove region locking, Nintendo obviously isn't going to remove it. Why do people think that a petition solves everything?

Did you forget all about the time Nintendo removed the region lock on the NES Nintendo system with the revised NES2 model? If they removed the region lock on the NES why do you think it will never happen with the 3DS?

That is what all my friends used to say about the NES - that nintendo would never sell a model in the USA that would play Japanese games. And they were totally wrong about this. The truth of the matter is neither you or I know for sure if a region free 3DS will eventually be released. It's just that I'm humble enough to admit that I don't know one way or the other.

I had to import Panic bomber and Super Bomberman 3-5 from Japan because they were never released in the USA. Expensive but well worth it for the amazing 5 player party fun! Oh yeah and I also imported V-Tetris since the Virtual Boy has always been region-free.

The situation isn't remotely comparable.

For starters it is no longer 1993. The markets have changed, and the availability of import games and freedom of information regarding them have vastly changed, thanks to the internet. Nintendo will be much more interested in maintaining its region locks now than it was then, to protect those local markets.

More pressing is that the region lock removal was a side effect of fixing a physical hardware problem with the NES, and not what they had set out to accomplish.

Prices are different in different countries.

In some countries like UK, germany, spain etc they make games in their language. But here they don't, so the stores here in norway sells a mix of swedish and british 3ds games. That's why sometimes there is a CN code, and sometimes not

There sure is a lot of yelling in the description...

Region block really doesn't matter to me. After all, I don't really want to go to a completely different country, to buy a game I can't understand, knowing that it'll come out soon in my country anyways. (Probably).

Australia is notorious for overpricing games relative to other countries, but I really don't care about the region lock... like, at all.

I agree that region lock is one of the worst things that happen in video games and movies, but we can't do anything about that.

Here's a thing, though. Region locking is actually fading away from games. I mean, the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and the PlayStation Vita have no region locking. They are all able to play games from anywhere in the world. That is a really good sign. Maybe Nintendo won't include any region lock in their consoles that will succeed the Wii U and the 3DS.

You don't have to move outside of your country to get a game from, for example, Japan. I mean, there are websites like eBay and (especially) Play-Asia to buy games from all regions in the world.

Also, not every game from Japan is heavy on the story, which means you won't have to understand the language to play and enjoy the game. I own a copy of the Japan-only Xbox 360 game called Mushihimesama Futari, which is one of the very few region-free Xbox 360 games. It's a spaceship shooter. You shoot stuff. That's pretty much it. There's barely any story in that game. While the dialogues (that are barely there) are in Japanese, the menus are mostly in English.

I have another imported game as well, and it has no story. But the menus are in Japanese. However, I could quickly memorize what each option does just by trying them. It's a rhythm game, however.

Just avoid RPGs, visual novels and other story-heavy genres if you want to get a Japanese game that will never be localized without having a good knowledge of the language.

I bring games in from the UK, because every friggin game here in Australia is as expensive as fak.

Who isn't against region lock? It's keeping me away from Dragon Ball Heroes.

The games are expensive in the US too but I'd rather pay 40$ than over 70$. :/

I haven't really experienced any games that were Region Locked other than Mother 3, but that was for the GBA about 7 years ago.
