Durarara!! x2 Episode 1

I really liked the original series so I was super stoked to hear that they were working on another season. First episode was mostly setting up but i'm super excited to see what's gonna happen in ol' Ikeburo. So many players are assembling in town and I can already tell things are gonna get crazy. And that's saying something because things in Durarara!! were already crazy. So yeah, really looking forward to the rest of this season.

PS: Whoo Celty and Shinra! I missed them so much. They're so adorbs.

Some more I picked up

Death Parade
Very, very, very interesting and intense. Animation was good, thanks to Madhouse. Made me watch Death Billiards (the short film that gave birth to this show) and it was fantastic too. The opening song, though... THAT GOD DAMN OPENING SONG, THE FULL VERSION CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH

Koufuku Graffiti
Food po- I mean comfy SoL of the season. Looking forward to enjoying my next 13 or so sunday mornings with this show and a cup of coffee

I'm hesitant to enter this one because it's SHAFT, but most first episode reviews seemed decent

Shirobako Ep 14

Wow these guys are no help at all, and only choose people to further their own individual careers rather than the anime they're supposed to help produce. I suppose choosing voice actors is more than simply choosing who is most talented, but also about which voice actor can reel in the most money and publicity for the company in general. No wonder getting jobs is tough.

Anyway, we also got a new character - I'm currently suspicious about him since he suggested Aoi check out some sketchy place for help. His attitude isn't very kind either. At least Midori is getting a job now, and she's awesome! Should balance out the new guy quite right.

Death Parade Ep 2

Wow that face... Nona is surprisingly intimidating - Certainly not what I would expect. Anyway this episode was really needed to clarify some parts not explained in the previous episode and do confirm that reincarnation is good while void is bad. I had my suspicions that Machiko might have ended up with the wrong punishment, but let it go since I trusted Decim was probably right. Anyway, I think I might like this.

The Rolling Girls Ep 2

This show continues to be energetic and fun, and probably the most stylish anime this season too. Though unfortunately, the two bests who have provided most of the action are out of commission now, and I assume the following episodes will just be a long roadtrip. I do hope this anime continues to deliver though - The OP was pretty awesome even if it was long haha.

Durarara!! x2 Episode 2

YES! YES! YES! And just like that we're back in business. I didn't think things would ramp up so quickly, but it's barely episode 2 and we're already running at half speed. Izaya's sisters are so much fun and cute as a button to boot. Something off about ol Aoba but I cant quite put my finger on it. Oh well, i'll just have to wait and see. Gah! I haven't been this excited for an anime in ages.

Seems Origa has passed away due to lung cancer. Many remember her for doing the vocals with Yoko Kanno for Ghost in the Shell SAC and 2nd GIG

Shirobako Ep 15

his was kind of hard to follow with subtitles on since this episode was heavy on explanations of different types of meeting pre-production. Though of course, it was also very informative, though wonder if there would be a way of doing these explanations without the heavy use of exposition. Well, hopefully this episode was done the way it was to get all of that out of the way. The ending of this episode could have been seen coming since the start of this season in episode 13. Naturally, the author was going to take issue with something at this point of the game and ruin everything for Aoi's peace of mind. I hope everyone stays sane.

Tokyo Ghoul Root A Ep 3

Well there was more Kaneki this episode, but at the same time, not enough. Rather, this episode did its best to show Kaneki by showing everyone else connected to him haha. Ah well... On the bright side, we do finally get to see Takatsuki. I'm looking forward to see her interactions later on with other characters like Amon. Otherwise, this is just another buildup episode it seems.

The Rolling Girls Ep 3

This episode wasn't nearly as bad as I was led to believe. Sure the animation wasn't anything near the level of the previous episodes, it it didn't go down the gutter either. The artsyle is still nice to see, and I don't think the characters or story are particularly awful. All I'll say is that this episode was mostly serving as the start of the actual series, and I eagerly await the next episode.

Durarara!! x2 Episode 3 & 4

Ikebukuro is such a lively place this time of year, dont you think? But seriously, these episodes were so great. I just love how all these little plot threads twist and turn until eventually coming together. And this incident was just the start! This season might just top the first. Cant wait to see.

Tokyo Ghoul Root A Ep 5

Alright this was the episode I was waiting for. And for the most part, this episode was spot on. The only real gripe I have with this is the awful censorship. Seriously, blurring? They're just stab wombs damn it. I hope a BD is released and the censorship is either changed to something better or outright removed. The ending theme with Tatara and Hoji was pretty cool too.

Shirobako Ep 17

Another solid episode - I'm surprised PA Works could maintain such an excellent quality for so long now. We got to see Honda again, and he looks great. Makes me wonder when we'll see the other two old production staff people again. The actual PV they made was pretty cool - It seemed like an anime I'd watch and I do like Aria's design. And at least Hiraoka at least didn't blow off everyone, though his attitude still needs working on.

The Rolling Girls Ep 4

I liked this episode. I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that the show has dropped off a cliff since episode 2 - The last two episodes weren't boring at all. Episodes 3 and 4 seemed to act as setup episodes for a bigger plot involving Chiaya and her mother. I actually wonder if any of the four girls will end up becoming Bests.

What are good anime to watch this end of winter into upcoming summer? I'm looking for something funny/slice of life to something action oriented, preferably fantasy and not mecha/space

Durarara!! x2 Episode 5 & 6

I was kinda meh on episode 5 because of Yagiri's boring ass narration and not a lot of interesting things happening but the set-up episodes are always kinda slow. Still, episode 6 was cool enough to make it worth it. I'm really starting to like all the new characters they've been introducing. It'll be fun to see those super-powered freaks go at it in Ikebukoro.

Shirobako Eps 18 & 19

I'm being a bit more infrequent with my episode impressions, but I still watch anime. Anyway these recent episodes are dealing Miyamori's ordeals at her new position as Production Desk. Hiraoka's character is given a little more detail through Yano, who appears to have worked with him in the past. He seems to be like Yano, but shows are far more different type of cynicism and therefore doesn't cooperate very well with some of his peers. We also got some backstory for the company and the President. I was personally happy to see everyone's younger selves - Especially Shigeru and his wife. The backgrounds shown in the ending of episode 19 were really pretty.

Anyway, we're getting close to the ending and Misa and Shizuka still haven't been given a lot of attention yet in my opinion. Also the preview for the last episode had Ochai narrate - I kinda wonder if he'll ever return.

Death Parade Ep 07

Another world-building episode, and probably the best one. In particular Decim's reasoning for his hobby were very touching. Considering he's the only Arbiter with human emotions, I'm curious if anything bad might happen to him. Nona's interaction with Quin and later Oculus really make me fear for some of the characters in the series. I guess it has a lot to do with the fact that they still haven't really explained Oculus' role aside from being that "most akin to God." It also seems to be suggested that Nona might face some high consequences for her actions. Anyway, the next episode appears to be a special case, so I am excited for that one.

PARASYTE: THE MAXIM.
Every episode rocks. Most wicked Seinen anime in ages.
Although the manga fans are disappointed, I believe. I intend to read the manga but haven't as of yet. But I don't really care right now, because this anime is rocking my world.

If there's any other fans, I'd love to do weekly episode discussions/review whatever.

Yep, I'm watching Parasyte.

I'm a fan of the manga and so far it's been a pretty faithful adaptation.

I'm watching Jojo's Bizzare Adventure and I'm loving it so far. It may be ridiculous and stupid and over the top many times but it is so enjoyable! I've not enjoyed an anime so much since Space Dandy.

Death Parade Ep 9

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this episode. And maybe because I can't empathize with any of the guests in this episode. Revenge by murder is not something I can ever justify, and it's just so weird to see Onna trying to save one or both of them by convincing them to let go of their anger and hate. I'm not sure sure if the episode is trying to tell me something about myself, and if it is it's being way too heavy handed in its delivery.

As per usual, no one watches anime enough to discuss what they watch.

Anyway Parasyte is done now. It's a really solid adaptation, and it really bothers me when people ask if it will have a second season haha. Death Parade and Shirobako will be finishing shortly too, then Rolling Girls the day after. Overall, it was an okay season but I'm confident Spring will be much much better

Alright, finally got to watch Kekkai Sensen's premier episode, and despite starting off rather slow, it ended quite nicely. It's definitely something of a shonen anime, something I didn't really watch last season aside from maybe Parasyte, so it should hopefully be nice to watch the whole way.

I'll check out Hibike! Euphonium later, but it did premier today for anyone interested in a music anime.

Only two anime caught my eye this season, Sidonia no Kishi and Gunslinger Stratos. I watched the first episode from the first season of Sidonia no Kishi and it seemed interesting, I might watch it. I didn't watch Gunslinger Stratos yet but I read earlier on Kotaku that it kinda sucks...

Charlotte Ep 1

So I can sorta see the Lelouche comparisons now, but the major difference is the gap in intelligence between the two characters. The main character here, whose name I don't remember, is a complete moron who actually risked the lives of two people including himself just to impress a girl haha. I guess it's refreshing to have an asshole with super powers as the main character though. Hopefully this series goes well.

Gatchaman Crowds Insight Ep 1

Not a lot happened - I think Inbound and this could have been merged into one episode, but I'm fine. Anyway the characters seem to be the same, Hajime especially. I absolutely love the new OP and the new Gatchaman transformation theme and both new characters are really cute. Hajime's mood will probably be a big part of the story here. It's odd that only her and great grandpa-san are the only grey emotes within the whole episode.

Shokugeki no Souma Ep 14

So this ends the Cooking Camp arc, and introduces Alice. This wasn't a very intense episode and could have worked as the cour 1 ending, but it's cool. I'll be looking forward to the next episode to see if we jump straight into the Autumn Election arc.

It's not bad at all honestly. It's got the production values right, but overall it seemed a bit on the boring side with a just a few standout episodes. The finale still isn't out since they can't find a time slot to air the episode lol

Also Monster Musume has won me over. Eagerly awaiting episode 2!

Trigger talked about their new original anime at Anime Expo. Seems they're going for a Persona-style anime with a setting that focused on bridges. Would be really different from their last couple shows.

Prison School came out. It was censored awfully, and paced pretty awfully too. I'm unsure if they're trying to tell us to buy the BDs or read the manga

Some parts were of course going to be censored because breasts, penises, and vaginas are prohibited, but they went the extra mile and pulled a bathing suit Tharja.

Finally got around to watching the God Eater anime. On episode 2 so far and I like what i'm seeing. Ufotable makes a damn good looking show and the music is pretty nice too. Lenka seemed kinda generic at first but it looks like things might change from here on out. Will watch episode 3 and 4 tomorrow and post my impressions.

A Centaur's Life isn't like a sexy series. It does have the occasional nudity in it but it's not sexualized or anything.

It's just about different species coexisting in daily life with the occasional commentary on racism.

I do agree that's a pretty bad shirt to sell. That phrase is overplayed anyways.
If I didn't know it was from Assassination Classroom, I would think that whoever wore it had problems or was trying too hard to be edgy.

Either way the "Keep Calm" is a terrible meme now. Ruined a perfectly good British WWII propaganda icon.

Durarara x2 Eps. 1-12 (DUB)

So after stopping and waiting for the dub to catch up with the first arc of Durarara x2, I finally got around to watching all of it. I gotta say, it did not disappoint. Even though it was, in itself, a self-contained arc it managed to sow a lot of future plot seeds here and there. And just being able to see all those interesting characters go at it made it all worth it. Can't wait to see what happens next. As for the dub, gotta say they really brought in a lot of heavy hitters. Not a bad voice in the lot. I even liked Varona and Sloan's voices and I usually never like hearing foreign accents in dub anime because it always sounds cheesy or bad. Favorite new character has to be Rocchi. Who wouldn't like a guy that can go from beating you senseless to being best buds in the course of a minute? Anywho, can't wait for the dub of the second season to start. I know the original is already way ahead but I'm just too in love with mah American voice actors.

I think it is a bit offensive that you put "Weeaboos are Watching" at the end of the thread title, given the true definition of a "Weeaboo" is someone that is just obsessed with Japan, claims they are from the country and neglects their own. It is true that it also relates to liking anime and other Japanese things, but that is its own separate word and I think that a "weeaboo" should be someone with the aforesaid traits, not someone that just likes anime. It is pretty redundant to relate "Weeaboo" to anime fans.

Hanging around this place has largely desensitized us to it because everybody uses it for everything you could possibly imagine relating to anime and Japan, the word completely lost any meager power that it may have had.

But in the grand scheme of things you shouldn't be letting yourself get offended by words. It's a slow descent into absurdity when you start getting offended by individual words regardless of context or intent.

Y'all should watch My Love Story! (Ore Monogatari!) It's shoujo but it's worth it just for the facial expressions:

I was the one who made the subtitle. I'm not saying that the only people who like anime are weaboos.

I like anime. My friends like anime. We call each other weaboos as a joke. The word "weaboo" is not a real insult as far as this particular community goes.

Himouto! Umaru-chan is starting to feel blank even for a SoL. The punchline is always the same "LOL GET IT? SHE'S AN ANNOYING BRAT AND SHE DRINKS COKE AND, AND, SHE'S LAZY!" and the jokes are incredibly simple.

Also it literally used one "joke" twice, but with the apparent punchline "LOL, GET IT? IT HAPPENED AGAIN, JUST LIKE IN A PREVIOUS EPISODE!"

Started watching Shokugeki no Souma again. Anywho,

Shokugeki no Souma Eps. 15-17

Man, this show does not get at all boring. You'd think that after so many episodes and so many foodgasms I'd be bored of it all, but it just keeps getting better and funnier. It was nice to see Souma and his deadbeat dad interact a bit and it was even better because we got some insight into what their relationship is like. Still, a lot more mysteries sprang up from those episodes. Then they switched gears and went to some sort of shopping mart filler and it threw me for a loop. I know the show doesn't necessarily need a love interest, but it keeps bringing up so many waifus for Souma. Now we have Erina, Megumi, Nikumi and "I'm so plain girl". Just make up your mind already, show! Will wait and see where this shopping mart plot goes. Apparently it's gonna tie into the election arc but I can't tell if it's filler or not. Oh well.

those are the longest ****ing credits in the history of history. For a second I thought Trigger had made a short about the Kanji face man. Also I have no idea what's going on. They're all speaking in Japanese.

Oh hahah. Sorry. Will watch later. Anywho,

Shokugeki no Souma Eps. 18-21

Finally caught up with all the episodes. The finale of the karaage episode was super funny if only because the owner lady's foodgasm was hilarious. It also really made me want to try to make some karaage on my own. After that the autumn election arc started with a bang. Hayama makes for an interesting rival and I really liked seeing all the gang go to their training. The actual curry contest itself was hype as **** too. Those judges and random characters explaining those cooking techniques and **** just makes you excited. Unfortunately they had to go and **** on my happiness with all this Hisako and Erina ****. I honestly hate Erina as a character and an entire episode dedicated to that thirsty ass chick was just awful. Hope Erina and Hisako die in a fire. Looking forward to the rest of the arc.

Shokugeki no Souma Episode 22

New episode was pretty amazing. At first I thought they were just speeding through the candidates from block B so they could get to block A faster (well they probably were doing that) but then even I forgot about Megumi. tfw she kicked all sorts of ass even though evrryone forgot about her. Super hype. Mah girl Megumi finally flew. I also enjoyed all the whacky names they gave for everyone. Personal favorite was Takumi's. Anywho, looks like next we finally get to see the main event. Really looking forward to Not-Sasuke's dish. Gonna be fun on a bun.

PS: Pour one out for Orange hair girl. She suffered from a severe case of minor character syndrome.

Shokugeki no Souma Episode 23:

This show is just too much. THIS PERSON IS THE BEST THING EVER! NO WAIT, IT'S ACTUALLY THIS PERSON WHO IS THE BEST! Glad Ryo is gonna play a big role but it kinda made me sad they grouped him with the other minor characters. Still, it was a pretty nice episode. Judge Lady's reactions were just the best. Poor lady just had too much. Next week is the best of the best, my boy Souma and Hayama. Dat spice bomb. **** is gonna be tight, man.

Prison School is the touching love story of a ruthless prison warden with a urine fetish and her desperate attempts to get revenge on one of her inmates.
It's ahead of its time.

Yo-Kai Watch Episodes 1-4:

I know I might be biased because of how obsessed I am with the game, but I gotta say the anime is pretty good. It's got a real whacky sense of humor and the localizers don't hold back on a lot of the big stuff. People dying and **** and accidentally killing poodles. It's pretty great considering it's on Disney XD. So yeah, go watch this ****. A lot of effort went into this for something made to sell toys and video games.

Yo-Kai Watch Episode 5:

Man, this show is just great. They had an exorcism going on and all the words the priest was saying was gibberish and he actually said "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". Best ****ing show. I sincerely hope the media blitz around Yo-Kai Watch succeeds so we can get more of the show.

One Punch Man is an obvious must-choice for this season. First episode did it's best to live up to Yusuke Murata's incredible art, second episode airs tonight.

For those who somehow don't know about it, it's a parody series about superheroes and the name of the show pretty much capsules the entire plot.

Watched some of Makoto Shinkai's stuff. (Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised to Us in Our Early Days)

His stuff gets a lot of high ratings but his films have very little rewatch value for me.

My opinion on everything I've seen from Shinkai is that his stuff would work better as shorts than feature length films.
Like I enjoyed the two halves of 5cmps a lot as standalone pieces but the way they came together in the end didn't feel very satisfying to me.

His animation is ****ing gorgeous though.

Definitely agree. His style is more suited to shorter work.

While his environmental animation has always been top notch, Voices of a Distant Star has some horrendous character animation. It has improved astronomically since then.

A really good short by him:

A Lull in the Sea has been pretty nice so far.

It's a fantasy that centers on conflicts between the people of the sea and land. The backgrounds and environment are beautiful.

Ok, cool.

My one complaint is that the romance in A Lull in the Sea gets so annoying at times. Like, jeez, calm down children.

That was my main annoyance too... the hormones in that show are through the roof, but they are teenagers, so it's understandable.

Finally finished it yesterday. The whole "get really emotional then run away" got super old and predictable.

The ending was nice tho

And I loved the atmosphere of the whole series.

Now, I'm watching Young Black Jack.

It's based on a manga written in the 1970s by Osamu Tezuka. It's an episodic medical drama. It can be melodramatic at times but it has some interesting elements.

I'm familiar with the original manga so I'm not sure how it would appeal to newcomers to the character.

Its first two episodes were great and I'm looking really forward to where its going, although the time travel premise can quickly become stupid if it doesn't play its cards right. It's definitely the show to keep your eye on this season.

It is!

I watched JinRoh recently too. That one was super depressing.

So Funi just dropped the trailer for the English release of Mamoru Hosoda's newest film, The Boy and the Beast.

Looks totally cool. You might know Hosoda from his previous works Summer Wars and Wolf Children. So yeah, he has a pretty good track record. I dont think I can make a screening of the movie as Funi always does these things super far away from me but i'll be there day one for the bluray release. Anyone else hyped?

inb4 furry comments.

I've been hyped for The Boy and the Beast for awhile now.

I can't wait to finally see it.

My all time favorite series is definitely Sailor Moon but lately I've been watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and I've really been enjoying that, might push that up to my number 2 spot. Yu Yu Hakusho is an old favorite as well.

Haha, that's definitely one way of putting it. Gotta love when they reveal the entire backstory that's supposed to serve as a twist at the beginning of the first episode.

That's by the OPM writer, eh? Interested. Funny to me that they sorta kept his badly drawn style haha.

Yes and I'd argue it's better written than OPM, it's a yokai-style coming-of-age story instead of a ridiculous powerlevel superhero parody. I find it awesome that they kept the style as ONE as possible out of respect.

Is it still worth watching?

I've seen ads for it but I haven't checked it out yet.

People were going crazy for Erased after the first amazing average episode. Checked it out and didn't seem special. Maybe people were just desperate for a good show this season cuz the rest doesn't look that great.

It's a fun mystery show with good animation, solid direction and likable characters.
The suspects super predictable but the road it takes to get there has been enjoyable.

eh, I just find anime kinda average nowadays in general. I've yet to run into an anime that I personally like anymore. I watched Your Lie in April recently, it's pretty okay.

If your interests lie outside of shonen/shoujo- your anime options are quite limited.

As I've gotten older, it's hard to tell whether or not anime has actually gotten worse as a whole or I'm simply no longer in the target demographic.

This, Space Patrol Luluco and Kiznaiver are the only things I'm really watching this season.
Avoiding the Phoenix Wright adaption because I know it's only going to end in disappointment and the only other worthwhile thing is another Macross spinoff.

Also ending of the season right here

And speaking of never ending shonen, My Hero Academia premiered this week and I am in love again. It surpassed my expectations and more. Great animation and great voice cast. I love how they were able to faithfully capture some of the more emotional moments in the first chapter. I have faith that Bones will do me right with this one. Cant wait for episode 2.

Feels like BnHA is getting mixed / negative impressions from anime-only watchers with a single episode attention span.

In other news, the new JoJo OP is eargasm. Sakamoto desu Ga OP is even more eargasm. Pretty happy with this season so far, especially theme song wise.

Luluco is the masterpiece from Trigger we've been waiting for.
Are they finally saving anime?

Quite a dead thread, so I'll post my absolute recommendation from this season:

Mob Psycho 100.

No, ignore Bon about ignoring Flow. Watch Mob Psycho. But seriously, it's a great show and Mob is such a fun character. Just an adorable bundle of nerves and awkwardness.
