Haruhi Suzumiya. Then again, I don't watch a lot of anime, I just read a ton of manga. Black God would have to be the greatest manga of all time though, but the anime adaptation sucks.

the reason I don't watch naruto is b/c half of every episode is explaining what happened the episode before and then in the last 5 minutes of the show it progresses 10 minutes from where you left off

Why is everyone so overly protective nowadays? What makes it more intolerable is that "virtual" crimes aren't allowed, yet real crimes like rape are still allow to be present. So they have a problem with children watching a harmless show like Pokemon where Ash and his friend fight against Team Rocket, yet it's okay to see a person be murder in a gritty fashion? The hypocritical nature of his bill makes it especially intolerable. Anime is very dear to me. A part of my personality, you see. So this is somewhat displeasing news to me.
I'm in some agreement with Mike Hawk though. While I have nothing against moe, the law should drive the anime/manga industry into other, new directions. Unfortunately, the bill limits how far artists can go with their work, so we could actually be losing more creativity by banning these "dangerous" elements from the genre. As for this whole "think of the children" argument they're pulling off - I don't think they're doing this right. I've always found it strange that children in Japan could watch stuff like Soul Eater and other suspect anime on their television sets, but banning certain themes doesn't seem like the best solution to this. If anything, better regulation and rating systems should be implemented. At least this won't prohibit my Panty & Stocking finale. Quote:

I've enjoyed a few anime, and quite a few manga due to being a brief subscriber to Shonen Jump. When it comes to anime, my all-time favorite is definitely the classic Dragon Ball franchise. My favorite manga is most likely Yu Yu Hakusho.
Unfortunately, I haven't actively been watching or reading any anime or manga in a while

I've watched and read a lot.
Anyone interested in getting into it should watch Studio Ghibli productions and movies relating to Satoshi Kon (Memories, Perfect Blue, Paprika, etc.). Akira and Appleseed might also be worth watching too. And yeah, I'm aware those are all movies. Getting into a series is a bit more difficult since the genres and plots are pretty diverse. Most people I know are familiar with shōnen, which would include stuff like Naruto and One Piece. I actually read the "Big 3" since they have their good times. I've always thought of Cowboy Bebop as a nice entry point, since it appeals to Western viewers. It's a great series too. I'm more of a slice of life person myself, and I absolutely love Yotsuba&!. |

I'm reading Naruto,Bleach, and Air Gear. Cowboy Bebop and Claymore are also good ones. As far as movies goes I watched Paprika, Spirit Away, The girl who travels threw time one. I am not as hard core as some people but I'm into it. Just started soul eater and a couple of others.

Yep...been watchin anime since I was a lil kid.(20 now) Toonami? Been there for the rise, and the fall. A lil adult swim here and there. DragonBallKai on the CW? I was there when DBZ was on the "WB". Only recently(since 2005), have I begun watchin sub versions of anime. Its been awesome. I love both subs/dubs. Depends which I find first. No preference.
I'm more of a shounen fan, but I've spread my wings over the past couple of years, and really tapped into more diverse series. Sometimes the best way to find a show is to randomly select one out of those long lists on sites like crunchyroll/toonzaki(keepin it legal). Top 5 recent anime I've viewed would be...(1=highest, 5=lowest) 1.Gurren Lagann(freakin epic. How it starts...is "sooo....." different from how it finishes. Only flcl fans can comprehend its epicness  2. Amagami SS: romantic comedy. Good stuff. No long filler eps. 3. Hitman Reborn: love how the series grows. Watch the 1st opening. Then the 6th. Yeah. You know what I mean. 4. Darker than Black: gritty city life, supernatural powers,mysteries...nothings what it seems. 5. Air Gear: No comment. Gotta see it to believe it. 5. I enjoy Pokemon-- stopped watching it for a while after the VA switch, but now that they have gotten to be bearable again, I'm back to watching it. The movies especially are enjoyable for me.
I watched a little Naruto (subbed) for a while... But then I just stopped. I don't know, I found the show interesting, I suppose, but not really as interesting as everyone was making it out to be at the time. I used to love Digimon, even more than the Pokemon show. It was practically the only good show I didn't need cable to watch, and I got up early (or stayed up late) to watch it every time it was on. This was back when 4Kids was called the FoxBox, and Digimon was at season 2... The one with Veemon? That was my favorite generation of Digimon. Oh, and Sonic X! Can't forget that! I really liked those shows, even with all the complainants others made about them. Does Super Mario Bros. Z count? I love those shows! But I guess they don't really count as anime... I don't think TMNT counts either, does it? I guess one could call me a casual anime lover. If I enjoy it, I watch it, no matter what the style-- live action, anime, American cartoon, or CG-- I watch what I enjoy, no matter what style or genre it is. As for Manga... has anyone seen the Zelda manga by Akira Himekawa? They have wonderful art, and the stories are well done. However... I'm not an anime otaku na no da! I don't even know half of the things people are listing here... (But, admittedly, I might be considered a gēmu otaku by some...) I have two friends who are anime/manga addicts, though, which is how I knew that some things are better seen with subs.

I'd personally avoid those at this point in time simply because they're ongoing series, and because only certain parts of both series are actually good. Same applies to One Piece. I dunno, try Fullmetal Panic? Darker than Black?  Fullmetal Panic is an action comedy, that I think anyone could enjoy. Its about a 17 year-old military specialist who is assigned to protect a miss Kaname Chidori. Humor breaks out when we discover that the specialist's greatest ordeal is fitting into the high school lifestyle. |

Naruto Shippuden is by far the best Anime Ive seen. You should watch the origional Naruto, but stop after episode 200 something. After that the other 200 are fillers.
DBZ is good, and One Piece was ok the few times I've watched it. For some reason I watched an anime called Vampire Knight and it was decent. |

My best suggestion if you like Lucky Star is to check out Azumanga Daioh as well. DBZ / Naruto are far too long running they drag and waste too much of my life. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood may be 64 episodes but, a) it follows the Manga (unlike the failure of the first rendition) which has a good well planned story development from start to finish. Spice and Wolf is also decent if you don't want too far fetched anime, but if you like Lucky Star my guess is you like happy / crazy anyway. Hayate No Gotoku is a good one if you want general comedy, however this is reference heavy (both in anime world and western culture), so if you have not watched much anime as well, a lot of the jokes may fly over your head. Shorter Series I Enjoy Bakemonogatari The World Only God Knows One of the top selling in Japan at the moment is Puella Magi Madoka And one of the ones I think is all time amazing is Kara no Kyoukai. But this has very strong themes including suicide, homicide, rape, etc. If your after Anime that's fully perverted, forum rules may prohibit me from posting these. |

And I dont know why everyone thinks DBZ is good. If you analyze it, its actually very ****. Kai might remove the giant yawn factor but... DBZ = An enemy shows up, and after screaming in front of each other then having a bit of a bout we realize we are weaker than the enemy so we must train then scream in front of them, try again and then defeat them. Muck around a bit, now another enemy has shown up and after screaming in front of them for ages we realize they are stronger so we get stronger then scream in front of them for ages then defeat them. This happens about like what, 12 times over the course of 250 episodes? "This world will blow up in 5 minutes", *60 minutes of screaming while facing each other later* "There is only 4.5 minutes left before the world will blow up" Wait, what? Yes if you simply anything it can sound dumb, I say this about games all the time, but the problem with DB is that I could just really feel this simplification to a point it bothered me, that it did simply repeated the dragged out cycle too many times. It also escalated too far for its own good imo. I have watched it and had no problem with the depth during the story progression at the time. But got frustrated with it, and it started to leave a bad after taste. Thats just me tho, personally I lose interest with series that drag on like this or get "contaminated" by fillers. Ok, I watched 3 episodes of Cromartie High. I didn't like it. It was a little too pointless.

I recommend one piece. Definitely the best shounen anime out there. I tried bleach but it was just fight scenes one after another and if there was any humor, it flew right over my head. Then again, all the guys I know seemed to like it so maybe it's because I'm not into pure violence.
Soul eater was decent but got crappy at around the 3/4 mark. That's because it diverged from the manga and they had to wing the ending. If you're going to watch FMA, go for brotherhood rather than the earlier version. I didn't watch the anime but I loved and still love the manga. Good series. As for dbz, I agree with the earlier poster about it being very repetitive. I never actually watched the whole thing because I got bored fast. |

Elfen Lied is my favorite anime of all time, it is very violent however so you know.

I just finished watching Bakuman a few weeks ago, and I loved it. Its by the same manga duo that created Death Note, but its not like Death Note at all. Its more like a slice of life mixed with a bit of romance.
Summary -- Bakuman begins with Moritaka Mashiro, a junior high student, leaving his notebook containing a drawing of his crush and classmate Miho Azuki in class. When he notices and returns to the classroom after school, his classmate Akito Takagi is waiting for him with the notebook and tells him that he believes Azuki likes Mashiro too. Mashiro ends up thinking that Takagi also likes Azuki. Takagi then tries to persuade him to become a mangaka (manga artist) and draw the art for the stories he writes. However, Mashiro is reluctant due to his disillusion with modern society and the fate of his uncle, a former serialized mangaka who died from overwork while trying to regain that status. Later Takagi calls Mashiro telling him that he is going to confess to Azuki, Mashiro runs down to Azuki's house to find Takagi waiting for him. Takagi then calls for Azuki and confesses to her that he and Mashiro are aiming to be mangaka. Mashiro then learns that she wants to be a seiyū (voice actor) and, thinking of the romantic misadventures of his uncle, proposes to Azuki who accepts under the condition that they will only marry after both achieve their dreams. With a goal before him Mashiro sets out to make this dream a reality. His goal is to have Azuki voice the heroine of the anime adaptation of his manga. To have the highest probability for success, he and Takagi vow to become serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump and attempt to create one of the most popular manga in the magazine. ^ I think its really great. I powered through all 25 episodes in about three days, haha. Although some of the plot twists are a bit weak, it has enough momentum to keep itself going, and it follows the manga pretty well. It also does a pretty good job of explaining how a manga is created and the steps it takes to get it published, which I found really interesting. Anyway, keep watching even if you feel it start to slow down, it'll pick back up again. I think Bakuman is something any manga fan can appreciate. =)

first off, considering your watching lucky star, I would say azumanga daiho, kind of the same humor, but different. hetallia is adorable~ but not everyones cup of tea. black buttler. an amazing anime. simply put. darker but still has its lighthearted moments. darker than black is very good as well. kind of dark and very interesting plot.. I heard the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya is good. and lastly, katekyo hitman reborn!!! my own personal favorite~just a short list of a lot of different genra~ have fun ^_^ |

If you like a series that's kinda mysterious and set in "our world" try "Monster".
Also, if you like people in Robots fighting and a deep engrossing story, try Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (Gundam double o) I haven't seen any other Gundam series and liked it and understood the story. One Piece is also awesome... but WAY too long. If you want something funny, then try Ranma 1/2. (It's old but funny as hell... well if your between 14-20.) Gurren Laggan is also awesome, good story and also somewhat similar to Gundam! My favorites from my list are: Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Gurren Laggan P.S. The only Gundam series I ever watched and will watch is Mobile Suit Gundam 00 XD XD XD P.P.S. I only read the first 10-15 posts so excuse me if I listed something you don't like or someone else listed

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude, Shin Chan is sooooooo goooooooood. I remember watching that on Adult Swim and I loved it.
