Default Masuda Method breeding - Region or Language?

I've googled this for ages and everyone seem to claim different things. Is it the region or the language that decides if the Masuda Method (increased shiny chance) takes effect? I have one german and one english Pok?mon paired. My game is ENG, and checking the german Pok?mon, it says GER.

Will the MM work or does it have to be from a different region? As in Japanese or American?

I'm pretty sure it's region. I actually have a friend who bred two fire types (JPN and EU) and ended up with a shiny Volcanra (who he uses in battle EVERY TIME) and the JPN one was actually a English game.

If English and French work, then English and German should work as well! I figured that was the case since it says in the game what language it's from, not country. (ENG on American as well).

I've hatched 300 eggs so far looking for a shiny Litwick. I want that awesome orange Chandelure!

I always thought it was the actual language that mattered, since somebody informed me that an American Pok?mon breeding with a Ditto from UK wouldn't work because they were both considered "English" by the game.

However, XY has convient little tags for foreign Pok?mon that say "JPN", "GER", "ITL", and so on and I would assume that as long as those tags are different, it should be fine. If a Pok?mon is from your region, it won't have a tag, obviously.

Just because I named a Goomy from my country El Diablo does not mean he works in the Masuda method, so language shouldn't matter

id say the language of the dex entry, if that pokemon is foreign with 'FRE' or 'JPN' in the summary, and if it gave you a foreign entry of that pokemon into the pokedex then it should be foreign region and it should work

i hope that makes sense ^^

best bet would be go with a japanese one if you can, bc its both a different region and a different language
