Why is Super Training a futile effort for me?

Default Why is Super Training a futile effort for me?

I'm new to Super Training so sorry if this question seems stupid. Completed level 2 Defense training with my Beedrill and gained 8+ for Defense. Its Defense stat is still 15 though. It hasn't changed at all! I thought that for every 4 EV, you gain a one point increase for a particular stat. What am I missing?

(Someone from Nintendo Life have since informed me that stat increases will show upon the next level up...)

I leveled up my Beedrill to lv. 12 and its Defense stat increased by only one point. I received 8+ for Defense after completing the lv. 2 Super Training regimen so shouldn't my Defense stat have increased by at least 2 points after the level up?

What exactly am I doing wrong?

Every 4 points in effort values increases your BASE stats by 1. Not current stats. Its stats are calculated using the base stats in some complicated equation that i havent bothered to learn.

In other words, you can gain your EVs at any point of that pokemons existance, and it will gain base stats, which are then calculated along with the level of your pokemon to give its actual stats you seen on the screen.

Ahh, many thanks. Though I'll have to research what base stats are as I have no idea what they are.
