Default Just bought a used 3DS XL

Just bought a used Zelda 3DS XL. Came with the Zelda game installed. I believe the previous owner downloaded the game onto the system.

The problem is, I want to log out of the previous owner's NNID and register my own. First of all, I don't even know how to log out and log in as my own.

How can I log out of his and log in as myself? And will the Zelda game be gone forever?

Thanks in advance!

Go to settings, there you will see the "Nintendo Network settings" button.

In order to log out of his account and log in onto yours, you must format the system. It's confirmed that this is the only way.

The Zelda game will be most likely gone, yes. However, every game you purchase on your account will be from now on forever linked to said account, so if that Zelda 3DS dies, you can get your games back on a new one.

Oh wow... Thanks. I just texted the dude who sold me the 3DS for the Zelda code but he's not responding. Do you think Nintendo's support team will help me out?

Ummm sorry no that is not the case. Nintendo never said that your purchases would be tied to the account, they are still only tied to the hardware. So if a system dies you still either lose everything or try to get ahold of Nintendo and see if they will transfer your licenses to a new console.

ok i called Nintendo UK support cus i really enjoy my xl and i want to give the o.g. to a friend.
The guy said that you indeed need to format the system for my friend to have a nintendo id of his own.
Such a shame. on the Wii U i created like 5 different ones....uh nvm nintendo kinda stupid like this.
He also confirmed that you can get the games transformed into another machine by them. cost money tho.

How much does it cost to get them transferred?

Why did you create 5 NNIDs on the Wii U? Just curious. I have 2 of them because I screwed up the first one and didn't make it a USA account, so I couldn't use the eShop pre-paid cards on it.

Fair enough. I would try it myself on my second 3DS, but I don't wanna risk losing my save files on my main one (specially stuff like Animal Crossing and Phoenix Wright).

Exactly. I would try it myself, but I'm not risking anything. Nintendo should just let us know, in an official capacity!

Hi I have the same question really, I bought a second hand 3ds so I could play Animal Crossing and now I've been playing it a week I've realised it's still logging into everything as the previous owner. If I change the ID to mine now will it lose all my saved data for animal crossing?
