Default 3DS and SD Card?

Hello, just wanna ask a few questions:
What is the maximum GB of an SD card a 3ds can handle? Because I am planning to upgrade my 2gb sd card to a higher capacity.
Second, if I bought a new SD card , will my save data on my pre installed games be affected when i transfer the data in the old sd card to the new one? thanks.

Normally the max capacity is 32GB, but if you can reformat the SD card to FAT23, you can use even larger SD cards. One guy was able to use a 128GB SD card on his 3DS.

Transferring your files into the new SD card does not have any effect on your save files.

I would be careful about purchasing a 128gb SDHC card. There have been reports of side effects such as problems with save files.

Personally, I would be on the safe side and just purchase a 32gb SDHC card. I have a 8gb card in mine and I have yet to fill mine up (granted I just have a bunch of typical eshop games and not a full physical game in digital format).

You mean FAT32?
You should only need 16GB tops. Unless you download everything from Eshop and have tonnes of music on there, and you'd need a whole lot of music.

I have a 64 GB card. Simply formatted to FAT32 before using. No problems at all. The 32 gb limit is not a real but rather artificial limit. Someone posted the reason why, but i forgot. I am sure with enough googling you could find out. I know it has to do with the fact that 2gb-32 gb cards being SDHC and the larger cards (64GB +) being SDXC. Either way, works no problem.

64 GB is massive overkill, but I have not yet bought a lot of eshop games...

This kind of a card should be able to fit around 90 games like Zelda a link to the past on it, if i am doing the math right... Some games are larger though, so it will all depend what you put on there (several times in fact)...

Imo for most people 16GB -32 GB is more than enough.

Hope this helps.

All of my knowledge transfer to new sd card not influence. . The 3DS will support all SDHC cards, which go up to 32 GB. It does not support SDXC cards, which range from 64GB to 2TB because they come formatted with the exFAT file system, which the 3DS does not support.
