Just so all of you know, the 3DS does support SDXC capacity, it just doesn't support the exFAT filesystem because Microsoft has a patent for it.

No worries, it can still be formatted to FAT32. Use PartitionWizard or format it through the Command Prompt.

Anyway, is 64 or 128 GB worth the upgrade?

Idk how much games take up lol.

If you get games often, yes do get it. But games don't take up to much space (idk how blocks are compared to gbs are) like I got megaman 2 for 40 blocks.

Depends what you have now. Personally I'd say 32 GB is enough for 3DS unless you plan on going crazy all out digital.

I have quite a bit of digital games (Maybe 7 full retail + a lot of smaller games), and all the demos and other free things on my 16 GB and it still has a bit over 3 gigs left.

are you planning on going full digital?

if not no

those would still be overkill since 3ds games aren't that large outside of like 10 games

I definitely agree!
If you are going digital all the way then an upgrade would be neccessary
but 128gb i think is overly big! Games don't really take that much space.

And wouldn't the 3DS lag when loading the SD card with that size?

If you're upgrading, the maximum you'll need on a 3DS is 32GB. This is pretty much essential if you use the camera and sound app a lot. If you use the Eshop consistently, maybe consider it, but only if it starts to get full. Otherwise, keep the one that came with the device.
The thing is, save data just doesn't take up much space. That's because it only needs to remember a few things. Is the lever in this position or the other? If this position, add 0, if the other, add 1. Each individual "thing" in the game only takes up one character of space. Usually that just isn't very much. So for only cartridge games, maybe a few 3DS games or DsiWares (DsiWares take up very, very little space) it isn't worth it.
The main thing that takes up space is Extra Data. (unless you use the Eshop a lot for downloading really large titles) That said, you shouldn't delete it as some games rely on it. This is where files for games are stored that are like programs files, but at some point may need to change. This includes Nintendo Video's video files, a listing of StreetPass characters in the Mii Plaza etc. These are not save data, but they are essential for the game to work. However, at some point they may need to change, so they aren't technically program files, either.
Presently, my Extra Data adds up to 429 MB. But my Save Data for all my games adds up to only 2 and a half MB. And I have lots of games installed on my 3DS, and that takes up well less than 1/4 of the SD card that came with my 3DS.
(note: 1 block = ~128 KB)
