Unhappy Brand new 3ds and...

... its not working correctly!

Let me give you guys a little story. So my daughter and I both have a 3DS XL (in pink). We both enjoy playing games together, but a couple days ago, BOTH of our 3DS did something very odd that it has never done before.

For a while now, we both have been playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Well, we usually just close it - putting the 3DS in sleep mode. The next morning, BOTH of our systems would *not* come out of sleep mode.
This has never happened to us before. We looked on the forums, trying to find an answer, but all we could find is "call nintendo". Well, I did call Nintendo, and they had us send back my daughter's 3DS - as my 3DS is under a store warranty here.

Anyway, so I took back my 3DS to use my warranty, got it exchanged, brought home the new one. Turned it on, let it run the update... then closed it, putting it in sleep mode. 20 min later, I open it back up and it won't come out of sleep mode...again!

So I took the new one back to the store, exchanged it again today, brought home the new, NEW one, ran the updates (as it makes you do that I guess), closed it up after it was done. I just now got up and checked this new 3DS and now it too won't come out of sleep mode.

Does anyone know anything about this? This is the 4th 3DS in the past few days to do this. My daughter's 3DS - which has been recently sent to Nintendo for repairs, mine, which I exchanged for a new one, then the new one did it, now this one is doing it !

I don't understand what the heck is going on. We've never had issues before.

Now let me point out something else - We (hubby and myself) got my daughter a Wii U for Christmas. It's currently at Nintendo getting repaired as well. The Wii U will *not* play any games, says invalid disc.

We have been having issues with our router, not letting us connect wirelessly, we had to reset our router several times just so I could update the new 3DS. But why would a router have anything to do with a 3DS not coming out of sleep mode? A Wii U not reading discs?

Any help anyone can provide would be very helpful!

Thanks!

Are you using the same charger?

To dcv1979: Yes, the wifi on the 3ds is on.

To Fish: No, in order to use the warranty for my 3ds at gamestop, everything has to be returned. So the chargers all got exchanged.

Has it ever happened before with your 3DS?

No. As I said in my first post, this is the 4th 3DS now that has done this.

First, both of my 3DS XL (my daughters and mine), I sent hers off to get fixed. I took mine back to the store. I exchanged mine, brought it home. 30 min later, the it would not come back out of sleep mode. I took that one back, got another new one, now its doing the same thing.

I'm at a loss.

edit:

First 3DS:
My daughter's 3DS was actually newer than mine. We got it off craigslist for a good price (in other words, too good to pass up).

Second 3DS:
My 3DS (first one), I've had for about a year.

Third 3DS:
Took mine back to the store, got replacement (used extended warranty). Same issue, not coming out of sleep mode.

Fourth 3DS:
Took the new one (3rd 3ds) back. Now same issue - just got this one yesterday to replace previous 2.

It's actually a fairly common occurrence, or at least it was. It happened a lot more frequently in the early days of the 3DS but still happens now and then. You seem to have had some bad luck.

It's not a huge problem though, and not worth exchanging your 3DS for a new one. Holding the power button down for ten seconds will allow you to restart the 3DS.

Thing is though, it sucks because I lose all the info on the game I'm playing. I guess it's not that bad, just really an inconvenience.

I guess I'm just a bit irritated. It's happened to 4 3DS XLs here. And, our brand new Wii U is crapped out as well.

Always save before you stop playing. It's a lesson we've all learned at some point.

This has to be the worst luck I have ever seen. This has never happened to me, 3DS or Wii U.

It's happened once with my 3DS, in its early days. I still have the very same Cosmo Black 3DS and it's never happened before, in fact it has no issues at all, except that the right border of the touch screen leaves a mark on the top screen, at least I'm one of the lucky ones It's not a permanent mark

Update: I turned off the wireless on the new system. So now when I open it, it comes right out of sleep mode.

My husband and I think it could possibly be our wireless router that is the culprit. Although, I'm unsure how, but it seems like the 3DS was having issues communicating to the internet on the router. So I guess the 3DS is in constant communication, so when it was trying to communicate in sleep mode, it was screwing it up somehow and causing it to not come out of sleep.

I know it doesn't really make sense, but since I've turned off my wireless on the 3DS, I haven't had any issues.

that is the reason why ive asked you about the wifi being turned ON when this weird thing happens. try to reset your router and reconnect your unit. if it still persists, try deleting your 3DS' connection to your router then set it up again. just to make the connection fresh again.

i hope this helps

We did reset the router and I did delete the connection. The 3DS had problems connecting to the internet after I did this. So now I think it's my router. I guess they can burn out and cause problems.

I had never heard about any problem like this. The fact that it happened to four different units in a row means you either have the worst luck in the universe, or it is indeed some problem unrelated to the 3DS units themselves, but outside factors.

I didn't know a router could cause something like this. I'll go to bed smarter than yesterday.

No. It simply never came out of sleep mode. My wireless on the 3DS has been off the past 2 days since posting and it always comes out of sleep mode now.

We already ordered a new router from amazon.com. I'll post an update when the new router gets here. Should be in a day or 3.

4 3DS XL's, a Wii U, and a router all going bad at around the same time surpasses the "coincidence" marker by about a mile. You may want to make sure there isn't something going wrong with electricity in the house. A bad EM field or maybe a new appliance that you purchased around the same time your issues started is where I might start looking if I were having these problems.

We did purchase a new washer and dryer last month. Our washer crapped out. We are just not having ANY luck in this household. This stuff just started happening.

Forgive me, but what is an EM field and how do you fix it?

Em field = Electromagnetic field
Clearly there's something in your house making interference with your 3DS, making it act all wonky. I recall u saying that your wiiU has a problem as well. How to fix it though? I have no idea. If it's the router making the problem, change it.

We did order a new router. It should be here in a couple days. The only new thing we added to the house was a new washer and dryer. Our Wii U stopped reading discs. Every disc we put in, it said invalid disc.
