Default What would make the circle pad get stuck?

I've heard that if the 3DS circle pad gets stuck, you have to send it repaired. I want to know what would make the pad get stuck? is it because of too much movement of the pad that causes it to break or is it because of putting materials in it that causes this?

I don't think moving the pad too much will get it stuck, if anything it would be loosened. But I've had a regular 3DS since it's launch and it still works fine, and nothing wrong with my new XL. I'd say the only way the pad would get stuck is if you stuck something in there, or if the console was faulty (which would be apparent the minute you started using the 3DS).

I've never heard of a Circle Pad getting stuck from extensive use alone. It's possible it could get a little looser and perhaps it might not snap back to its default position after many years of use, but I don't think it's something to worry about. The Circle Pad is fairly well-made and I'm honestly more worried about my L/R buttons giving out before the Circle Pad does!

As Firejonie mentioned, it could be caused by something simply being trapped under the Circle Pad. Something similar would happen to my PSP back in the day, but moving the pad around and blowing into the opening would normally be enough to dislodge whatever was stuck inside. Though those cans of air worked even better!

This is the dfirst time I ever heard about a CP getting stuck.
ButbSince I've openend my 3DS to replace the CP with the nob of a CPP I can see it happening.
The CP is an analog XY slide switch. So there is little room where dirt can get to. However, between the switch and the nob are two layers of nylon/teflon(?) to make it slide smooth and a dust cover sealing the unit from outside. So honestly I don't see it happening anytime soon.

One thing that will definately make it stick are sugary fluids like cola. So no spiling please ^_^
