Default The game that changed your gaming life?

So guys and gals, we're all gamers here, we've all had our share of great games and terrible games we won't ever mention again.

What do you consider the game that changed your life (for better or for worse)? Was it the amazing world of Mario 64 or was it the utter disaster that was Superman 64? Did you love Ghosts N' Goblins or did it make you wallow in despair?

For me, I'd have to say Megaman X was my game changer. The mobility of X, the music, Zero, the Hadouken and the boss fights. Everything about MM X was just amazing, I couldn't believe how much had changed for Megaman in just one game. I still play it regularly to this day!

That's definitely Ocarina of Time for me.

I love all these new thread. Kinda makes the forum seem more active.

And pokemon changed more than just my gamer life, but life in general

I don't have any games like this, unfortunately. I feel my "gaming life" so to speak, has remained constant... for the most part.

Your question seems to be asking something else though I'm not sure of...

In any case, A Link to the Past was my first Zelda game, and that game alone, helped spark interest in trying the other Zelda games.

Pokemon helped introduce me to forums, where I continue to discuss video games on occasion.

Elite Beat Agents (thanks SRT).

It resparked my interest in rhythm games and now I can't get enough of them.

Metroid prime, it was my first metroid game and got me into the franchise that I now love except one....well two games basically. I pretty much remember my whole first playthrough. I guess all blue as an obvious answer, it was my first game that I played all the way through on my own and when I first could really understand....things I guess.

Here I was, all ready to sing the praises of Secret of Mana and then I read this. Prime is without a doubt a masterpiece in gaming - the Gamecube's Ocarina of Time AND Super Mario 64. It trumps OoT for me as the greatest game on a Nintendo console, even with OoT holding the nostalgia perk.

I think Secret of Mana is my childhood and Prime is my adolescence.

Well i did play games before this but Pokemon really got me interested into handheld gaming.

I would have to say Ocarina of time and Majoras mask were game changers for that gen. Then Kingdom Hearts was a big game changer for me when that came out.

Pokemon Silver. My first Pokemon game. Got me into RPGs, my favorite genre.

I'd say Call of Duty 2. I was never a competitive gamer until I played that over a LAN for the first time. Now I really love competitive experiences in the games that I play.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time on GameCube. I've played plenty of games before then, but I think that was the game that most made me want to get more into gaming and experience different things. I guess I was a bit of a late bloomer when it came to gaming and I was terrible at games before then, so I wasn't really able to play the early Legend of Zeldas, Final Fantasy-s, and any other more complicated titles beforehand.

Well, to be honest, what changed my gaming life wasn't really a game but rather learning English at a respectable level, that was around when I was 13. I could finally understand and write English fairly well. I played games before that but nothing text heavy, mostly shooters, racers, sidescrollers and stuff like that. No RPGs or strategy, and those are now two of my favorite genres.

Now if we are talking about games, I would say that the only game that really had an impact on me would be Age of Empires, my first ever gaming experience. After that I knew I loved them and right now I believe that the end of my gaming days won't be anytime soon, if at all.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time... 3D

It's amazing to think that THAT was my first Zelda game, but ever since then I have developed a passion for the series. It was the game that made me move away from Mario and more towards Zelda for my favourite game series of all time... and it only came out a little over 2 years ago!

There was alot of hype for this game

Konami had to pre-sell (I think it was 20k) copies before they would even print it. I was big into DDR then and noticed all my favorite songs came from this 'beatmania iidx' game, so I took the plunge and imported a controller and 7th style. With my 12 years of piano the gameplay made perfect sense to me, and got me curious about all these other Bemani games. Needless to say I caught some sort of 'gotta catch 'em all' fever because within a year I was all caught up with every controller and mix available on ps1 and ps2.

Now I'm getting close to 150 mixes.

I could also say SMB3, my mom got it for me on the day it came out, right after my dad died. Playing it sure made me feel better, but I kinda hate its popularity nowadays

Super Smash Bros Brawl

Before this game I had mostly been a non gamer, using pc and the like.

However once I played this, my habits changed forever (Interestingly on what some call the worst game of the series.)
From this game I would branch out into other series. T'was the beginning of many good things.
Probably my most played console game at around 1000+ hours

The holy trinity: Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and GoldenEye 007.

Super Mario World (the GBA port to be exact) and Smash Bros Melee were the games that really got me into gaming. Especially Melee, since it introduced me to a whole bunch of franchises.

Like a lot of people in this thread, Pokemon also changed my gaming life. My first pokemon game was Gold. I had played my brother's Red version and was super jealous he got a gameboy and pokemon. So when GBC came out and Gold version was available, I got it for Christmas and was super happy. I didn't have any games at that age. I mostly played with action figures and drew in notebooks. But Gold changed my life. It was an extremely fun game and I got really attached to my pokemon. To this day Totodile and Feraligatr have a close spot in my heart due to how much I loved them. It was an experience that I can never experience again. Even though now my favorite game is Sapphire, Gold version will always be the one that started it all for me.
